I just took the other path.

Spoiler:
El Gigante goes down with one hit from the rocket launcher, and you're done

I take both paths for all the money and stuff.

Spoiler:
Hide Ashley in a box as already said. Use the shotgun on the chainsaw chicks. One blast from it will knock them down. When they get back up, blast them again. Grenades are also very effective to take down huge mobs.

For El Gigante, I never buy the rocket launcher since it is just a big waste of money. The uzi will bring him to his knees very fast though. When he is on his knees, run up and jump on him and slash away at the exposed parasite with your knife. It shouldn't take more than three rounds to kill him. You can even kill him in two rounds if you can tap the button/slash the parasite fast enough.

Spoiler:
I feel like I shoot the chainsaw hotties a thousand times, and they keep getting up and up. You think 2 shotgun headhots will do the trick?

Spoiler:
If you feel like you are shooting them a thousand times, are you using the handgun against them? The chainsaw people are like minibosses with tons of hitpoints, so you really don't want to be using the handgun against them.

It will take more than 2 shotgun blasts to kill them. It will probably take 6-8 blasts to kill one. I never actually bothered for headshots when using the shotgun. The "spray" attack isn't really reliable for precise aiming like that. I try to aim for the middle of the mob so that I can hit all enemies simultaneously and damage them all.

Spoiler:
No, I don't use the handgun unless I'm out of ammo. I use the rifle from far away, then the shotgun if they get close. I just keep getting nailed and don't have time to reload. Maybe I should shoot them when they're on the ground.....I never do that....

Thanks for all the help, though, this is great.

with the chainsaw sisters...

Spoiler:
I like to drop down the backside of the pit and then immediately climb the ladder on the front side and run down the long stretch of bridge that I came in. It takes them about 20-30 seconds to climb up to you and gives you 1) a chance to take out a few ganados and 2) a nice narrow pathway that they have to take to get to you.

Shotgun and a few grenades should do the trick. It's the swarm coming up that gets me more often.

I never buy a rocket launcher...choosing to upgrade weapons instead. I even sell the free one.

I do the same, except that I do use the free rocket launcher on the
Spoiler:
sewer Alien-looking boss that appears soon after you get the rocket launcher. Freeze him with liquid nitrogen, and then blow him up with the rocket launcher, and he is dead. Selling equipment gives you only half of what the item is worth. The rocket launcher costs 15,000 I believe, and in my opinion, using the rocket launcher on the sewer boss is worth more than the 7500 it would have cost you in shotgun shells and magnum bullets to kill him.

So for the mercenaries thing, what's the secret to getting 4 *'s? Also, if you do open up all the other characters, does that open up anything in the regular game?

I believe that if you get 5 stars on every stage, with every character, you get the handcannon with infinite ammo? Maybe I'm wrong about that. Seems like a lot of work, and I don't know if I like the Mercenaries game enough to do all that.

It's actually 15K that you get for selling it...vendor sells it for 30K.

I usually don't even kill that guy...just dodge him...but now that I think about it, the piece of crown he gives you is probably worth a large percentage of what I sell the launcher for.

Good strategy.

I just picked this up last night so I'm hoping to finally play a Resident Evil game all the way through.

Hope you enjoy it. The graphics aren't amazing, but the gameplay sure as hell is!

Yep, he drops a crown jewel piece. If you collect all the crown pieces and combine them together, it becomes the most valuable treasure in the game by a lot, so it is definitely worth killing that optional boss.

I always kill the optional enemies because the rewards are always worth the cost in ammo. The optional chainsaw guy at the beginning drops 10K gold. That is a huge amount for so early in the game. After the house defense part with Luis, it gives you the option to take either the right or left path. I take one, complete it, then go back and do the other. Each path has unique and valuable treasures.

Edited to add: I just looked it up on GameFAQs, and the crown with all three pieces is worth 48K. Hmmm... selling the rocket launcher for 15K or using it to waste the optional sewer boss for 48K... tough choice.

The graphics aren't amazing?!?!? Dude, this game had some of the most impressive graphics of last gen. It definitely ranks in the Top 10 Best Graphics of Last Gen. You would have to be seriously spoiled by HD graphics this gen if you find RE4's graphics lacking.

Well, I have never actually seen the Wii version in action, but I couldn't imagine that the graphics are less than the original Cube version. You have to keep in mind that the Wii is not a graphical powerhouse. It is about as powerful as the original Xbox, so you are never going to see 360/PS3 level graphics on the Wii. Wii games may eventually become slightly better looking than RE4, but not substantially more.

The graphics are better than the Cube version, in that it's true anamorphic widescreen instead of letterboxing.

I'm seriously spoiled by HD graphics! I expect it now, as I should.

That's my point, taffer. I don't think the graphics are amazing. They're not destracting me or causing me to cry (much), but they just aren't amazing.

But they are amazing for the time period in which the game was first released. It is not fair to compare graphics across generations. Would you compare MGS to today's graphics? MGS was amazing for its time, but compared to MGS4 it looks butt ugly, so that is not a fair comparison. RE4 is a last gen game, so it should not be compared to today's games.

Plus, if you want amazing HD graphics, then you should not be playing the Wii. It is incapable of such things. The Wii is on par with the Xbox hardware in terms of graphical power. The Xbox was slightly more powerful than the Cube, so expecting a Cube game (RE4) to have significantly improved graphics on a platform that is only slightly more powerful is ignorant.

I don't know what MGS or MGS4 is.

I think it's entirely fair to compare graphics across generations. While at the time Super Mario Brothers was "amazing" graphics, they are not "amazing" today. Similarly, Resident Evil 4 may have been "amazing" two years ago; compared to graphics today, it's not.

It's an opinion, not a fact.

I played through the Cube version dozens of times, eventually unlocking the handcannon with unlimited ammo. I just rented the Wii version and I'm still having a great time with it. However, when I popped in the Wii version of RE4 immediately after playing Ninja Gaiden Sigma on PS3, I felt like my eyes were going to bleed. I know that the graphics were unbelievable when it came out for the Cube, but I guess I'm spoiled by 360 and PS3 graphics now.

On a side note, I was watching the extra bonus video, and it looks like a trailer for Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles. I haven't seen too much footage of that game before this trailer, but it looks pretty interesting. I'll probably pick it up along with the Wii Zapper.

MGS = Metal Gear Solid

If you compare graphics across generations, then that would mean every game from all previous generations has bad graphics. That would mean Halo, Ninja Gaiden, God of War, etc have bad graphics. It also means that when the next-gen consoles come out, Gears of War, Bioshock, Assassin's Creed, etc will suddenly have bad graphics.

You're right, that's exactly what it means. Just like comparing anything old to anything new (athletes, computers, games, chicks) -- likely the new will be better than the old.

Under your scenario, if they released Frogger for Wii, it would be awesome gameplay because it was so awesome back in 1983. Some things just don't hold up - it doesn't mean it wasn't great in its own time.
