Just a few other Miyamoto titles/franchises:
Kirby
Star Fox
Metroid Prime
Pikmen
F-Zero
Eternal Darkness
Mario Kart
Smash Brothers
And on and on...
Not to mention the fact that every controller innovation since the d-pad has been the product of Miyamoto/Nintendo.
I think they have some (just a bit) of credibility.

Good sequels, to good games, give you more of what you liked, and then some. I thought Ratchet and Clank 1-3 were superb examples of that.
Lots of companies do, admittedly, "churn out" barely revised sequels, which then somehow sell, and that's what I don't like.
As I said before, I haven't had a Nintendo console since the NES so I can't speak from experience, but while I certainly noticed Nintendo having lots of sequels/franchises, I don't think they're the main culprit of sequelitis by any means.
And if he's saying "we need more game types other than this genre and this genre", I agree as well. There's only so many sandbox games, or FPSes, or hyperviolent 3d action games people (read: me) can play/enjoy. But the bandwagon effect is not by any means limited to gaming.

I listened to Miyamoto's entire keynote, and I did not take away what that article summarized. My impression of what he said in that part of his speech was that each game iteration is an opportunity to capture and bring out the "fun" for the gamer, and this is what developers should key into when designing. He mentioned that when a game simply replicates itself in a direct sequel with no new experiences, or uses simple violence to accomplish the task of capturing the gamers interest the game fails at accomplishing his cheif design goal. He also mentioned this was true for him, not necessarily true for others.

This is why I only have 3 Wii friends in my address book (all DVDTalk people). I hate having to key in the 16 digit Wii # and then also the person's name.

Planned GameSpy driven Wii friend lists will be limited to each game, instead of being universal amongst every game.

As reported on Tuesday, GameSpy are assisting Nintendo in implementing Wi-Fi driven features into future Wii games.
Rather than provide one friend list applicable for all Wii online games though, as is the case with many of the other formats, Nintendo has decided to stick with the current set up: users still have to make their friends list for every game played.
A GameSpy representative has reported this in response to curiosity about the matchmaking services they plan to provide for Nintendo. "The Wii friend lists are game-specific," the spokesman reported to a Nintendo Wii blogger.
The representative states that "GameSpy's technology does allow for features that could span multiple games." However, Nintendo does not plan to integrate this ability to the Wii.
When asked why they wouldn't use this common gaming feature, Nintendo's response was an oddly vague. "Nintendo has taken this step as we believe it's the right thing to do."

If Metroid Prime 3 is going to be delayed to polish the game and improve the online experience, then by all means I encourage the big N to do so. To me, that game will be the first true demo of how powerful the Wii is all around (graphics, sound, online capabilities, control, etc.).
I still play my Wii at least 3-5 days per week and am still giddy when I turn it on. I just love streaming some music from my computer in the home theatre while making some dinner, then sitting down to eat and check out the news of the day and the weather for the rest of the week. Then I boot up Zelda or WiiSports or Wario Ware for some fun gaming, or some VC games to get some old school fun gaming in for the night. The weekends is where it's at for me with all of my friends playing WiiSports or Wario Ware and doing a little drinkin. I just wish we had some online multiplayer for some of the WiiSports games, but no biggie.
Man... I want to leave work and go play some darts on Wario Ware now

Is anyone planning on getting the Godfather game that is coming out next week? I'm trying to decide if it's worth 50 dollars. If anyone here does buy it, I'd be interested to read your comments.

It falls under the not worth $50 category for me since its a port, but it sounds like EA did a great job and IGN says its the best version of Godfather out there. I will definitely pick it up down the road. Nothing wrong with good solid ports.

the thing with excite bike is that you have to remember to lean back going over a jump, lean forward (front end pointing down) while in mid-air to get the most hang time, then level the bike out for a perfect landing
