Great, I might buy it this weekend then.

Super Stardust Extreme is pretty cool, it's not as good as Geometry Wars, but there's more content (weapons, levels, etc.) to it if that's more important to you. It's actually closer to Asteroids more than anything.

I'm still pretty new to the PS3 world. I was browsing the PSN store last night. Are there no demos for Flow, Calling All Cars and some of the smaller Arcade titles?

BravesMG 10-12-07 03:21 PM

I know this is a stupid question, but humor me for a second. There's no way that the PS3 can ever be compatible with an IR remote, correct? Not being able to use my Harmony is driving my wife and I nuts. Having to dig out the extra remote just for watching BD is crazy.

pinata242 10-12-07 03:25 PM

I've read that people are using the Nyko Blue Wave remote. Well, the USB adapter, at least. It'll receive the IR signals once the Harmony is set to mimic it. I don't think there's any power on/off support, though...

BravesMG 10-12-07 03:33 PM

Hmmm... so if I got that and used the USB dongle, does anyone know if Harmony has the mimic codes yet?

pinata242 10-12-07 03:36 PM

People are using it, so I would assume so. If not, you can teach the harmony the codes yourself, right?

Sometimes I'm a bigger idiot than normal... yep I could just teach the harmony the codes, thanks for the tip.

There's no on\off on the official remote either, stupidly. I use the original one because of the advanced features it offers that are unavailable on the IR ones (they can only emulate the controller buttons). Still it's less than ideal and I hate that it's impossible to see in a dark room. This may be a good alternative, though the dongle takes away from the PS3's limited aesthetics. And Harmony is awesome about updating their database all the time. I bet this remote code is there already.

pinata242 10-12-07 04:14 PM

Oh, also don't take that link I posted as a recommendation for a retailer. It was just the first one that came up when I googled it :D

The PS button acts as the On/Off switch. I'm surprised this wasn't included on the Nyko remote...

Noonan 10-12-07 06:23 PM

The PS button only works when used through Bluetooth. That's why none of the IR remotes have it on them.

New shots of Drake's Fortune today: http://www.videogametalk.com/news.php

SuperBatMan 10-18-07 07:15 AM

The 40GB PS3 is officially announced at $399. It will be released on November 2nd. The 80GB PS3 gets a price drop to $499.

http://www.reuters.com/article/techn...32325620071018

I think I'll be picking up the 80GB Motorstorm bundle. Finally a pretty decent price, and I can't resist the Blu-Ray movies of Spiderman and Pirates coming out soon.

PixyJunket 10-18-07 07:26 AM

Two new models and two price restructurings in under a year, that's got to be a record.

I wonder what price the 60GBs still in stock will be going for now.

flOw, the full game, is a PC title, completely free.

Ocelot 10-18-07 08:56 AM

hmmm, how does flOw controlled on the PC? Clicking the mouse is not the same as playing the game with the sixaxis...

Shit man, i wish i hadn't brought my PS3 that early... My X360 is $400 and it doesn't even come with WiFi and HD-DVD playback :(

SuperBatMan 10-18-07 09:16 AM

http://kotaku.com/gaming/north-ameri...ase-312267.php

The 40GB will also come with the Blu-Ray version of Spiderman 3.

Somewhat of a lame deal if you wanted a PS3 and bought this, and wanted the Spiderman trilogy as well, considering you can't buy Spiderman 1 or 2 separately.

This is my MAJOR gripe with the PS3....a lot of downloadable games have NO demos. I actually bought both of those and FLOW gets boring QUICKLY and Calling All Cars is fun. I believe I bought them both when they were on SALE (which is a NICE thing Sony does every once in a while).

Does the 40g actually come with wireless? I know they stripped out backwards compatibility, the extra memory card slots, and 2 USB ports.

Decker 10-18-07 09:49 AM

Here's what I don't get : who needs more than 40GB on the PS3 anyway? You don't need the b/c software that takes 7/20 of the 360's drive (well, it's not needed in the 60, absent in the 40 and not counted in the 80 model). You don't have many of the large map files that the 360 does. You don't have all the down-loadable video content. Sure, Warhawk is a big game file, but besides that, what could be taking up much space? Unless you want to put a large amount of your digital music files on the system, or want to have all the available demos on the HD at all time, I can't imagine ever needing more than 40.

Yes, still with wifi (important for desired PSP/PS3 connectivity).

Well, that and you can put your own HDD in, unlike the 360. But when all this tivo/pvr stuff comes out, I'm sure we'll all be wanting bigger hard drives.

Also, for the Spiderman 3 inclusion... I guess it's a freebie, so they expect hardcore fans to buy it anyway (and I'm pretty sure they'll eventually release Spidey 1 and 2 separately). They did a similar thing with the Talledega Nights Bluray that was originally packaged with the system... I don't think it's the uncut version that you can purchase separately.

Good question. I'm still seeing them in store and if they drop to $399 it will really be worth picking up for anyone wanting solid backwards compatibility.
