Pokerus (PKRS) virus gives your pokemon double the effort points. Let's say you want to train your Roselia in special attack. For every pokemon you battle that gives you special attack EVs (effort values), you'd gain double that. A Gastly gives you 1 special attack (IIRC) EV for everytime you defeat it, so a pokemon with pokerus would gain 2 Evs.

Kirala evolves into Gallade if it's male with the Dawn Stone.
Roserade is also my favorite of the pokemon I've played through this game. Had it in my team since level 17, all the way through. Great grass pokemon.
(my current team, after transfers: Roserade, Froslass, Flareon, Kygore, Manectric, Dialga)

There's another possible way, which is to take it from Emerald/Ruby, have a pokemon hold it, and transfer it over via the Pal Park.

My shiny Roselia is a male...
Does anyone know what the greyed out shapes that appear under the pokemon picture when you look at the summary screen are for? They don't seem to do anything, but they are the same shapes that are on the poke watch application that helps you locate wild mobile legendary pokemon...
Thanks!

I just unwrapped Pearl and popped it in.
This is my first Pokémon adventure game, so wish me luck.
(My son got Diamond for his b-day a few days ago and he's got a head start on me... but he's owned and beat Emerald and Saphire, so he can be my go to guy if I get stuck!
)
I picked the Chimchar and called him "Monkeybum." The kids go a kick out of that.
Off to find the Red Gyrados (or whatever its called).

I received a shiny Palika over the GTS from someone in Japan. Didn't even realize it until my son pointed it out. I would love to catch a red Gyrados, but I have never ran across a shiny one in all my time playing this game.
I'm really getting back into this one. Hopefully they open up some of the event Pokemon for the US.

I chose Turtwig and named him Crush K.O., he's a level 10 already.

Ive been playing Pokemon fire red version and just about to go to the elite four or whatever they are called here. My pokemon here are almost identical to what I had in Diamond. I dont know why I prefer the water type so much. But my Blastoise is pretty unstoppable and cant wait to transfer him over to my Diamond. Plus my Zapdos and Articuno.

I'm 5 hours into it and have evolved Chimchar -> Monferno and Shinx -> Luxio and am on the verge of evolving Geodude and Zubat.
I finally turned off the attack animations to get things to go quicker.
My son has two badges and fought exclusively with the Turtwig which he's evolved into the one with the tree and the spikes (sorry, I don't remember names). Now he's giving the other critters some fight time.
Alrighty... I'm off to find a bike!

I'm having no problems disposing of any opponent thus far. Most are only taking 1-2 hits from my evolved Turtwig. My other Pokemon are all around level 10-11, so they aren't terrible, but they definitely need a few more levels. I just haven't liked any of the Pokemon I've found thus far.
Didn't know you could turn off the animations. I'm definitely going to have to do that.

I've been playing through Emerald to get more pokemon to take over to Diamond. Not too far in yet, but at least (once I play through this) will be able to take over the last of the starters from Emerald/Ruby that I don't already have in Diamond.

Alright, a few noob questions:
- Money: should I be saving it for something expensive down the line? or just spend it as I see fit on healers and poke balls?
- UKOWNs: should I be collecting them all? It is only one entry in the Pokedex but there are obviously a ton of variants. I've got about 10 so far.
- Eggs: Someone gave me one. What do I do with it? Carry it until it hatches? Use a special item on it?
- Contests: is there a point to these? I can't find the third gym leader to get my badge. Is it contest related?
- Starting Pokemon: is there a way to find these in the wild? I started with Turtwig but was hoping to find a Chimchar and the third one.

I actually cheated by using 2 copies of the game, and 2 DS consoles. start a new game, pick a starter pokemon, trade it to the other save file for anything. Start over. rinse and repeat

Hmm... I wonder if you can just do that with different save files on the same cartridge.
Thanks for the help.

You should be able to see the other ones by battling other trainers.
