Shit. Looks like Video is gone on my 360. It comes on fine and I can hear the boot up and sign in noises but no Video signal on my TV. I'm guessing...hoping..it's just the cable and nothing else.

EDIT: I'm getting a Coffin for my HD cables. Mother Fuckers just send me new cables. You know they cost you $1 to make in some Asian sweathouse so just send 'em to me.

Are you sure? I called with a video issue earlier in the year and they sent me the cables and told me to ship mine back in the same box. Which I did.

What do you mean? Maybe I used "coffin" wrong. She said they're sending a box to ship my cables back then they'll send me new ones. Maybe she just got it mixed up and the new ones will come with the box....

I may have withdrawls and I'm thinking of buying a cheap used one at Gamestop. Aren't they having an accersories sale?

I went and picked up some cables from Gamestop for $14. At least now I'll have an extra set to hold me over when the next MS HD component cables die on me.

Hmmmm, since I called them with a problem and now they're sending replacements, I wonder if they'll try to give me shit if they see me playing online while they ship new ones.

Why would they? When they told me it was a video problem, I bought some to test out the problem. Turns out it wasn't the cable. Took the cable back and got a refund.

Anyway, yes. They sent me cables in the coffin, when they arrived I sent my cables back.

Okay, for the first time I am now officially jealous of an Xbox 360 exclusive.

Me too. But then again, I am not into all this retro arcade style stuff. I loved Pac-man 25 years ago, but today it does not appeal to me at all. Even that link pixyjunket just posted with all the HD pics did absolutely nothing for me. I haven't bought a single XBLA game. I bought a Xbox360 to play next-gen games, not to play 20-30 year old games. There are only two XBLA games I would buy: the original 1989 Prince of Persia (which is being made) and Bad Dudes.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Worms
Marble Blast Ultra
Alien Hominid

Yup... bunch of 30-year old games.

What I mean is that the vast majority of those games, although they are new, have that old "retro arcade" feel to them.

No, they don't. (I take it you haven't played Mutant Storm Reloaded, Catan, or Small Arms)

But I get what you're saying, this entire generation has been lacking in that field though.

Forget all those. What about Roboblitz? You can't tell me that looks/feels retro.

To each their own, obviously, but a LOT of the arcade titles have more play/replay value than 80% of retail titles. And if you haven't bought any you really can't say otherwise.

I've easily spent 15-20+ hours on Worms, Zuma, Luxor 2, Uno, and a few others. And I'm sure there are a ton of people where that is a drop in the bucket for Geometry Wars. I'd say the average (non Midway) arcade title play time is probably about 10 hours for all the achievements. Tomb Raider, Condemned, Prey, and many others have about 6 hours of gameplay for your gaming dollar. So it is all how you perceive your gaming value.

I just see it as 15-20+ hours on a

I think it's fair to say it's split about 50/50 between new games and retro games.

Agreed

I'll take old games like Steet Fighter II or Castlevania SOTN or TMNT with co-op or whatever over a lot of 'next-gen' games, especially for $5-$10.

Actually, I am 32 years old, and I started gaming with the Atari 2600. I had a 2600, NES, SNES, N64, PS1, PS2, Xbox, and now a Xbox360.

As I said I loved those "retro" games years ago, but they no longer appeal to me at all now. I had several hundred NES/SNES games, but really none of them are enjoyable to me anymore. My tastes have changed. Your tastes have never changed at all over the years? I used to love old cheesy TV shows like '60s Batman, Knight Rider, The A-Team, etc. but those shows make me want to vomit now.

Almost every game I have seen on XBLA is either "retro arcade" style or is a puzzle/card/board game (like Uno, Catan, Luxor, Zume, etc.). I have no interest in those either.

I never heard of Roboblitz before. I googled it and it looks like a more modern 3D platformer I assume. That would be one of the few games I have seen that isn't either retro arcade or pizzle/card/board game based. I also like Castlevania: SOTN which is a modern game, but I already own the PS1 original, so I have no need to rebuy it. I am not a double dipper.

I do agree with your statement that all that really matters is that you have fun with the games you play. XBLA doesn't look that fun to me, so that is why I avoid it.

Fair enough. We are actually the same age. People's tastes change, I can appreciate that.

If you read any other gaming boards your post/stance is a very typical response when it comes to the XBLArcade titles amongst the younger crowd.

One last time though, you don't know until you try. Some may not look fun, but it never hurts to try the demos. That's what they're there for.

Mutant Storm Reloaded looks retro to me. It looks like those '80s shooters like Galaga, Space Invaders, etc.

Catan is a board game, so it probably isn't too fun to play alone. I am 100% a solo gamer.

Small Arms I admit does look modern. I heard it was like the Nintendo Smash Bros games which are best as multiplayer games. Since I am a solo gamer, I have no interest in it.

I used to read other gaming boards, but all the "PS2 rules!!!!11!! Xbox suxors!!!1!!" and "pwned" posts got old real fast. Nothing beats DVDTalk since most members here are not childish fanboys.

I understand that tastes change, but sometimes a good game is just a good game. That's like saying all classic movies suck because they're old and new movies are better. The Seven Samurai is still a kick ass movie, old or not. The same thing applies to some video games.

I understand that a good game/movie will always be a good game/movie, but if I have no interest in the genre/subject matter why would I want to ever play/watch it?

Good point. I download every demo, even things that I think I have no interest in. I am surprised occasionally.

Saves money when "must buys" aren't very good also.

I feel that. There was a developer recently who was spitting out some vile against 360 Achievements stating something like "with next gen graphics we don't need to rely on cheap high score gimmicks from 20 years ago." I've got a pretty good guess on what kind of projects he's probably been involved in, and they'll be forgotten in five years while people will probably still enjoy a game of Pac-Man or Galaga five years after his game is gone from the collective memory of disc-only bargain bins.
