I also wouldn't be too surprised if they delayed the game again, especially with Heavenly Sword scheduled to come out in the same time period.

Most of the complaints in the reviews were about the controls, you can only use the motion sensing for flight. It is possible they could add an option to use the sticks for flight and that could change the review scores.

Okay, here's my mini-report on the PS3: Yawn. Okay, I guess that's not TOO fair, given the limited amount of stuff I got to do.. but fair in that, for now, that limited amount of stuff is all I care about on the system.
I bought Goodfellas on Blu-Ray since Fry's had it for $13.99 but the system only played it at 480i without HDMI. It still looked better than DVD though, for what it's worth. The angering part is that my friend (who by sheer happenstance was GIVEN a PS3 by his job the day before he was going to pick up his $350 one from the pawn shop) got an HDMI cable and then forgot to bring it over. This weekend though.. we may try again.
Super Stardust HD is pretty cool. I'd put it before Geometry Wars and Mutant Storm Reloaded, to be honest.. but if a PS3 ends up in my entertainment center in the near future, I will be picking it up for sure. He had a couple of demos, but I passed over them for now as we were anxious to get started on Mario Strikers and Bomberman Live.
The saddest part of the night was the haphazard PS2 upscaling.. it's just horrible. It's honestly no better than what my TV does, which sucks badly to begin with. The "smoothing" option adds a blurry haze to everything, but at the same time, doesn't look as bad as blurring normally does. The OG Xbox games I've played on the 360 look crisp and sharp.. which is what I like, not fuzzy, blurry Vaseline-vision. Hopefully, future system updates will offer better options, like the "Double-Pixel" option they offer for DVD upscaling.
Since my girlfriend is bound to buy an HD player when she moves in (our deal for me footing the bill for the HDTV), the perfomance of the Blu-Ray and DVD playback over HDMI once we get the chance will be pivotal.. I'm sure it's going to be excellent, so I'd expect myself to be in the PS3 camp before the end of the year on her bill.

Pixy, why was the PS3 only able to do 480i without HDMI? Not even 480p?

Also, I'd try the upscaling set to Normal with Smoothing off. Double Scale just stretches the picture and Smoothing just makes it more blurry.

Well, BD is limited to 1080i over component. In the Display Settings, did you select 1080i and 720p as available resolutions or did you just select 1080p and that's it? You need to have it selected for the system to output that format.

Then again, Pixy also claimed to play HD-DVDs on a SD TV, so go figure.

Mine Westy 42" LCD also takes 1080p over component (as supplied by the 360). I don't know how you can argue when it says 1920x1080, 60Hz when my 1080i cable box (component) says 1920x540, 60Hz as does the HDMI-attached upconverting DVD player.

So, what TV is it? The reason why Blu-Ray dosen't work over component is probably because of this:
AVS Forum steal:
So, you can blame Hollywood or whomever.
AVS Forum steal:
AACS allows 480i, 480p, 576i, 576p, 720p and 1080i analog output. If the "Image Constraint Token" (ICT) on an AACS disc is set to 1, the analog output stage pathway is limited to a maximum of 520,000 active pixels (e.g., 960x540p), and it can then be resampled back to whatever.

Holy Christ guys. I KNOW why it didn't play at 1080p. I was just pointing out that it set to 480i when I tried it and I even mentioned that the guy forgot the HDMI cable in my initial post. I was not asking what was wrong. I even asked if the PS3 did everything else at 1080p over component because I had a PS2 component cable previously.. I don't know why I'm being talked to like I'm a dribbling idiot in this thread..
