That's your problem. It was lonely and now it's punishing you!

Seriously though, my experience wasn't that bad. It took just a little over two weeks to get mine back and I got the same box (which meant not having to worry about DRM issues).

 well it's going to get a lot of attention at the grave yard.

Good to know that people are getting their boxes back in less than 3 weeks - and they are getting the same one back.

Got the replacement 360 today and it only took a week, so not too bad, I guess living only a few hours from the repair center help. ;)

It's a different box then the one I sent in, so now I get to start my pointless calling about a DRM transfer ( :brickwl: ), but at least it looks like it's an actual new unit instead of a refurb (manufactured on 2-22-8).

I got a refurb back on my last repair, and I didn't have any issue at all with my saved/purchased stuff. I just plunked the old hard drive back in and everything was fine.

While you're on Live. If your internet goes down, or Live is down you're pretty much SOL because all your DLC is connected to your old box, which Microsoft has now. I just tested it w/o being connected to Live, and all my XBLA stuff will only let me play trial versions.

Considering the amount of people that no longer have their original box due to hardware failure, you'd think they'd come up with a better system.

Ah - I see what you mean. I guess I've never really been offline while gaming at all.

tonyc3742 04-04-08 06:39 PM

Sent mine off Wednesday. Still not even halfway there, but that's UPS.

I swear I read somewhere, some gaming blog, that you can download your content on the new console and it's "yours", you don't have to go through the beg/plead/demand thing? I'm sorry I don't have a link, and come to think of it it might have been on the 1st when I read that.

I'm not saying that it hasn't happened that way for some, but from my own
personal experience, over 30 days later after being told it takes "upwards"
of 30 days I'm still in the process of trying to get MS to authorize the
license transfer for my DLC so I can play the full versions without having
to be online (or my wife play them on her silver account at all).

See I wondered about that, but I had heard that didn't work from people that had their console switched, in fact they spoke about it on the most recent 1up podcast. But I just checked xbox.com and apparently you can do this. Link to Xbox.com I'll test it out once Live is back to letting people d/l stuff again.

Well hell, I hadn't even considered that. We have two gold accounts, one for myself and one for my wife, but everything we've ever purchased off the marketplace has been under mine.

ultimaton 04-05-08 04:20 AM

Well, surprise, fucking surprise it doesn't work.

And now I'm fucking _furious_ at the fact that my wife can't use ANY of the DLC on our machine on her account because it was all downloaded under my name. If I didn't have so much money sunk into this pos machine already, I'd just kick it to the gd curb.

Did you delete the content off your hard drive before redownloading it? If you didn't, then it doesn't actually redownload the game. I believe this step is left off of their page.

xmiyux 04-05-08 08:18 AM

Did you try deleting and redownloading one of the items to see if that fixes the issue?

ultimaton 04-05-08 10:06 AM

Yeah I did, didn't help. Called support, and they pretty much acknowledged that the method described in the link on xbox.com is hit or miss. Supposedly in 15-30 days it'll be fixed but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Brooklyn 04-05-08 01:22 PM

That method only works if MS has transferred your DLC license over to your refurb's
info prior to shipping it back to you (or after you call and have them do so). They'll tell
you it's hit or miss as doing otherwise draws attention to their incompetence. ie; that
every refurb shipped should have this info transferred prior to shipping it back to the
customer.

ultimaton 04-05-08 06:07 PM

Yeah, I was trying to be nice and avoided asking the woman I spoke to if it had ever hit, for anybody.

In any case Brooklyn, someone on another forum gave me a temporary solution to my wife's problem that is straight out of the "why didn't I think of that" file and might help your wife access her games on her account. You'll need 2 controllers and still have to be on Live, but hopefully she should be able to start playing again.

First log your wife onto her account on the controller she'll be using, then on the second controller log onto the account that had previously purchased the DLC. You'll still have to be connected to Live, but that should trick the Xbox into thinking the purchaser account is using the content and will allow your wife to play on her silver. Not ideal, but at least it's something.

Brooklyn 04-05-08 07:40 PM

Our main problem is her being able to use them offline , but thanks for the suggestion.
I'll let her know to try that if she gets the shakes too bad and needs her fix :)

A call to MS today to check on the status revealed that the CS rep didn't forward
the request for two weeks (how that is even possible is beyond me. What'd he have
the note in his pocket, went home with it, then found it after doing the next load of
wash???), so I still have a week + until the 30 day period is up according to them.

It does take at least 30 days. I had totally forgotten that I requested this but about 3 weeks ago I had a voicemail from MS telling me everything was transferred and to redownload from download history. It took way to long for something you would think is easy, but it does work and I can play offline and my wife can also play on her account. They even gave me a follow-up call to make sure it worked.

It took me five and a half months to get mine fixed.

vedderone 04-07-08 11:46 AM

I got the red ring over a month ago. called and requested a coffin. waited 2 weeks and no box had to call again same thing 2 weeks no box. called a third time and finally received a box they received it the 3rd and sent another refurb out the 4th. quick turn around

boobietheclown 04-07-08 12:59 PM

Is there a known issue with disc eject tray not working AND if so...is it covered by the extended 3 yr warranty???

Thanks!

xmiyux 04-07-08 01:01 PM

The 3 year extended warranty only covered the red ring.

Had i not bought the extended warranty myself i would have been screwed when my original unit stopped reading discs. It didn't red ring.

I sent mine in (the video problem) last week. According to UPS, it should have gotten there today.
The Xbox support site, where it previously had my serial number, now says
"You have no registered devices."
should I be worried? or do they deregister the unit when they receive it? Or does this just mean they're swapping my unit out?

That's exactly what happened to me the last time I sent mine in. No need to panic.
