So I guess Harry Lime is only allowed to post Bad News items for the 360?

Is he the official Video Game 360 Bad News member?

It almost seems fanboyish....

July 10 - 12 - Coffin arrived (I forget when)
July 16 - Console arrived for repair
July 26 - Console ships (now I wait)

A month isn't bad. That's how long it's taken me both times.

Mine arrived in Texas on the same day - but the only line I've gotten out of xbox customer service is "wait another 1-2 weeks"

DJ, maybe you did get expedited service.

According to UPS my 360 was received on July 6th. I received it (well, a refurb) back yesterday, July 26th. So it took 20 calender days compared to your 10 calender days.

I got a free month of live, for what that is worth.

My 360 had stickers on the IR window and DVD drive. Is that usual when getting a refurb? Manufacture date was 11/7/2006.

Hopefully I got one that was actually fixed and won't break again in a few months.

When I had mine repaired in 10/2006, it took 13 days.

13 days from the day you called? It took one week to get the coffin. One week for repair and another to get it back.

When I called, the woman told me they were no longer shipping coffins. So I went that day and shipped it via 2 day shipping (FedEx). They had it for three business days, then shipped me a refurb.

Were you refunded for shipping?

I actually have a spare coffin just in case.

No, they said they would "take care of me" since it was my third time, but the lady said they do NOT do that. So, I guess that is normal. Maybe it depends if they fix it or just give you a refurb.

Nope. Never refunded. Though I never asked, to be honest. Pretty stupid, looking back now.

What do you mean, they're no longer shipping coffins? How are you supposed to send your faulty unit back?

This issue is so upsetting to me, even though mine hasn't had a problem so far *knocks wooden desk*, but my best friend who got his the same time as me had his die. If they're acknowledging that this is such a huge problem and by looking at this forum, it clearly is, then they should be working harder to make it right.

I read that people who get a refrub are having trouble playing the XBLA games they paid for. From what I understand now they can only play while signed into Live or something. That really doesn't seem right since it's entirely MS' fault that they don't have their original unit. I love the 360 and would love to cut them some slack, but they don't deserve any. I feel so bad for all of you who are being put through this inconvenience and expense (like abrg above paying for his shipping). That ain't right.

Check out the thread for the rumored price drop. That might help decide your timing.

Otherwise, if he is interested in the games on the 360 then it should be an easy purchase. Technical difficulties aside it is a great system. Frustrating as hell with some of the breakdowns but it is just incredible otherwise. Pixyjunket had a big thread on deciding between a 360 and a PS3 that had some good info in the thing. Also, the fact that Pixy has been happy with a 360 (which is something a year ago i would have laughed at anyone who would have told me that would happen) should be a pretty good sign.

I assume you guys have broadband so he could get on Live to play games?

Okaaayyy.....
I still don't understand. Are they not sending HIM any more coffins? Have they changed their policy and are no longer sending them to anyone? Is this a temporary thing because they're out of them at the moment? How does his 10/06 repair figure into the above post at all?

I don't see this issue as "fundamental" as you do, apparently.

I was told that my box would arrive shortly, so it would seem that, yes, they are still sending out the coffins.

Honestly, though, a month (or more) without the system sucks.

Sorry, what I meant was, that when he was told they weren't shipping coffins anymore, that was October of last year, and not something that has happened recently. (and it is the only incident I had heard of this btw)

They are still sending out coffins, although there have been recent reports that they had run out of coffins and were waiting for more.... absurd.. yes.

Seriously no offense intended, my apologies if you were.

To me a RIF is a reduction in force - and I figured you weren't allowed to fire him.

Wait - so I have to send back my coffin again when they return my unit? WTF?

That would be hilarious. A little note enclosed with your refurb with a new label to ship the empty coffin back to MS.

my 360 ate my copy of gears......again.

it left a ring about 3mm wide the entire way around. it wouldn't even get past the opening credits.

I buffed it for about 6 minutes with a microfiber cloth and got it to work. I'm going to talk to my manager-friend this week to see if he has a brand new one in stock and swap them out
