I read there is an option for this that makes the blacks much deeper, and evertyhing else more vibrant. I run over component, so I don't think it's going to affect me.

Ok I'm loving this Download Off/Background feature. You have to set it to "Enabled" in the "Auto off" menu in "Console settings". I just set up 3 game demo downloads, I turned the 360 off, and now I'm going to bed. :D

I can tell it's still on and downloading but it's not all the way on.

Since I have one person I chat with on MSN Messenger I use Trillian so I don't have to run a whole other program for this one person. I may have to populate my list a bit more since this feature came out. It'll be a nice excuse for me to get that slick keyboard add-on.

Why did you turn the 360 off? I thought that setting turned off the 360 for you after your downloads completed. :hscratch:

Michael Corvin 05-09-07 12:34 PM

I'm pretty sure that it puts it into a low power standby mode while it downloads then shuts off completely when that is done.

edstein 05-09-07 12:46 PM

So, if I don't have anything in my cue to download then it will shut off right away?

Michael Corvin 05-09-07 12:53 PM

I guess that's how it works.

Interesting article on the VGA upgrade with sample pics: http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=7216

I definitely noticed a difference on my monitor.

Awesome! When I get my 360, I had always planned on VGA except for this problem. The HDMI on the Elite was going to be a nice replacement. If this really solves the problem by giving control to the user, I'll be fine either way now (if the HDMI dies with the "limited" black Elite).

Just as well since I'm out of HDMI inputs on my TV anyway but I have an open VGA.

ChrisHicks 05-09-07 02:10 PM

well the update just gave me the 3 red rings.

KurrptSenate 05-09-07 02:19 PM

no friggin way!!!!!

my condolensces :(

ChrisHicks 05-09-07 03:32 PM

now I have to figure out what to do here. it is a launch system so even the MS extended warrantee has expired, correct? I just bought an Elite but I haven't hooked it up yet(I wasn't sure if I wanted to keep it yet) so I do have a backup system. I was thinking about trying to sell my premium but if I have to possibly pay 130.00(number I've seen in numorous posts while searching for my error code) that will definately eat into any small profit I could have possibly made on it.

KurrptSenate 05-09-07 03:40 PM

yea, definitely

the elites are basically going for retail on ebay anyway, so I don't think that would help you much either.

i'm sure most here frown on the "switcheroo". I'd suggest contacting M$, and basically demand satisfaction.

Especially considering yours was bricked during an update

matome 05-09-07 03:40 PM

Is there a way to get unplayed XBLA demos off your machine? I hate them cluttering up my list, especially when I'll never play them again.

Yeah, choose the demo then choose delete instead of play.

You can also go to the system blade, memory, and delete them that way.

edstein 05-09-07 04:04 PM

I've read that this update does not update the HD-DVD drive. So disc read problems still exist. :(

Hmm... this isn't a case where the 360 just broke on its own, this is something where MS's update bricked your system... I'd at least contact them, since it does seem to be their fault, warranty or no warranty.

ChrisHicks 05-09-07 05:13 PM

I just got off the phone with MS. they stated that my console is out of the warranty period so if I decide to send it in it will cost me 139.90 for repairs. I was then told that if my console can not be repaired that I would just be sent another working unit(not a new console of course). so I can either do nothing and keep the dead box or pay 140.00 and hope I get my console back repaired and not some possible piece of junk that someone else sent in.

It's easy in the game list, just choose delete, or are you talking about out of your gamertag?

I believe that was supposed to be in this update as well. The ability to delete games off your gamertag. Low to zero pointers or games you are ashamed you put in the drive. Has anyone noticed the ability to do that yet?

1998Nole 05-09-07 06:59 PM

The Forza 2 demo is due out tonight at around 2am EST.

Yeah, that's what I meant, the gamertag. I shoulda been more specific. I hope that this update will give us that option!

I like the auto-shutoff for downloads. I have a crap 768kbps connection, so it would be nice to have the machine turnoff when I do overnight downloads of those gigabyte demos.

Really? You mean like Rentals and stuff like that? That would be cool! If you go to the xbox forums there's a HUGE thread in the "Wishes" area about this very issue. People really want to be able to delete games like that.

Yeah you put it into a low power/stanby mode. The fans still run and the on/off light slowly blinks once you line up the downloads and turn it off manually. Once the last dl is done it shuts all the way off.

I tried it tonight. Works good.
