I recommend BGtutu too. The original BG, like most old games, only supports 640x480 resolution, which is really painful to the eyes on today's high-end monitors. BGtutu converts BG1 to the BG2 engine, so you can now play at higher resolutions.

There is one problem though: do you have BG2 or just the original? BGtutu needs both games installed for it to work.

Thanks for the BGtutu suggestion. I only have the original, but I've always intended to pick up BG2 + the BG2 expansion since the package is only around $10 nowadays.

While I never found the original BG to be boring (I am a D&D junkie), BG2 is much better overall. It doesn't have all the meaningless wandering around through endless wilderness areas. I assume that is probably what you don't like since it seems like most people that find the game boring, that is what they complain about.
