Yeah, well welcome to the "Can't fuckin' play Halo 3 because my 360 is out for repair club".

Sorry for your pain man...

That's what mine was doing today. Walmart replaced it with a Halo 3 version because the white ones were out of stock. My receipt was from April 2006. I never had the warranty or anything through Microsoft or Walmart....God I love Walmart.

...Oh yeah, and with the Halo 3 360 you get an exclusive Halo 3 theme pack and picture pack.

I was too worried to wait for my mailed preorder LE copy. I went to Target to buy a new one. I gently shook a bunch of copies. It took me a while before I found one where I was sure there were no loose discs included. I'm planning to swap it out with my sealed but surely scratched UPS copy later this week. As long as it's not opened, I shouldn't have a problem, right?

fujishig 09-25-07 05:59 PM

Picked up my copy of the $70 one at Target, they knew about the problem and let me open it up in the store, both discs were fine on the hubs.

Then went next door to Best Buy and couldn't resist picking up a Legendary edition... they had quite a few left, and this was at 3pm. Thought it'd be harder to find, though now I'm stuck with it and an open copy. Guess we'll see if I'll return the Legendary.

Any thoughts on the Legendary? Haven't read much about the specs, but the box was bigger than I expected.

Supermallet 09-25-07 06:04 PM

Yeah, I was surprised at how big the Legendary box was. Makes me wonder how big the helmet actually is.

Decker 09-25-07 06:33 PM

You know, I really was tempted to get the Legendary box. It might be cool, but space is at such a premium at my house that I chose to pass on it rather than have my wife bitch at me for cluttering it up further with a large collectible that will certainly peg out the geek-o-meter.

 Go back to the Sony/Blu-ray threads or play the game before you blindly make assumptions about something you know nothing about.

Don't like the 4 hour coverage on G4? Change the channel.

Mine gave out on me YESTERDAY!!!! It didn't even have the decency to wait a day so that I could even try out Halo3 first!!! And to top it off, my disc is scratched (but only lightly so I may not get it replaced...)

The first question my wife asked me was where I was going to put the thing. I ended up with the normal edition.

lopper 09-25-07 07:12 PM

I picked up a copy this morning and have taken the next two days off of work to stay home and play. However, I'm a little worried that my launch 360 isn't going to run the game.

I really don't want to have to buy a new one just for this game.

Why not? It's free with no charge!

I wonder if the theme is the same one available free to current GOLD members for the next few days. I also downloaded a Halo 3 gamer pic and there are 2 behind-the-scenes videos that will be availabe later this week.

Layziebones 09-25-07 07:27 PM

At circuit City they were handing out these 4' Master Chief wall graphics. If you have one; lets make a deal.

thank you for the constructive and insightful contribution, I am not looking for a my system is better than your system argument, leave that to the 12 year olds and the fan boys, its just over done with this game the hype, maybe for a game that brought something new to its video game genre like Knights of the Old Republic or Katamari I can understand, but what does this game offer thats new? and it cant be better graphics and sound

Sorry for your pain man...

I decided to try again and the damn thing started producing the red lights fairly consistently. I called MS back and was up front about it, explaining that I just called because it was freezing and was told that's a $99 charge, but now it actually is red-ringing. They're going to fix it for free.

But I can't wait that long, so I went out and bought a new one. I'll try to sell the repaired one when it gets back.

So now I don't know if I should use the new hard drive or just slap the old one on the new 360. Can anyone share any tips on how they dealt with gettting a new system in terms of the stuff on the hard drive? I have the transfer kit thingy that I used to download NCAA football rosters. I wonder if I can't copy everything over using that? I guess not, since I only have a 64 meg memory card. :(

The CoD4 beta is going away soon, so that's not a big deal (I assume it's a pain to get another code). I can re-download other demos and the few Arcade games I play. But I have to call MS for that, don't I?

I hope to be playing Halo 3 soon...

It doesn't necessarily bring anything new to the table. But what it does have is refinement galore. A tighter, better constructed game/engine you will not find. It is more of the same, and that's part of it's draw - familiarity. But they also improved upon it - and improving on something that was already so tight and refined is quite a feat.

If the game isn't specifically marked in the legendary box... like the halo 3 case actually says legendary edition, then return that one unopened with your receipt

Jeremy517 09-25-07 08:40 PM

The Best Buy that I went to was in the process of pulling all the Limited editions off the shelf. Every single one had loose discs, and most were scratched. They ended up giving people who preordered that version the standard version, then told them that they could exchange it when they got more.

I was getting the standard edition myself. I had already picked up my 3 1600 point cards from the deal, and there was no problem getting the game. 3 1600 points cards + the standard edition for only $75 :banana:

DJariya 09-25-07 09:04 PM

I picked up the regular edition at Best Buy. Didn't feel like spending the extra 10 bucks for the DVD. I noticed some guy exchanging the Limited Edition because his disc was scratched and to top it off as he was ready to walk out the door, his exchange was also scratched....Bummer for him.

Question for the Halo experts....Is this the type of game that will end up taking up to 2-4 hours to play? Is there alot of strategy involved to advance to the next levels? I just want to have fun and kill lots of bad guys without thinking "Do I need to walk through that door?" or "Did I pick up that item in that particular room?"

maingon 09-25-07 09:48 PM

picked up the Limited Edition at Best Buy, No scratch disc for me. Wow great game, I was wondering how the visuals would be, because so far the pictures and videos havent really impressed me but wow, this is one of the best looking games I ever played. I LOVE the lighting. I also Love the music. The opening cinema is awesome. Great music in the opening.

Well, got my first ever taste of Halo tonight, played campaign on Heroic with raven. I can see how the campaign will be short - played a couple hours, and got through 2 1/2 of I think 9 levels. I started out playing alone on Heroic, and it was MUCH harder than playing with somebody (though that could very well be because I suck :p)...I wonder if it's easier yet with 3 or 4 people? While we had plenty of spots we had to play over and over, the checkpoints are abundant enough that it makes it fairly easy.

One thing I didn't do is turn the challenge things on in the settings for co-op play, this is apparently where you have the skulls (like COG tags?) to find?

gmal2003 09-25-07 10:46 PM

I got the game today as well. Im strictly a sports gamer so this is my first taste of Halo. I like it alot. Question, what is the difference between a campaign and a solo game. I played the solo game and it is very fun so far. Ive also played online but have got demolished by seasoned players. any quick tips on playing better online? Is there a site that could give me a nice rundown of the things to do/ not do for this game? I still dont understand many things like the various maps people rave about and the many online modes.

Thanks in advance

hail2dking 09-26-07 12:02 AM

you can play campaign solo or co-op. As for online...practice, practice, etc. Learn the map layouts and weapon locations...shoot for the head...die alot...get corpse humped and tea-bagged...get pwned by a 12 year old...repeat
