Assuming the HDD still works then you would almost certainly get the new revision with your old HDD in. For the moment they might still be able to provide refurbished units with the emotion engine but that won't last.

I'll demand my own console returned. I use mine mostly for PS2 games and want the EE chip.

That said I'm sure they will improve the software emulation as time goes on, but it will never replace the EE chip. Hell, even the chip used now isn't as good or complete as the one in the original version of the PS2.

Supermallet 09-10-07 10:49 PM

Considering it's Sony, they'll tell you whatever happened is not covered by the warranty and you'll have to buy a new one. By that time, it won't have the Emotion Chip.

Well, got my first (and only until R & C Future drops) game for the PS3, Motorstorm. I actually quite like it. There's obviously been a lot of work put into the tracks and balancing things so that you can win any race with either an ATV or a Big Rig if you run it right. The graphics are nice, but I do wish the frame rate was a little better; what is it, 30? I've just started messing with it; is there some way to turn off the "mud effect"? The game is hard enough without having my vision obscured.

If your console is broke, well it's broke. Good luck with that :p

I just rented it last week and liked it as well. I think I'll pick it up when I can find it for around $20. I've only had a problem with the "mud effect" once. The screen got so dark I rammed right into a giant rock. I think I lost that race.

I enjoy racing with every vehicle except the bikes. I can't win those to save my life. Bronze on every Bike race for me. I seem to do best in the Rigs. I love ramming everyone out of the way. Seems that their path is always the shortest. The game does seem really well balanced. The developers did a great job with that.

I guess it would depend on the problem. If it is just something that can be repaired I will expect my console repaired and returned. They may have plenty of the 60GBs for refurb anyway.

Several idiot questions, please bear with me. :)

FYI, One of the first things I did is update to the latest firmware v1.92.

1) I thought the latest firmware turned off the controller? I used it to turn off the PS3 yesterday and had to recharge the controller again today. What's the proper way to turn off both?

2) Using the controller, how can I bypass the 15 minutes of trailers on a Blu-Ray disc? I tried all of the buttons.

3) When I'm online in the store and have a Demo highlighted, how do I "grab it"? I thought something as easy as Select or "X", but it's not exactly clear.

That's all for now, I'm sure there will be more.

1) So did I, but apparently that is not true. I can't find the option for auto turn off, but if you turn off the console with the controller it should turn off as well.

2) Hit triangle to get the on screen display of options. Choose menu.

3) You just hit X to go to the page for the demo and choose download with X (or do you have to hit start? well, it should say on screen). Once it downloads you will have to install it by selecting it and choosing install.

Chew 09-12-07 06:50 AM

Thanks for that, I'll try those out tonight.

As to #3, I did try both of those? I had thought I wouldn't be required to sign up for a PS3 online account (because there wasn't anything tell me I had to), but I'm guessing that must be it.

Supermallet 09-12-07 11:20 AM

Well, I had a weird experience last night. I use my PS3 almost exclusively for movies, but last night I tried to do some gaming on it. For some reason, my controller was going wonky. Whenever I tried to quit a game by hitting the PS button, the controller stopped responding. It would go to the menu layover, and it would even let me use the directional buttons to scan through the options, but it wouldn't let me use any of the symbol buttons to confirm my selection or exit the menu. I had to use the remote to actually get anywhere. I haven't tried it today to see if it's still happening, but it was very frustrating.

Chew 09-12-07 11:33 AM

It's good to know firmware can take care of some of these weird wireless controller design issues, because there seems to be a lot of them.

XavierMike 09-12-07 11:03 PM

Firmware 1.93 is now available. I'm not sure yet what it does/fixes.

Harry Lime 09-13-07 04:11 AM

its been put out to correct any problems 1.92 might have caused.

Pixel Junk Racers looks pretty cool.

Noonan 09-13-07 01:55 PM

deleted, wrong thread...

Canis Firebrand 09-13-07 01:58 PM

That does look nice.

I'll have to read up on the link.

PixyJunket 09-13-07 02:00 PM

That's by Tri-Ace, not Square-Enix.. and it's an Xbox 360 only title, published by Microsoft.

PixyJunket 09-13-07 02:02 PM

(Edit: I guess Square-Enix is co-publishing).

 oops!

Noonan 09-13-07 02:15 PM

Oops...yeah, I totally meant to put that in the XBOX thread. I will move it.

Wow, Strip Poker on a next-gen system! Hopefully Tecmo is developing it!

Ok, #1 works fine now.

I said they were idiot questions and I meant it. The reason I couldn't get any demos is because I was accessing the Playstation store through the PS3 web browser: it won't allow you to download demos that way.

Supermallet 09-13-07 05:04 PM

Well, my controller still isn't working with the PS3 menu. If I play a game, it works fine. The moment I access the PS3 system itself, it won't register the face buttons. I have no idea why the hell it isn't working and it's pissing me off.
