Wii Play w/ Wii Remote in Stock @ Best Buy Stores?
Those interested in Wii Play w/ Wii Remote should check their local Best Buy. I just picked up a copy this afternoon at lunch time. They were not on the shelf yet, but they were in the process of security tagging them at Customer Service desk near the Wii games display area. I walked up and asked if they were ready for sale yet. The CS guy said sure, I'll check the price for you. I was out with the game within 5 minutes of seeing it sitting on the CS counter. So if you do not see them on shelf display, you may just want to ask.

I just got the following email from the free Wii points card people. I'm very impressed with this, and a little shocked that they'd go this far for those of us who completed the offer and have a Wii points card coming to us:
Hello Brent,
Your Wii Points Card has been shipped Today, you can
expect to recieve it in the mail in just a few days.
If you have any questions, feel free to reply to this email.
**** UPDATE Feb 12, 2007: ****
We've still had no luck getting ahold of any Wii Point cards. Last time we talked to
Nintendo they said there is still no ETA, but people can buy the points online using
a credit card on their console.
So instead of the Wii Points card, we're sending you a Visa gift card. You can use it
at any retailer you'd like (but not all online retailers, some use address verification
that won't work with gift cards). If you'd still like the Wii Points though, here's
what you need to do.
1) Go to the shopping channel on your Wii
2) Click Add Wii Points > Buy Wii Points with a credit card > 2000 > Visa
3) Enter the Visa gift card's number, expiration date and security code (the three-
digit number on the back)
4) For the billing information, use the address of the bank that we ordered the gift
cards from. City: Plymouth, State: MN, Zip: 55447, County: Hennipen.
That's it, you now have Wii Points you can use to purchase Virtual Console games.
Sorry again for the delay, we hoped we could have resolved this sooner.
Thank you,
~The LetsPlayWii.com Staff

What do I need an SD card for? I assume the Wii has some sort of internal memory, is that enough for games? Our digital camera uses memory stick, so unless there's an easy/cheap way to get pics from mem stick to pc to SD card, using the Photos channel is not a prime directive at this point.

Backing up VC games
Backing up/transfer game saves
View pictures
Watch videos
Custom mp3 soundtracks (so far that I know of just Excitetruck)
Nothing major just yet. It's also not necessary to have one, but you can usually find a cheap SD card online and at local stores so it's not a bad idea to have one just to have one in case.

The SD card can also be used to backup downloaded games (apparently?) and game saves.
I had an extra SD card and I just transfered some photos on to it from my computer in order to mess around with it on the photo channel. In the future, when I have friends with Wii, it may have more use -- to transfer save data, etc.

no worries, too much information is better than not enough
I saw buy.com has a noname 1GB for 30-30 MIR, I thought I might go ahead and get it 'just in case' though since I don't have an SD card reader, and don't have any RL friends with Wii, I'd mainly be using it for saves/backups.
I'm sure this has been answered, but backing up VC games isn't really necessary, is it? Did I read that you can always re-download them? (at least as long as they're stored on the Shop).

Backing up VC games isn't necessary as you said you can redownload them. But there's about 512mb of internal storage, half of which is used for the Wii's OS, so if you plan on downloading plenty of VC games in particular the more robust titles, space might be taken up quickly, though this may not be an issue just yet. If by chance you ever do reach that point, you can switch the games out via the SD card.
Also viewing videos can be done in the photo section. Haven't done it in awhile so I may be wrong, but you'll need to convert the video to a Wii usable format, Wii Video 9 can take care of that for you:

Yay! My Wii made it back today after two weeks in the repair shop. Apparently the disc drive did die, so they replaced it. Now I can finally start Zelda and Wario Ware!

Isn't there a ten dollar coupon floating around or did it expire already?

There's a new Channel up in the Wii Shop Channel. It's called the "Everybody Votes" channel and you can have your Mii's vote on worldwide poll questions. Wierd, but cool. Check it out under Wii Ware on the Wii Shop Channel.

Edit: my wife and I just voted on all available polls. It's goofy but fun. This could be an interesting tool for Nintendo to use later on to judge popular opinions of potential business decisions or game releases. Maybe we'll see a mix of the fun questions as well as more game-oriented survey questions.

Downloaded the new channel. Nothing too special. Nice little tool though for Nintendo to possibly get some feedback on things they may wanna know.
I'll probably check it out everyday just to see the questions.

Wii Play a little dissapointing.
Shooting:
pretty fun, but basically like the shooting unlockable game on WarioWare
Find Mii:
Fun the first time, cant possibly imagine it being fun the second.
Pose Mii:
Surprisingly amusing
Ping Pong:
Worthless... how hard would it have been to make it actually ping pong?
Laser Hockey:
Could be fun with a friend.
Tanks:
Awesome.
Ride the Cow?:
Weird. Shoulda been on Rayman.
Fishing:
Laughably bad.
Pool:
The most in depth of the 9. I dug it.
