You don't have many of the large map files that the 360 does. You don't have all the down-loadable video content. Sure, Warhawk is a big game file, but besides that, what could be taking up much space? Unless you want to put a large amount of your digital music files on the system, or want to have all the available demos on the HD at all time, I can't imagine ever needing more than 40.
But realistically, I think the space will fill up in the future. But I guess that's been the response for almost anything PS3 related for a year now :) |
A lot of games require data to be installed on the HD for cache, this can quickly add up.

Has anyone here come close to filling a 60 GB HD? I had read about a tivo-type functionality that easily could fill a HD, but for now, I'm at a loss as to what to do with all that space. Maybe if I used my PS3 to play games on..... Nah, that's just crazy talk. |
They don't have PSN cards like Xbox Live points card and Wii point cards, do they?
|
i have final fantasy xi installed (~20gb) and a bunch of demos/HD movie trailers and i have to clear room off my 60gb from time to time.

Calling all Cars on sale for $4.99 until the 25th.
Great game, excellent deal. I'm waiting on a similar deal before I buy Everyday Shooter. |
I just noticed the $160 price drop on the PS3 at Future Shop here today.Ive held off on buying a 360 although ive been close but this throws a possible monkey wrench into that.

^ It's almost as convoluted as the 360 and Wii. They use real dollars, but you have to fill your "Sony" account with dollars before you can buy something.
So essentially you have Calling all Cars for $5. You can't just input your CC info and pay $5. You have to advance $5 from your CC to your Sony account and then pay $5 for the game. You could put more than $5 in your Sony account for next time, just like MS or Wii points. |
Soooos
Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction - Shipping early We have just confirmed with SCEA that Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction will be shipping early. Originally scheduled for an October 23rd date, the game was recently pushed back to October 30th. But after seeing a few retail outlets with newly updated October 23rd release dates we contacted our friendly SCEA representative. And it is indeed true, the game is shipping to some retailers early and will be available next week. We have also been told that the advertising campaign, which includes television commercials, will begin around the same time. |
I'm so pleased that R&C is coming one week "early" (or more accurately, on time). I've started a R&C thread since that's one game that deserves it's own hype generating thread.
Just bought Calling All Cars. That's a cool, fun little game. I played something similar on the xbox; it was a multiplayer game on Midtown madness. This is even better, I think. Anyone should feel good about spending $5 on this game. And yeah, Corvin, the store is very retarded about the way you pay for things in your "wallet". What's up with that? |
It's official: Sony announces US$ 100 price drop for 80GB PlayStation 3 It looks like analyst Michael Pachter was right on the mark when he predicted a possible price cut for Sony's 80 GB PlayStation 3. The company has just announced that they will be marking down the 80 GB unit's sell price down to US$ 499, effective immediately. Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) CEO Jack Tretton had this to say regarding the price drop: We're pleased to offer the consumer a lower price point without sacrificing the core technology components that make PS3 the most advanced high-definition entertainment system available. Every PS3 comes with a Blu-ray drive, HDMI output, an integrated Wi-Fi connection, Cell Broadband Engine and a built-in hard-drive. |
I'm stoked, one step closer to the $250 - $299 sweet spot when I'll be buying.

This has probably been discussed before, and if so I am sorry, but I just noticed it says there will be no backwards compatibility via software on the 40 GB model. Does this mean it will never be backward compatible at all? They won't release update patches like the 360 does and the current 80 GB model? Why would they do it with the 80 GB model but not the 40 GB model?

I know EE stands for Emotion Engine, but what does GS stand for?
Also, is Sony going to phase out the 80 GB model like they did with the 60 GB? |

This just up at CAG: Buy a 60 GB PS3 at BB now and get for free your choice of 1: An extra sixaxis, 2: Heavenly Sword, or 3: Lair. While this might not seem like such a good deal since the 80 GB with Motorstorm is the same price now ($499), some might find it appealing if they want to ensure full BC.
... And also on the retail front, the Costco bundle (80 GB with Motorstorm, extra sixaxis, bluetooth remote) has dropped by $100 and is now $559.99. Not the greatest deal in the world, but their return policy can't be beat. |

Do you think that the Motorstorm pack in will last through November? Because if I order through Amazon I can save $30 in taxes but then I can't return it. I really want the current 80 gig model with the BC (between no BC and BC I'll choose BC) and I don't want it to sell out by a month from now (34 days to be exact).

<hr> Some thoughts on PSN downloadble titles: Everyday Shooter. $9.99. Not near the same level as Geometry Wars or Mutant Storm Reloaded, but this is a fun game especially if you like artsy crap like Lumines. Recommended. LocoRoco Cocoreccho $7.99 (?). An absolute blast. Not a "screen saver" by any stretch of the imagination. It's a pretty short game but I've replayed it several times (trying to unlock more areas) and it's actually very relaxing. Highly recommended.  Calling All Cars. For $4.99 (until Oct 25) it's not bad. It's not very varied: it basically plays like a very fun MP mode of a racing game you might like. At $10, I'd feel ripped off. At $5, only less so.  Piyotama. $2.99. I've only tried it once, but this may be the worst puzzle game I've ever played. Not recommended.  |
I'm happy enough with software BC.
Can I buy Calling All Cars without having a console? |
