Ordered...and really looking forward to it.

If they got the controls even remotely right, this one could be a lot of fun...and I'm happy to support it, if for no other reason than to send Capcom a message. Already sold my GCN version in anticipation, and the Wii version is only going to run me about a $7 difference with Google checkout.

As a new Wii owner (one week), this is one I will have to have. I haven't played a RE game since the first one. Man, was that a long time ago on a PS1 which I got at launch. I am sooo looking forward to this.

Man, you NEED to play the Gamecube remake if you liked the original. The remake is simply amazing. The original was great, but the huge blocky zombie models are not scary at all. The remake is very scary.

Resident Evil 2 (which I really wish would have gotten a remake too) is considered the best RE game by most RE fans. You should check it out too.

Aw, man. You'll enjoy RE 4. One of the top 5 Gamecube games. I'm getting it again on the Wii. No doubt about it.

I'm glad they set the price at $30. This is what everyone else should have done with these Wiimakes. I'm looking at you Godfather, Prince of Persia, and Scarface!

And isn't this the opposite of what they did with RE2 and RE3 for the GC? Remember when they priced those at $50?

In 10 minutes, I'm going out to buy a Wii just so I can play this game when it comes out!

Luck? I phoned the night before to confirm that the store was getting a Wii shipment today, and got there 50 minutes before it opened. I was 5th in line.

Now the Wii's in a shopping bag on my table and I'm busy packing up my GameCube to sell on Craigslist.

Zelda and Super Paper Mario are the best games of 06 and 07 respectively IMO. Well worth the time and $.

It looked good, but I just couldn't get into it for some reason...felt way to clunky.

Resident Evil 2 (which I really wish would have gotten a remake too) is considered the best RE game by most RE fans. You should check it out too.
I dug the post-apacalyptic feel of RE2, but RE4 is a much much better game overall...perhaps a bit more action than suspense though.

It has the same control scheme as every other RE game. Even RE4 has the same tank-like controls. They just try to fool you into thinking it is different by changing the camera angle.

Yeah I agree that RE4 is a great game, but like most RE fans, I say it is not a great RE game. RE is supposed to be survival horror. There is no survival horrot in RE4; it is all action.

If by "the same control scheme" you mean pressing up still moves your character forward, then I suppose. I'd argue that a moving camera behind your character in a real-time environment is a far less clunky solution than a fixed camera and a prerendered background. The aiming is much different as well. There was nothing more clunky that wasting one of my three bullets because the camera angle sucked.

I loved the first RE back in its PS1 heyday, but after a few decently executed third person games came out (stuff like Syphon Filter and Tomb Raider), it was really tough to play through it again...and I don't think I ever did. I borrowed RE2 and liked the story a lot, but I could only stomach playing through as one character.

I agree on this point, and I suspect that the Wii controls will make it even more action oriented. However, the awkward horror movie camera angles were a big part of what made RE scary, and I don't miss them at all.

Bump.

Alright, it's Edit: 13 days until Resident Evil 4 hits shelves on the Wii. From the sound of it, this'll have some features that will make even the transition from Gamecube and PS2 worth the trouble (and for ~$30), not to mention those that haven't even played the game yet.

1) Compatibility with a Gamecube controller for fluctuating gaming moods.
2) 16x9 Graphics with a "more" advanced graphics chip (not a huge point, but still there).
3) All material, including the side missions, costumes, and weapons, from both versions are included.

Anyone else getting ramped up about jumping on board?

Way too little sleep and complete exhaustion messed up my brain calendar. Thanks for the tap on the shoulder.

I spoke out against it earlier in the thread, but have since backpedaled. I never played the GCN or PS2 version, but anamorphic is worth it alone.

IGN gives it a 9.0
Gamespot gives it a 9.1

Both pretty much say this is the definitive version of the game. The scores aren't as high as before, since this is a port of a 2 year old game, and the graphics are showing their age.

Sad but true. I don't think there's been a Wii game yet that has pushed it's graphics capabilities. Mario Galaxy and Super Smash both look impressive though.

I'd like to try out the Wii version, but I just bought the GC version (before the annoucement). I only paid $9, so it's not a big deal.

1up.com gave it an 8.0 and said it was inferior to the previous versions of the games....

I have my doubts about that one, given it's a simultaneous release on the Wii, PS2 and PSP, so there's probably some lowest common denominator effect with the development there.
