Is there anything you have to do besides watch? Take a survey about the commercials or anything?

You usually answer 3 multiple choice questions. It takes a couple seconds. It's usually something like (after watching a Ubid.com commercial):

Do you shop online?
1> Yes
2> No

Which is your favorite auction site?
1) ebay
2) ubid.com
3) overstock.com

etc.

You don't pick up pennies on the sidewalk do you?

Who has Wii play? I would love to know if it's worth it or not.

General consensus on it is that it's worth the $10 if you need another Wiimote (since it's $50 and Wiimote by itself is $40), but not worth shelling out the $50 if you don't need another controller.

Yep. Definately not worth $50. There's some pretty fun games and it's worth owning (if you need to controller) even just as a tech demo to show what the Wii-mote can do and to teach the unitiated.

Some games aren't that great on it, but I enjoyed the shooting, billiards, laser hockey, and tank games.

 The minigames are definitely worth $10. Actually, I might even pay around $20 for them (used price at EB/GS, probably less at others).

Wii Play is a great little party game. Especially with the non-gamer crowd. They will play for hours. If you need another controller, I highly recommend Wii Play.

Also check out this crazy high score on the shooting range:

That video sure shows one helluva good German sharpshooter.

runner001 06-14-07 07:34 PM

that video deserves some sort of reward. the shooter hit every duck that came into view and knew every bullseye's location.

Sony - Wii is successful because of price
“I think I would be the first to say to you that Nintendo Wii has been a successful enterprise and a very good business model compared to ours… because it’s cheaper.” - Sony CEO Sir Howard Stringer

When Mr. Stringer was asked about the possibility of the Wii selling better because people are having more fun with it, he responded…

“No, no, no. Fun is in the eye of the experiencer.”

So... does that mean he also thinks the PS3 is selling like shit because of price too?

Finally got one this last Sunday, love the damn thing. There are still lines to get this thing as at 7:55 on Sunday morning I was 15th in line. My daughter, my brother, and my mom all love it as well. Only have Wii Sports and Wii Play but intend on buying more.

Michael Corvin 06-15-07 06:23 AM

Holy shit that is one impressive video. I don't think he missed a single thing. I also had no idea that you could string together same colored balloons for extra points.

StealthStratos 06-15-07 07:45 AM

I just got a widescreen lcd tv, and I'm sort of having trouble getting it working with the Wii. I go into the Wii settings and make sure the screen size is set to widescreen, and then I go into my tv settings and make sure it's set to 16:9 widescreen, right? Is there anything else I need to do? The image comes up in widescreen and it looks ok, but now the wiimote seems so unresponsive. I played a game of laser hockey in Wii Play last night, and I could barely control the paddle.

KurrptSenate 06-15-07 07:50 AM

it really wouldn't make sense that the tv settings would affect your wiimote. sounds like a sensor bar issue more than anything

Michael Corvin 06-15-07 08:09 AM

- Do you have a big light above the sensor bar?

- are you too far from the tv?

- did you try the sensor bar below the tv?

pinata242 06-15-07 08:50 AM

Make sure the sensor bar isn't angled away from your position.

Make sure the Wiimote can "see" the sensor bar (which is misnamed because it doesn't sense anything).

Is there a source of light on the tv that might be interfering like a power light or some other light?

Jeremy517 06-15-07 08:54 AM

Make sure the sensor bar isn't sitting too far back on the TV, so that the TV itself isn't blocking the Wiimote's view of the sensor bar.

StealthStratos 06-15-07 09:08 AM

Thanks for the tips everyone. When I got the lcd, I moved the sensor bar from above the tv to below it, and I made sure to change that in the settings. However, the sensor bar is probably angled a little bit away from me. I'll readjust it tonight and see if it makes a difference. Other than that, there aren't any issues with other light sources or objects blocking the line of sight.

If you've ever turned on the "snap to" settings in a program like Photoshop, that's what it felt like. The cursor felt sluggish around the middle of the screen, and as it got closer to the edge of the screen, it accelerated.

I'm currently using RCA cables but hoping to upgrade to component cables soon. I know I'll obviously get a boost in picture quality, but would the cable type affect the aspect ratio that the Wii is outputting? I guess what I'm getting at is... widescreen tv's have all sorts of settings to manipulate the aspect ratio, but the Wii should be doing all the work and outputting the correct aspect ratio, rather than my tv manipulating the image to make it look right, correct? Sorry for the stupid questions... it's my first new tv in like 8 years, and sadly I've been content with simple RCA connections all my life.

Looks ugly, but it's not priced like that to be beautiful! ;)

He got a +3 instead of a +5 on one of the discs.
