I updated the firmware last night. I usually don't have connection issues, but these last few days things have not worked properly. So I'm not sure if the router is to blame, or the PS network. I hope nothing is wrong with the PS3.

Regarding online play, I'm hoping EA servers are to blame for my frequent disconnects and not my setup.

Really? Uh-oh... I hope I'm not in the .2%. With it's convex top, I'm not even sure it'll be stable if I flip it upside-down... :)

Have you tried wireless to see if that works better? Not sure what else....I had the same issue though. I read that the Linksys WRT54G was known to have issues.

Mr. Cinema 08-18-07 07:11 AM

Yeah, wireless is just as quirky. Are the issues specifically with the PS3? My Wii has no problems connecting via wireless, but the PS3 always loses the connection at least once. I guess I'll be researching for a new brand of router.

Sorry if this has already been discussed ad nauseum, but I couldn't find it. Is the 60GB version of the PS3 (with the old chip that was dropped for the 80GB) able to play all PS1 and PS2 games with no significant issues? Or are there still some backward compatibility problems? I'm wondering if I can buy any last-gen games that I want, or if there's a list I should consult first.

The 60GB has about the same level of compatibility as the current slim PS2.

Check this page http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/CompatibleStatus to see if the game you want will work.

Walker Boh 08-18-07 12:15 PM

That's exactly what I was looking for. Thank you.

Play magazine's review of Heavenly Sword makes it sounds fantastic...

Mine is just the opposite. My PS3 connection never gives me any problems, but the Wii does. It's because I have to keep the router on channel 6 because it just isn't stable when it's on 1 or 11. I probably have to get another router too.

So I've got one coming and thought I'd ask this here instead of just the deal thread:

Also, is this useless now?

Music 08-19-07 11:17 AM

Yep, it is a one time thing.

You create an internal memory card and transfer the saves over.

Kuroc 08-19-07 01:44 PM

question about backwards compatibly

Do the lunar games work on the PS3 and a question about Xenogears(haven't played it yet).
I've heard that if you play it on the PS2 the game will crash on a certain boss battle.
Does this happen on the PS3?

Sonny Corinthos 08-19-07 04:35 PM

Does anyone know of any websites that you can make a ps3 gamercard? Thanks for your help.

You can transfer saves back and forth. I keep all of my PS2 saves backed up on the memory cards. I have heard of saves on the internal HDD getting corrupted and don't want to risk it. I will play the game on the PS3 and save to the internal drive, but will also back the saves up from time to time to a memory card.

How is the PS3's DVD upscaling compared with an HDMI-360 and stand-alone 1080i players?

kurupt 08-20-07 02:51 PM

I have no basis for comparison, but the PS3's upscaler is really good, in my opinion. I was watching Empire Strikes back and I switched back and forth during a scene when they're in a hangar on Hoth. It looks drastically better.

do you use the regular setting or the "double overscan" setting?

kurupt 08-21-07 01:49 AM

I use regular.

DodgingCars 08-21-07 11:38 AM

So, I guess the PS3 won't be playing Transformers (the movie) or Shrek 3 anytime soon.

Not so much. Brilliant move by HD DVD, but I don't know if it will be enough to save them in the long run.

Maybe not, but it will definitely keep them in the game long enough to reach mass-market consumer pricing before Blu-ray, where they will gain an edge.

Still won't help Hd-dvd since a majority of the summer blockbusters are still coming to blu-ray.

Here's the 20 top grossing movies of the year:

1) Spiderman 3 (BD)
2) Shred the 3rd (HD)
3) POTC: AWE (BD)
4) Transformers (HD)
5) Harry Potter (HD excl MAYBE, then BD, but both)
6) 300 (both)
7) Rataouille (BD)
8) Wild Hogs (BD)
9) Borne Ultimatum (HD)
10) Simpsons Movie (BD)
11) Knocked Up (HD)
12) Die Hard 4 (BD)
13) FF2 (BD)
14) Blades of Glory (HD)
15) Ocean's 13 (both)
16) Ghost Rider (BD)
17) Chuck and Larry (HD)
18) Hairspray (??)
19) Evan Almighty (HD)
20) Meet the Robinsons (BD)

At least 7 are HD exclusives, and some of the bigger WB titles will probably have HD exclusivity for a brief period.

This is the first I've heard of this but, admittedly, I haven't paid much attention before now. Any idea of the length of the exclusive window on HP?

Sorry, I meant to write PROBABLY exclusive. I still have a feeling that WB prefers HD over BD.

To be clear - I have NO information that this will actually happen, just my own personal belief.
