Xbox 360 price drop in Early August - Confirmations Inside!

CAG reported earlier that a Wal-Mart AND Toys R US ads shows the Premium 360 at $349. This is rumored to start August 8th. According to a few employees, the Core and Premium will drop $50 and the Elite will drop $80, however we have not seen any evidence of this happening.

The Elite for $399 is not bad at all, but I still won't buy one until there is a major hardware update to deal with all the heat issues. Hopefully by the fall they have at least the cooler chips in there.

Aren't all models sold from now on "supposed" to be fixed?

Liver&Onions 07-29-07 01:48 AM

where's the TRU one?

From a manufacturing standpoint, yes. No guarantees that the one you grab off the shelf hasn't been sitting there for 6 months though.

I am very unclear on even what the fix is. It if is just smearing the board with epoxy so the chips don't pop off that is not going to win me over as a consumer. I'm hoping it is also the extra heat sync some have found after getting a system back from repair.

Heat wasn't really the problem. The root of the problem was the X-Clamp that holds the heatsinks down.

Agreed, if someone is really concerned about this it would probably be better to wait a little while after the drop and then pick up one. BTW is there any way to tell on the box itself the manufacture date? I haven't really looked at the box yet to know...

The manufacture date is on the serial number label.

Seconded. I love a $400 Elite, but I'm not touching a 360 until the 65nm models are out.

I think there are people who would be interested in a price drop, but who aren't reading the Xbox 360 thread (which is very hard to trudge through).

How come this isn't in any of the ads speedy1961 posts?

They are supposedly for the week of August 12th?... which he hasn't posted yet.

Groucho 07-29-07 09:53 AM

Ah ha. OP says August 8.

Yeah... the mod (of all people -poke- ) started it off as another repair thread..... Then there was a little game talk, then it went to the price drop.

No 360, so I don't read the 360 thread very often. I appreciate the separate threads regarding price drops and other hardware issues.

That's a Wednesday--could be a mid-week ad Wal-Mart's running.

EDIT: I bet it is a mid-week ad, with Wal-Mart gearing up for all the back-to-school sales and stuff next month.

Music 07-29-07 10:16 AM

Yep, they should probably merge the posts in the 360 thread into this thread.

That is what my clean up on aisle 7 comment was for.

Actually no. I started it as the official 360 thread. Since I had nothing to post, I put in my repair status.

My bad... normally you summarize the previous thread....

But the thread did start out as a repair discussion... I was just poking fun at ya... .... I'll undo my jinx on you now.....

Gizmo 07-29-07 12:35 PM

I felt this needed a new thread as the price drop is 2 weeks away and not everyone visits the 360 thread.

edstein 07-29-07 01:21 PM

How will these price drops effect the Halo version?

Th0r S1mpson 07-29-07 01:24 PM

...and is it a safe bet that the Halo version WOULD be the "fixed" version?

I ask because I am planning on getting a 360 whenever Halo 3 ships and not before, but I want to ensure I get the newer models of course.

You sure spend a lot of time in xbox 360 threads for someone that doesn't want one. :)

I'll be picking up two in September for my brother and I to play Halo 3 on live, so it looks like this price drop might save me $100. I'll probably check out the bundles at Costco at the time to see what extras they throw in. I don't really want the Halo console but would get it if I was guaranteed some sort of updated hardware vs. whatever else is out there. Are there any other packages out there that end up better than buying things individually? I don't think I need HDMI or 120GB of storage so I'm not sure if the Elite is something I should consider or not.
