I don't get that either. The DS games(brain games, cooking mama, etc.) succeeded because of their price. The Wii is totally working against that.

Yeah, I don't get it either. I guess Nintendo just thinks they'll sell at $50 since the game library is so thin right now, and they don't need them cheap to sell consoles as there are no consoles on store shelves anyway (or very few). With the DS light it was everywhere, so having BA and BBA etc. for cheap helped move a lot of consoles.

Still sucks.

I doubt I'd get BBA for Wii at any price though, that genre just seems better suited to the handhelds. And I got sick of the two DS games pretty fast anyway (though my GF loves them so I gave them to her with my Phat DS).

Big Brain academy flopped in Japan and I think it will in the US. These brain games worked because they were portable and cheap. I can't imagine many people wanting to pay $50 to do this stuff at home on a big TV.

Cooking Mama is a joke on many levels. Not only is it not much better than the $20 DS game (multiplayer is the big advantage) but the controls for many of the cooking procedures are terrible. Yet another Wii game I have hated because of the Wii mote.

I'm also in the camp who refuses to buy Big Brain, Cooking Mama and Wario Ware for the prices they are charging. None of these games really feel that deep or fleshed out. That's fine. I don't need every game to be like that but when you are charging as much as 50 dollars it's a little hard to justify it. Wii Play is a very limited game. There's no options and the games are far from deep. Yet it cost 10 bucks if you factor in the value of the remote so I bought it the day it came out.

what's considered a flop? It's the #7 top selling game in Japan and the #4 top selling Wii game in Japan.

My fiance's mom bought us Cooking Mama... it isn't what Jan thought though. She thought it was one of those games where you have to... say build a burger piece by piece as the ingredients come off a conveyor belt, per the customer's desire - she loves a bunch of those and they come in many varieties - beauty salons, flower shops, bakeries, etc...) It is still somewhat fun - probably will be more-so with 2 player (haven't played that way yet, but will tonight).

Got the Wii hooked up to the new TV with the Monoprice component cables today (got them the other day, but had to wait until I had time to track down some RCA cable connectors so I could extent the audio over to the receiver).

I must say, Zelda looks damn nice in 480p. Maybe that will finally get me motivated to spend some more time doing the sidequests and stuff I skipped on my first play through.

Is Super Paper Mario 16x9 and 480P? I plan on buying that in early July.

I've yet to play a Wii game that is worth $50. This is not a knock on the Wii, more on the $50. There's not many 360 games worth $50 either, IMHO.

You'd actually have to play more than arcade titles to be qualified to make this statement. ;) I'd say there are a dozen or so well worth their pricetag.

As for the Wii, I would say you are correct. Thera are a good handful that would be GREAT games at a $30 pricepoint.

Zelda was well worth the $50, and I suspect Super Paper Mario is as well (will find out next month when I finally have time to play it). But beyond that there's nothing else worth more than $20 to me, and WarioWare is probably the only game I'd buy even at that price.

But like The Bus, there's not many games period that I'll pay $50 for. Has to be something I really want to play right away as otherwise it's just more sensible to wait for a sale, deal, price drop etc.

That's one good thing about having a Gamefly account -- you can pick up stuff used at a good price. I think Warioware on there is about $27. I figure if they still have it when I get my $5 off coupon, I'll pick it up for $22.

Me too. Consider using Brightspot.tv with Gamefly. You watch 30sec commercials and earn $.50 for each one. You can earn up to $10/mo to apply towards your Gamefly account. For a few minutes of your time a month, it's worth it. For some reason they haven't been giving me as many commercials to watch this month though, so I've only earned $2.50 so far... but there is 10 more days until they send my payment to Gamefly.

It certainly takes a bit of the sting off of the high monthly cost.

But then you have to factor in how much you feel your own time or personal time is worth, versus how much you are actually being 'paid' for the service.

Yep, my time is too limited, and therefore too valued, to bother with that just to save $10 or less a month.

I dunno.. if you get $0.50 a commercial. That's 20 commericials. They average 30 seconds. That's 10 minutes a month. Last time it seemed like I only got $0.25 though.. don't know if they changed their rate or if that was just something special.. but even then, that's 20 minutes a month.

On top of that, you don't actually have to watch them. You just have to spend about 5 seconds answering some questions (multiple choice).

$10 for 10-20 minutes (or much less) is well worth it to me.. especially because I'm usually at the computer anyway. To be honest, I usually just have the commercial running in another tab while I'm posting on DVDtalk, then I just switch back and answer the questions.

My time is certainly worth $60/hour, so I'd do it if I were using GameFly, no doubt. Even if they only sent me 5 commercials a month. That's $2.50 I'd save for only giving up a couple minutes of my time.

Is there anything you have to do besides watch? Take a survey about the commercials or anything?
