The silver skull does unlock a game modifier though. I believe that one is called Blind. It removes the HUD, weapon and crosshair from view on the screen. Pretty much a damn nightmare.

The silver skull on the next level is really quite funny though. It's called Grunt's Birthday Party.

Right, but once you find them what do you do? How do you "claim" them?

I don't know if anyone else is getting this but my 360 is freezing up when I highlight someone on my friends list. Almost everyone is on Halo, I highlight someone, tells me their status and I hit back button and then nothing. I've had to shut it down and re-start. It's happened three times in a row and nothing like this has happened before.

Hey, sent you a PM about tonight...I should be on, depending on what time you're wanting to play. Can't be up too terribly late.

Yep, just got it. I replied to that, but I would imagine it will be too late for you.

Stupid choppers.

Is there a way to adjust the sound effects I could not find the option. The gun sounds and gernades don't sound loud enough.

I had a similar issue last night. I didn't need to restart but the system just hang there for almost a minute. It was taking a long time to load friend profiles and gamerpics.

The sound in this game sucks - it's crazy weak.

I'm getting like a delay when I highlight a friend when they are playing Halo. I can now see more info on their screen such as who is in their party, etc.

That does suck. I'm surprised you can't adjust it.

Well, I broke down while I was in Costco and bought their Halo bundle: Costco Halo 3 Bundle

It's got everything mentioned on their website except the 1 month Gold membership. I guess they had a different bundle in stores because mine came with a Halo 3 Official Guide. All this for $499.99 seemed like a good deal to me and I finally said "F it!" and bought the thing after seeing another guy buying one and a buddy who bought a system (just for Halo) yesterday and was crying for co-op.

The system better not crap out on me! It's got a manufacturing date of 8-09-2007 which I hope is good news. The limited edition Halo 3 discs were just fine and were not off their hubs which was a relief! Very nice package all around!

Question...what's the best way to buy a Gold/Live membership? I originally bought mine thru the Xbox way back when Live was first launched but I did not know if there were any specials regarding price or points-wise to take advantage of instead of paying for Live thru the system (which I am assuming you can do). I saw that the dreaded CC (pricematch!) has a 13 month gold subscription card for $39.99. Best deal going?

I saw that some Gold memberships used to include an Arcade game & coupon toward an Xbox game and another one with a camera and games (Live Vision package) for around $80. Worth it or just stick to a regular subscription?

I am sure I will come up with other questions as I go. Thanks!

Just pick it up by hitting the left and right bumper at the same time. That's all.

I thought once you create a new XBL account it automatically grants you a FREE month (30 days) of service. You are then billed at the end of the 30 days. Before you are billed you can always go out and buy a 12 month sub. card. I think the LIVE VISION Pack is the best value. In addition to a year of XBL, you get the camera, 200 MS points, 2 arcade games (packaged inside, you won't get to choose), and a wired headset.

Well I tried playing Halo 3 and my insane motion sickness got the best of me. I can last about 15 minutes at a time before I have to lay down for hours. Haven't been able to play a FPS since Quake 2. Couldn't make it 10 minutes into the Bioshock demo. Damn, and I really wanted to play this one too.

My GT: SteelgearX. Send invites my way and make sure you let me know you're from here. Be aware I'm almost always on very late at night. Like after midnight late.

The CC deal now is probably the best one that is available, unless you order the card at buy.com with GCO where it's like $32 shipped. Skip the camera bundle at $80 unless you want to have video chats on Live. I got it for $40 last winter and THAT was a good deal. That card should be fine for you.

Microsoft "Halo 3" 1st-day sales hit $170 million

By Peter Henderson
Wed Sep 26, 7:58 PM ET

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp's (MSFT.O) "Halo 3" video game set an opening-day U.S. sales record of $170 million, outdoing any video game or movie debut and giving the company's money-losing entertainment unit a strong boost toward profitability.

Alien-shooting fans also surged onto Microsoft's Xbox Live online service. More than a million members took up virtual arms in "Halo 3" in the first 20 hours on September 25, the day the game debuted, Microsoft said on Wednesday.

"Halo 3" easily surpassed its predecessor, 2004's "Halo 2," which racked up $125 million on the first day. The $60 game also beat the $59 million U.S. opening-day movie box office record, set by "Spider-Man 3."

"It's a good number," said Andy Miedler, technology analyst at Edward Jones. "This certainly goes a long way toward bringing Microsoft's entertainment division toward that full-year profitability, which we think is important for investors," he added. Microsoft aims for a profit for the division in the current fiscal year.

The game is also key to Microsoft's quest to widen its lead over rival Sony Corp (6758.T) in the battle for industry dominance of the current generation of game machines.

The game, in which players try to save humanity from an army of aliens, had drawn wide praise from reviewers for its lush settings, cinematic story and breadth of features.

The first two "Halo" games have sold a combined 15 million copies and cemented Microsoft as a serious player in a video game industry that was dominated by Sony's PlayStation 2.

Sony's follow-up PlayStation 3 is more expensive than the Xbox 360 and so far lacks any "system-seller" games like "Halo 3."

However, "Halo 3" is targeted firmly at the Xbox's core male audience, for whom realistic combat games are a staple. It does little to widen the machine's appeal to a more casual audience that is being courted with tremendous success by Nintendo Co Ltd's (7974.OS) Wii console.

(Additional reporting by Daisuke Wakabayashi in Seattle)

So, it surpassed estimates by $20M.

Were those estimates taking into account the price of the Legendary edition?

if that were the case why would they bother with the cards? Anyway, I don't think they've done free month cards since launch or even prior to that. I think the 360 ushered in the 48 hour trials. I could be wrong though.

Good times last night as it brought back the old "Halo DVD Talker" days and it was good to see some from then as well.

We gave "King of the Hill with Rockets" a try mentioning how fun it was with the first Halo especially in Midship where the pace was fast and bodies were sent flying and piling up faster than you could spawn. It always had us all laughing , what a hoot. As I recall wasn't there a custom called "Fight Club" we played on King of the Hill as well?
