Question from a GH newbie here.
I don't own any of the games.
I have a PS3 and a Wii. I also have a PS2 but it's not hooked up.
I'm trying to decide what system to get GH 3 on. I would like to be able to play the older versions too, but I've read you can't play any of the older PS2 GH games with the PS3 controller.
Does a PS2 GH controller wired into the PS3 via adapter work with the older games? I have the 60GB PS3 which should have the necessary backwards compatibility.
Next question:
I've read some stuff here and there that suggested the PS3 controller has some lag issues. Has anyone here experienced this?
Thanks in advance...

Ugh. I downloaded the Velvet Revolver and Foo Fighters packs and am really disappointed. The Foo Fighters songs all feel like variations on "Monkeywrench" from GH2, and the Velvet Revolver songs continue the trend of Neversoft making difficult note charts just for the sake of making them difficult. Heck, in one of the songs, there's one riff you play for quite a while, and while it doesn't change at all, they change from single notes to weird chords just to make it harder. Also, the VR songs all sound a bit lower in volume or something, like they weren't mixed correctly.

I'm not disappointed with the packs...but they sure made the note charts difficult on a few of these... 'This Is A Call' on hard is KICKING MY ASS... it's not even that hard it's just the weird progression, my brain doesn't want to cooperate... even the VR songs are pretty tough even in medium but I love all 6 of these songs, so it's worth it to me.
Got the meet your maker achievement randomly on live and spent another solid 45 minutes losing to Lou on hard... I always seems to get the shitty 'amp overload' powerups and he always gets double notes to throw my way and then in one fell swoop, I'm out.... they shouldn't have bosses in GHIV IMO.

Things are totally different with GHIII. Easy is just way too easy and not much fun and normal seems much harder than it should be. I just can't get the flow of many of the songs.
GHII seemed like you were actually playing along with the songs. They paced out the songs well and there was a flow you could get into.
GHIII just seems like a puzzle game. They just seem to want to toss random shit at you to trip you up. I won't even get into the boss battles that I can not stand. I can pass the songs on normal, but don't feel like I'm doing more than just surviving them. Definitely not the fun I had with GHII by any stretch. I'm seriously considering selling it and buying Rock Band for PS3.

Finally got it last night. Played all the way through Easy as a refresher and to get a feel for the new guitar/note playing. 5 star-d every song but Raining Blood. Got a couple of 'perfects.'
Missed one fucking note on 'One,' had a streak of 491 when I missed it.
I didn't mind the guitar battles, but that probably has more to do with it being on easy than anything. Don't hate it, but don't really like it either. Just a roadblock to playing more songs.

One thing I noticed is there are hardly any syncopated beats or anything. Nothing has really tripped me up.

Yeah, easy is definitely easier than in GHII. I'd say on every song I didn't get perfect I was under 5 notes off. More often than not, I only missed 3.
I also felt the difficulty ramped up by tiers a lot better in GHII, as far as teaching, to get better at the game progressing to chords and eventually Blue notes in a few tracks at the end.

I don't usually get the highest scores. When I build up enough star power, I usually deploy it pretty quickly after getting it. Unless it comes at a time where there are no notes, then I'll hold it until the notes start up again and deploy it.

I've been trying to beat Cartman and you this morning and not always having the best luck. However, this will make his blood boil:
Miss Murder:
Mordred Score 312,869
gonthegh 312,704

Took an FC to do it and I didn't activate properly at the end (still had a good quarter SP left when the song ended) but I'm happy

Edit: Just saw that's actually #11 on the Wii boards, so that beats my RYLaH score!

A path of 2-3-2 for example means in a song that has 7 sets of star notes you pick up 2 sets of star notes, activate, pick up 3 steps of star notes, activate, and 2 sets of star notes then activate.

But the fact that you have to complete specific runs of notes multiple times to win a battle (and even then it's a crap shoot) adds an unneccesary amount of tension to the game. I beat Tom Morello on my 360 and have continued on, but watched a friend battle Slash on the Wii and it looked like no fun at all. If I can't beat him after a few tries, I'll just do the unlock code. I have better ways to spend my time.
