Has anyone used TVersity to stream media through a PS3? I can't get the PS3 to recognize it as a media server for some reason.

Yeah, I noticed pixelation on the second Transformers trailer as well as some other trailers (Shrek 3 had some pretty bad spots). At first I thought my download had some bad data or something, but then I read about other people seeing the same thing, so you can just chalk it up to a bit of bad encoding on some trailers.

Looks like a minor update is coming today. From the Playstation Blog posted on June 14...
"Just a quick update: we’ll be making available firmware upgrade 1.81 tomorrow which will fix a few small issues some of you have noticed. Most notably is the RGB Full setting which a few of you wrote in about. In 1.80 we added an option to the XMB under settings allowing you to choose between RGB Full and Limited. Basically if you are connecting your PS3 to your TV using an HDMI cable, and if your TV supports RGB full range, the picture quality may be improved when this option is set to Full. Some of you pointed out that the Full setting would sometimes revert back to Limited and 1.81 will address this issue. Please keep in mind that this setting is only effective when the PS3 is connected to a TV using an HDMI cable. You can download the update tomorrow from PlayStation.com or through your System Update option on the PS3 XMB.
We’re continually evaluating and improving PS2 software compatibility too. Where we can, we’ll look to share similar updates like this on our blog moving forward. Thanks for your ongoing feedback and support!"

Stringer Promises To “Refine” PS3 Price Before Christmas
Sony Group Chairman and CEO Howard Stringer has appeared to confirm that the PlayStation 3 will undergo a price cut before the Christmas gift buying season this year, indicating that the company is currently looking at ways to drop the price without incurring undue extra losses.
Speaking in a new video interview with the Financial Times, Howard acknowledges customer resistance to the current high price of the PlayStation 3 but indicates that the company is trying to “refine” how much more it can afford to cut the price of the console.
When asked if this process would be completed by Christmas, Stringer answered, “Yes, of course.” Although said in a relatively offhand manner, Stringer’s comments appear to be open to little interpretation other than signaling a price cut for the console, in unspecified regions, this autumn.
“I think PlayStation 3’s travails are solved by time”, added Stringer. “Energy [in PlayStation 3 sales] by Christmas, and then you will begin to see break out games.” He also went on to assert that current games were only using 20 percent of the console’s “bandwidth” and that future titles would be seen to be taking fuller advantage of the format’s graphical power.
Howard was also asked about the continuing success of the Wii, which outsold both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 combined last month in the U.S., saying that it was based on a “very good business model”. However, he implied that the two consoles were not competing, but were instead “complementary and supplementary”.
“Nintendo Wii has been a successful enterprise, and a very good business model, compared with ours... because it’s cheaper,” said Stringer. “That is what we are studying at the moment. That’s what we are trying to refine.”

Well I finally bit the bullet and picked up a PS3 today. I’ve been looking at stand-alone Blu-ray players for awhile and decided to go with the PS3 since I’ve heard such good things about PQ for both Blu-ray and unconverted DVDs.
The only thing that irks my about the system is the inability to use my Harmony 880 without using a workaround. The lack of games doesn’t really bother me for the time being since I plan to use it primarily for moves, however, I haven’t had a PS2 in several years so I plan on picking up some games I missed out on like God of War I & II.

I checked my owner's manual and saw no mention of these things, which makes me think the TV doesn't support it. At the same time, it's a new model Sony TV, which you would think of all brands would support this stuff they're adding to the PS3.

Anyone have any issues streaming music from their PC to PS3 using WMP11? I added probably about 200GB of music from an external HDD connected to my PC. It actually shows all the CD Cover (jpg) fine as pictures, but the music always gives me an error (like it timed out or lost connection to the server).

I think they'll be FORCED to price drop this holiday season.. regardless if they want to or not. I think both the Xbox 360 and Wii are going to be cheaper at the end of the year. I think the Wii and Wii Sports will separate and the Xbox 360 will finally see its first drop (at two years.. it's probably overdue, right?). The negativity of the price would just increase with a widened difference.

I agree. It's almost a give that there will be a $100 price drop on the 360 IMO. Look for it in October/November after they've given Bioshock, Halo 3 et al. a couple of months to sell more consoles at current prices. Wii minus Wiisports for $199.99 seems likely too.
Sony will be forced to follow suit. Honestly, even if MS doesn't drop price first, they need to find a way to cut $200 off the PS3 price (maybe bring the 20GB units back at $400?) to have any chance of making up any ground this holiday season.

I just got a PS3 and it seems anytime I try to download a video/demo in the web browser section nothing happens when I click on a title. Does anyone know why it's doing it and how I can get it to work? Thanks!

Why is the price such a factor? It's the same price as the 360 with the HD DVD player option. Is it becuase you can't get a cheaper PS3 without blueray? Can you play games on the 360 from the HDDVD option? Or strickly for movies? Seems to me that the PS3 has some future built into it when games can fully utilize the full bandwidth of blueray.

Hey everyone, you told us you wanted to hear about updates a few days in advance, so here’s a quick heads up that we have a PS3 firmware update in the works. Scheduled for release in the next few days, firmware 1.82 is an update that enables the playback of AVC High Profile (H.264/MPEG-4) files. As most of you know, these are high quality files that you’ll now be able to play on your PS3. Hopefully this update is moving us closer to the audio playback features many of you commented about in my post the other week. We’re continuing to evaluate and improve things across the board, including PS2 software compatibility. I’ll chime in here quickly with an update once the firmware is live and ready.
