Had a Wii party at a friend's house tonight, and 3 of us did the Wii Fitness test, and one of the friends ended up with a Wii Fitness Age of 77. We laughed hard at that one. The best part of watching 2 gals go toe-to-toe in boxing, and they really got into it, throwing haymakers after haymakers. Fun stuff.

I believe you can copy saved game data for VC games over to the SD cards, but I don't know how to do it as the couple of games I've downloaded don't allow saving.

No, you can copy the games to the flash card however you can't play them off there. In order to do this, you have to go into a different menu. You'll see a Wii Channels data option and from there you can copy the games. Only the save data shows up in on the main system memory page.

Huh, must have been an update since I tried as it wouldn't let me copy Gunstar Heroes when I tried a couple months ago.

Yeah I've been getting 15-18 hours out of my Nihms, so I can't complain. Just would be nice if they'd last until the batteries were actually dead, but that's a limitation of the technology.

The battery gauge reads by power being put out by the battery. Regular alkalines put out more when they are fresh and gradually get weaker, Nihms put out a slightly lower amount but stay stable until they are nearly dead. Thus when you put fresh Nihms in the battery meter in these type of devices thinks they're only 3/4's full or so since the beginning power output is lower than with a fresh alkaline which they are designed to read.

Guitar Hero is great news! I'm totally looking forward to that.

I don't get it. I finally get connected and the system update progress bar has been stuck at the beginning for the last 30 minutes. What am I doing wrong?

amped 02-11-07 07:38 PM

There's a chance you may have to change the channel on your router, check here for more info:

Man...playing Trauma Center for the first time (never played the DS version)...and this is a really, really cool game.

Also, thanks go to Michael Corvin for setting me up with the Classic Controller. Got in some good sessions on Super Mario World with it this weekend. Thanks!

How long should an initial update run? Mine has taken probably 15 minutes so far, and is about 2/3 of the way through. I'm, er, piggybacking on a neighbour's wireless, so I'm wondering if they saw me and disconnected. How bad is it if I turn off the Wii while it's updating? (I'm impatient when I don't see any progress, however slow).

DodgingCars 02-12-07 01:11 AM

I rented Trauma Center and while I like it, I wouldn't buy it... and probably won't play it again after I return the rental. I might buy it in the far future as a bargain bin title.

My biggest complaint with it is the story-line. I'm just not very interested. The gameplay is pretty fun though. I'd give it a 7/10.

Mine was slow, but I honestly can't remember how long it was... Seems like it was less than 15 minutes though.

I'm also "borrowing" a neighbor's wireless. :) I was going to hook it up via ethernet, but then I did a wi-fi scan and my neighbors internet was unlocked. I figure that the Wii barely connects to the internet for any major up/downloads, so I don't feel too bad.

Oh.. and my guess is that if your neigbor doesn't know how to lock their wireless, then they probably don't know that you're on it.

the first time you do it, it takes awhile, so i think that is normal.

Josh H 02-12-07 09:36 AM

Yeah, the updates now may be doing all of them at once (i.e. the 2 initial updates, plus the weather and news channels etc.) so that would take a pretty long time given each of those was a 3-5 minute update for me.

And the servers are always slow on these "launch" days when thousands of people have a new Wii they are trying to update at the same time.

I don't recall if we have heard this official date before, but...

Nintendo of America Requests the Pleasure of Your Company at the Marriage of

Peach
to
Bowser

on the 9th Day of April 2007

The nuptials will take place at the beginning of Super Paper Mario™, which will be available for Nintendo's hot new Wii™ home video game system. Those who wish to attend - or thwart - the ceremony will need to switch between 2-D and 3-D.

Been playing Excite Truck for the last couple of days and loving it. (Very Waverace-esque) However, I've noticed that the picture often looks like its not being displayed in progressive scan mode. (Yes my Wii is setup correctly, using component cables, etc.)

Has anyone with a larger television noticed this as well? Its more noticeable on some tracks then others, and most obvious by looking at the trucks themselves.

huh? 02-12-07 10:11 AM

Awesome.

PixyJunket 02-12-07 10:11 AM

I'll probably pick that one up on release.

emanon 02-12-07 10:22 AM

Just bought a Wii yesterday, and installed a spare 1GB SD card from my digital camera. However, the Wii tells me its unable to use the card (can't recall the exact message - I'm at work now). I didn't see anything on having to initialize the care w/the Wii, but was thinking this might be the case. Any thoughts/suggestions?

I have had nothing like that on my 50" plasma. I haven't even touched Zelda yet since I'm still playing Wii Tennis and Excite Truck.

I'll have to try and get a picture of it, but all the other games are fine, including Gamecube releases, so I'm confident its not the setup.

dick_grayson 02-12-07 10:47 AM

during which part of the game? (or specifically which track?) I can check when I get home

Any new rumblings on the possibility of online gaming with the Wii? A DVDTalk Wii bowling league would be really fun.

Michael Corvin 02-12-07 11:44 AM

 That does sound fun.

Wii bowling league??

I would so be there. I went real bowling last night for the first time in ages.

Bowled terrible though. Much worse than the 165 average that I had when I was in leagues.

tonyc3742 02-12-07 11:49 AM

I updated this morning, and it took less than 10 minutes. I don't know if it was partially done, or just faster today, but as long as it went, I'm fine. Found out there were 5 wireless networks near me, but only 2 weren't locked down.
Browsed the Mii thing and found my number, but haven't gone into the shop yet.
As much as Nintendo seems to push the online component with Mii-sharing and weather and news and store channels, you would think some sort of online gaming would be a no-brainer, even if just an easy to access leaderboard/chat room, or supporting turnbased/non realtime games like bowling if the wireless connectivity can't support something like an RTS.
