The time left to complete the game from where you're at in it would most likely depend on how leveled up your characters are, if they're pretty well leveled or have learned most of the skill classes then you'll probably have a good chance of completing the game in 2-3 more hours.

I'm going off of memory but I think chapter 13 is only the final confrontation with Orphan (not 100% sure though, it's been awhile).

Re: FFXIII Thread of chocobo ranching

I just started this game this past week. I am hooked after a long layoff from final fantasy games. The last I played was 10.. but never got into it. 7 was the last one I finished.

I am about 20 hours in already.

The things I love about it.

+ Old Feel. Still feels like the games I grew up on.
+ Good story
+ incredibly good looking female characters! =)
+ graphics are amazing and smooth.
+ the complexity, yet simpleness of the chaining moves.

Things I don't like so much

- parts where they make you take control of the character in between the story movies that just have you running for a minute.

- the stupid names of things. L'Cie

I'm still in the same area and am having to fight a bunch of behemoths and those giant things that were in the open world area. I hope I'm close to the end. Surprisingly, it wasn't very hard to get back into the fighting system after over a year. That's probably because it's mostly a case of just hitting X for auto-battle...
I jumped back into this recently as well, but decided to start over (I didn't get nearly as far into it as you did originally). I'm finally in the open world area. I absolutely hate everything about this game, and it's a struggle to make myself pick up a controller and play it, but I do want to finish it just to be able to say I have. I've played every US-released Final Fantasy game since the first one on NES, and this is not Final Fantasy to me.

I might pick up XIII-2 eventually if they really have fixed a lot of the things that people dislike about XIII, but it won't be anytime soon.

Haven't they all been released in the US now?

Part III was the last holdout, it was released to DS a few years back.

Re: FFXIII Thread of chocobo ranching

I got the CE at Amazon. Worth it for the soundtrack alone.

IGN gave XIII-2 an 8.0, but the reviewer (who also reviewed XIII) called it better than the last one. The only weird thing is he gave the last game an 8.9.

I wouldn't be so sure about the soundtrack. One review I read said it was the worst of any FF game to the point where he had to mute one of the boss fights because of the background music.

This was matched at Amazon. The 360 version for some reason gets another 10 credit (at checkout) right now. The CE is sadly not eligible.

Re: FFXIII Thread of chocobo ranching

Played a bit of XIII-2 yesterday. So far (plot-wise) it's less like a sequel and more like an alternate timeline/new story with a similar cast and similar play mechanism. The opening also left me a little confused at first as to which new game I put in (FF or Soul Calibur).

I like that they included a synopsis of XIII so I could remember what the heck happened (and I never really finished it, I left it, like I usually do with FFs, at the open area, where I'm determined to do all the sidequests but never get around to it).

I like it so far. It can be a bit confusing but that's what the guide is for.

Is there really no way to change the music volume? It's so fucking loud.

Re: FFXIII Thread of chocobo ranching

I finally got to Orphan. Got him down to like 1mil HP and then he pulls out some cheap ass move and kills me instantly. And not the one that he opens with with the blade. boo. My guys are about as strong as they can get at this point. I give up for now. I'll try again when I have more time to try again.

Re: FFXIII Thread of chocobo ranching

Don't you just love bosses who pull out a special super-move you haven't seen yet after you've spent lots of time getting their health way down?

Almost as fun as a boss that regens most of its health once you've chipped it down.

Re: FFXIII Thread of chocobo ranching

Well.. after a few weeks of sparingly playing the game and continuously getting beat, I finally turned the tables and won. My final battle team was Hope, Fang and Lightning. The battle with the 2nd Orphan phase was pretty easy.

I guess the question now remains, do i go back and try to complete all the missions, or move onto the next game? I think I only have about 15-20 missions to go.

Re: FFXIII Thread of chocobo ranching

Finally got around to trying FF13 out. I have never played a FF game other than VII and I didn't even finish that one. Anyway, I thought I would give this one a shot for a reason that the game is getting bashed for. People feel the game is way to linear, and that actually appealed to me. I assume if I was a FF veteran that I would hate that but seeing this is only the second i have played that isn't an issue. I am playing on the 360 and it boggles the mind how beautiful this game is. God, the cut scenes are a sight to behold. I have only played it for 30 minutes but it was pretty fun. The combat was pretty face paced which surprised me. I have never been a fan of turn based rpgs

All the games from the PS2 platform onward have been really linear.

I was in the same boat, having only played VII when it first came out and never bothered to finish it and I loved XIII.

This is where I admit that 12 never made it out of my unplayed pile of shame.

And now it never will unless it gets remastered, as I'm not going back to PS2.

I also haven't touched 11 or 14, but I like to pretend that the MMO's don't exist
