Mine died a couple days back from the E-74 error. I've got to pay $109 since it's out of the one year warranty by one month and wasn't a RROD. I really want my original console back though, due to problems I've heard about DRM on the DLC. I've got about 20 Live games and a huge amount of DLC, and sometimes the internet just doesn't get paid in time. :-) Can I get my old one back and would it take longer?

My 360 just bit the dust with the RROD. Thought I dodged the bullet since I got mine back in Dec. '05 and gave it heavy usage without a peep until I went to turn it on tonight
. Over to the PS3 for now.

Just got a new unit today from Fedex ground. It has build date of January 2008 but does not have HDMI. So far so good. My original unit I purchased in April of 2006 RROD about a month ago. My first refurb was build in mid 2006 and the remote sensor did not work. I was surprised my new unit does not have HDMI. Fedex ground tried my house today at 3:30 and came back a second time at 5:30. That was a nice surprise.

As of yesterday, I am now officially on my fourth 360 within roughly 18 months. With this rotation cycle, I am practically guaranteed a lifetime warranty!

Xbox 360 red ring of death repair kit from Team Xecuter
Written by Nicholas Deleon February 14th, 2008
Team Xecuter, whose X2 Pro modchip I used on my Xbox1 back in the day, appears to have developed a kit that fixes red ring of death-affected Xbox 360s. The kit, which costs $12.95, includes all the necessary Torx screws to open your console. The kit was developed by an Xecuter member whose 360 rrod’d on him recently. Rather than send it in to Microsoft to be repaired, he tinkered with it, trying to figure out what went wrong.
The kit is said to have worked on 18 of 18 broken 360s.
If the kit works as advertised—it’s due for release “soon”—it would represent a better alternative to sending in your 360 to Microsoft. We all know how well that can sometimes go. At least it’s not a widespread problem or anything…

So I just gotmy 2nd RROD, but this is the fist one I have to send in to MS for repair (The other being under Gamestop warranty.)
Do I call the number 1-800-4MY-XBOX, or is there an online service site I can use directly?
OTOH, I guess it is a good excuse to do some thesis work before GTA comes out.

My 1st RRoD occurred early Wednesday morning. I had an ok run of 14 months (Dec. '06 - Feb. '08).
I quickly submitted my repair order and it's now been a full 3 business days with no movement on the box shipment, AFAIK. I didn't even get an e-mail confirmation although I know the order has gone thru as I see it listed on the site. I'm patiently waiting for the box and I know today is a holiday for USPS (maybe UPS as well). What is the average wait time?

It took me three months to get my box in and have another shitty box that died again returned to me. After that is was another two and a half months. Good luck to anyone with boxes out there right now. Even more so, good luck navigating the piece of shit 18004myxbox menu system, listening to shitty elevator techno music for an hour, and finally talking to ickmehd abla jabar trying to convey the problem with the xbox while he insist on running you through the standard trouble shooting procedure and not actually listening to what your telling him.

I definitely have one of the newer versions. I didn't even know that the HDMI port was not on the originals - that sucks.....for a lot of people.
All I can say is that I played Bioshock for about a week non-stop hours at a time and my xbox was barely warm to the touch when I was done. Hopefully I won't be having any problems. I really love this system and just started getting things ready for Xbox Live - just need to pick up the wireless adapter and I'm all set.

Got a shock at the UPS drop-off center. I walk in just after they open and
I'm not 2 feet inside when someone comes over and says, "those go over here".
I start to tell her what it is so they're aware it's kind of heavy but she cuts in
with, "I know, it's an Xbox"
I asked how many they saw, thinking it's gotto be a decent amount for them to have known so quickly, and she says
15 to 20 a day. Holy crap. There are 3 drop-offs in the town I went to (suburb
of Boston about 10 miles out) and just 1 of them gets that many? That's nuts.
She also added that even as high as that seems, it's slowed from a year ago
when they had upwards of 2 to 3 times as many. ...I thought I knew, but I
had no idea o_0

Funny I had the same thing happen to me at the UPS drop-off center I dropped my 360 at.
The clerk looked at the box before I could say anything and said How long have you had it? I didn't know what he meant at the the moment and then he said the 360. I knew then that they must be getting a lot in.

Red Ring of Death strikes GDC machine
Phil Elliott 09:18 (BST) 19/02/2008
Demo Xbox 360 dies from the infamous three red lights
One of Microsoft's demonstration Xbox 360 consoles has succumbed, rather publicly, to the infamous 'Red Ring of Death' in the company's XNA area at the Game Developers Conference.

The machine, videoed by BBC technology editor Darren Waters, has clearly developed problems the outcome of which will be familiar to a large number of owners of the console - three red lights surrounding the unit's power button.
Writing on the BBC's tech blog dot.life Waters references the hardware failure problem which could cost Microsoft up to USD 1 billion to deal with.
"Microsoft wants consumers to believe that its problems with the Xbox 360 console in terms of hardware failure are over. But wandering through the Game Developers Conference halls and it's clear that the problem persists," he says.
"On Microsoft's own stand at the show one of the demo consoles has a rather familiar problem - the red ring of death. There's no way of knowing if this particular console was manufactured before or after Microsoft identified the problems with the machines.
"But at the very least it's embarrassing for the company that its own stock of demo machines is still susceptible to the problem."

That's a bit different from my RRoD. I got all but the upper right quadrant flashing red.
Just got back from the UPS drop-off location. I got my empty box yesterday afternoon.

Even if they can't tell from an HDMI input, I doubt they'd have a unit that doesn't have a manufacture date, or one of the new power-source indicators to tell if it's a Falcon - or even if Falcons are susceptible to RRODs. They probably want to keep mum, so as to not get people riled up and ignore the non-Falcons on the market or whatever.

It is probably similarly setup like kiosks where you can't see behind it.

That's the exact same one I got too. Went to hit up some COD4 and got the RRoD. Just sent away for the coffin online a few min. ago. Had mine for a while so I guess I thought I had just gotten lucky.
