Who's getting The Darkness next week??
Starbreeze will release their follow up to the spectacular Chronicles of Riddick next week -- The Darkness. I am definitely picking this game up on day one. The graphics are fantastic and the gameplay looks fun as hell. This game is also not for the faint of heart -- it has some pretty bloody carnage from the vids i have watched.

I might think about it, but I think Shadowrun looks a bit more appealing to me right now

it just depends on what you are looking for "good multiplayer" or "good single player". I prefer a great single player over multiplayer any day. thats just me though |
it definitely goes a long way. Problem with me is, I'll fly through 1p mode in like 3 days, and never touch the game again unless it has decent multiplayer
|
I might, but I want to try a demo first.
|
I'm gonna wait for some reviews to come in first, but if it's half as good as Riddick was, I'll be getting it.

i completely understand. i tend to play a single player campaign several times if the game is good. i have played video games for close to 27 years, and my fondest memories have came from a great single player game. Multiplayer is fun too, but just doesn't have the emotional impact that a great single player based game can have. wlj |
yea, the appeal of live has diminished for me, and I have gotten into playing games for the campaign mode, etc.
problem is, i rarely feel the need to re-play again, especially considering how many games I have yet to play, or even beat for that matter |

I think there are few people picking it up based on the fact that there are now four threads for it including this one.
the Darkness Discussion 1 the Darkness Discussion 2 the Darkness Discussion 3 |

the Darkness Discussion 1 the Darkness Discussion 2 the Darkness Discussion 3 yah, but this thread asks who is getting it NEXT WEEK :horsepoo: :D |
If the reviews are good I'll get it eventually. I have some backlog I need to take care of first.
|
I am getting this for sure! It looks so sweet. The multiplayer looks incredible too...so it isn't just the regular campaign. I know i won't get bored. It looks awesome. The powers, the darklings -- it all looks soo cool. Can't wait til Monday!

somebody, convince me I need to get this game
GO! |
It's the guys that did Riddick. Nuff said. :)
|
I never played Riddick

Got mine pre-ordered and paid off.

I never played Riddick, but heard it was really good. I watched the trailer for The Darkness, and the graphics seemed below par. Maybe it was an old trailer?

sequel?
or are they making it BC? |
Re-imagining. Sorta like the original Resident Evil for the 'cube but not quite on that scale. They are bumping the graphics for HD, not redoing them. So it will look better than the original but not quite up to par with current-gen. They are also adding a handful of new levels and a multiplayer mode which the original lacked.
|
will this be a budget title for the 360?
|
Price is undetermined so far. I think it will fail unless it is a budget title, especially since it isn't being completely reworked like Ninja Gaiden.

Here is an update on a Demo, coming in July for the game. From The Darkness Myspace page: :
To my Brotherhood, Here's the story with the demo: As I've said before, the game will ALWAYS take precedence and priority over a demo. That means that if the game is falling in behind in something or something isn't working right and needs fixing the people working on the demo will be pulled and made to work on the game. Making a demo is like making an entirely new game. I know you might think, "but if they have a finished level can't that be the demo?" It's not that easy. Demos need to pass a different set of criteria set by MSFT if it's for the Xbox 360 and Sony if it's for the PS3 than the full game. Otherwise we can't release it. The full game has to pass the criteria too in order to pass or "go gold", but those things (called "TCRs" for MSFT and "TRCs" for Sony) are usually worked on at the end once all the game stuff is finished. Also, keep in mind the demo has to be as polished and indicative of the final product as possible. If the demo sucks then all of you will think the full game sucks. Moreover, the demo has to play differently so you can get a feel of the overall game and want to play more. I know there are some games like God of War and God of War II that took the first level and they were awesome. But those first levels also gave you that overall feel for the entire game. A single level won't necessarily do that for all games because maybe you wont have enough powers or the level only makes sense and plays well because of the preceding and succeeding levels. Now, for all the doubters and non-believers in our midst, your purported reasons for why the demo is delayed are laughable at best. Woe be to you who've written that we are "afraid" to post a demo on Xbox Live because of the competition from all the other demos on there. Or those who thought we are intentionally delaying the demo because you think the game is overhyped and that the demo will show how allegedly bad it really is. When the reviews hit next week you will be lucky if I let you polish my shoes with your tongues. We get the review scores early so I know what they are already. You'll have to wait until then before everyone has self-posted evidence of how big a fools you all are. Your naivete aside, I will tell you exactly why the demo is late. We hit a few snags of the full game and were at risk of being late and missing the release date by a week or two. So we pulled people off the demo to work on the game and now we are on time for release of 6/26 (it SHIPS on 6/25 but will be IN STORE on 6/26). It's axiomatic. I was told we will be submitting the demo this week for approval. We will have to wait about 2 more weeks to get approval (hopefully) and then post it on XLM and PSN. As always, if you have any questions you know how to contact me. ~Lord Sonatine |
Well, snap, 1up gives it a 9/10.
That ain't too bad - now if the scores all hover around there, I might very well pick this sucker up. Oh, and Circuit City's gonna have it for $49. http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/3...2307ru8.th.jpg |
Riddick was an amazing game, I have high hopes for this one. And I believe in a thing called love.
|
I will be buying The Darkness next week. I heard it has really good multiplayer as well as the single player campaign. In MP, you can wield the darkness at other people. It might be similar to F.E.A.R. and it's slo-mo multiplayer.
|
I will be buying it based on my love for Riddick... that and because of this quote:
When the reviews hit next week you will be lucky if I let you polish my shoes with your tongues. |
Man, I love the PS3.
Being in Europe I'd have to wait until July 22nd, but with games being multi-region I'm getting it from America when it's released tomorrow :) |
IGN UK gave the 360 version an 8.5
1UP gave the 360 and PS3 versions a 9.0 Play UK gave the PS3 version a 91 With this kind of setup, you may be expecting a full-on shooter, and while that description isn't terribly inaccurate, The Darkness features more downtime than you might expect. Moments like taking the time to sit on a couch and snuggle with your girlfriend and visiting your aunt remind me more of something like Indigo Prophecy than anything you normally see in shooters, and the open city requires you to spend a decent amount of time traveling through different parts of town using the subway system. Like Riddick, the main story here won't take you long to get through (it's in the 10-hour range), but because of the game structure, you can spend time getting lost and messing around in the wrong parts of town if you choose. There's not a ton to do besides receiving "track this item down" missions from characters in subway stations and using your tentacles to pick up objects and mess with the game's physics -- this isn't the easiest thing to do if you're the type who likes to stack objects in piles and then use those to climb to secret areas, but it works and occasionally rewards you with bonus collectibles. But the feeling of running around town works pretty well, and you really get to know this version of New York by the end of the game. |
wow. awesome reviews! this is cool. i cant wait to grab this game tomorrow. maybe i should call in sick to work so i can play all day. hahah...i feel like i have been waiting a while for this. cant wait to play.
|
Now, do I get this on 360 or PS3? I guess PS3 since I have one game for it and 10 on 360...
|
Two reasons I'm getting the 360 version: Multiplayer and achievements. I know way more people with 360's than I do with PS3's, so the multiplayer is a no brainer if I want to play with my friends. And achievements speak for themselves.

IGN put a stop to the hype, giving it a 7.8 (US Site).

Plus rumble feature and a better controller....and probably better gfx/loading since it was built for the 360 |

Contrary to popular belief. A 7.8 is not a bad score. It's actually a very good score......... |
