Edit: my wife and I just voted on all available polls. It's goofy but fun. This could be an interesting tool for Nintendo to use later on to judge popular opinions of potential business decisions or game releases. Maybe we'll see a mix of the fun questions as well as more game-oriented survey questions.

Yeah, I have a feeling that's where this might lead in the future too. I downloaded it. I may delete it since it's such a novelty thing.

Ah, so that's why my Wii was glowing yesterday.

I played Elebits through the tutorial, and failed at the first mission.

Canis Firebrand 02-14-07 09:18 AM

I was also wondering why my Wii was glowing yesterday. I turned it on and off quick to get rid of the glow.

I will have to check it out.

Elebits was a fun game. I need to go back and play more. I think I got to level 7 when I stopped playing.

You can disable that in the settings to prevent it in the future.

Canis Firebrand 02-14-07 09:35 AM

I lowered the glow from super bright to regular bright. I just didn't want to turn on the tv as it was glowing just as I was getting up in the morning. I don't mind the glow, I just had no time to check it. :)

kakihara1 02-14-07 09:45 AM

Mine is still glowing as I haven't taken the time to look. Glad to know why though. :)

Ditto. I hate when I wake up to see that blue glow knowing we're too rushed for time in the mornings for me to take 5 minutes to investigate it. Then I have to sit here all day knowing it is softly lighting my living room patiently waiting my attention. It makes me feel like a shitty parent.

Josh H 02-14-07 09:51 AM

Anyone else been having problems with getting black screens when trying to enter a channel? Sometimes it will be black for 30 secs or a minute and then load up, other times it will just stay black and never load up. The remote loses synch while they screen is black to (turns off basically) and will come back if it snaps out of it.

I get it mostly on network related channels like Mii, Weather, and News, but have got it occasionally after clicking on a Wii game or VC game.

I think it's probably network issues, as if I leave Wiiconnect 24 on and my wireless signal hasn't dropped out it doesn't happen as often. But always have problems if I've turned Wiiconnect24 off, or if it's been a long time since I used the Wii and had in in Wiiconnect24 (in which case the wireless would have dropped multiple times as ours isn't that stable).

And then that one day you decide to take the time to investigate only to find out it is a message about the remote strap recall.

jeffdsmith 02-14-07 10:09 AM

I know I'm splitting hairs here, but IIRC it wasn't a recall, rather a replacement. To my knowledge no product was ever pulled from the shelves. I bought several wiimotes weeks after the "replacement" began.

... and THEN you relaize you have had the replacement straps for 2 months already :)

Josh H 02-14-07 10:11 AM

Looks like it is indeed a network connection issue with the black screens when accessing channels.

http://www.wiierror.com/wii-black-screen.php

At least it seems a common problem (as it's on their unresolved list on the main page) and not an issue with my Wii.

I get this quite often.

Right when I got to bed last night the thing started glowing. That thing is bright!

The tip on the Wii error site seemed to work for me.

Turn the wii off, reset your router when its back up turn the Wii back on and you should be good to go.

Worked for me this morning as I was getting the black screens again, did that and it fixed. Still got a black screen, but only for like 2 or 3 seconds before loading the channel.

When I did an internet connection test, afterwards there was a fast downloading system update, not sure what it was for.

I downloaded the Vote channel too, seems pretty useless, may end up deleting it as it just seems like a waste of the 161 blocks.

KurrptSenate 02-14-07 12:12 PM

i wound up getting wii play today for the heck of it

they were all out of extra copies, but my manager friend sold me someone else's reserve

<_<

>_>

hahaha

Ocelot 02-14-07 12:14 PM

Vote channel can suck my balls, i'm not even gonna waste one block for it...

Oh, i decided to turn the 24 connect off, the Wii got some heats when i turned it on, not that bad, but still, i don't like it. It's a pain to turn the 24 connect on everytimes i wanna surf the net or check weather (news sucks), but i don't do that often, so it's okay with me.

One other thing, if you leave the game disc in the Wii and have the 24 connect thing on, the disc is hot! Not hot hot, but still, i don't like it. See, i'm kinda lazy to take out the disc knowning that i will play the game shortly. The power button on the Wiiromote is very handy.

Also, my friend told me that playing the Wii on the big screen is a differrent experience. As a matter of fact, he said the Wii is "designed" to be used on the big screens. He played Wii sport on my 56" DLP, overall experience? He was impressed with the little machine.

Ocelot 02-14-07 12:18 PM

Personally, i never play the Wii on a smaller screen, so i can't comment. However, i saw a YouTube video with the guy playing Wii on a small "traditional" TV. the guy is enjoying the Wii, but still, the bowling pins are micro sized, i definitely don't think it's that fun...

You don't have to turn it off in the menu. You can leave it on there, and instead of using the Remote power button, or tapping the power button on the Wii, hold the power button on the Wii down until it turns off. The light will be red and the system is "off" and Wiiconnect 24 is not running.

You can't put it in this mode with the remote power button though, you must hold down the power button on the console itself.

Walked into Wal-mart today on a complete whim and there in electronics they had just started unpacking the Wiis. Half of the 12 were gone immediately by people standing around and I said to hell with it and bought one too.

I had grabbed Wii Play yesterday so looks like I will be busy with this for awhile.

I just hope it works okay. With my luck it won't connect to my router or something.

Josh H 02-14-07 02:01 PM

Just be sure to switch the router to channel 1 or 11 before even bothering with it.

Wow, I had random luck with Wiisports today. Hadn't played Wiisports (or anything on the Wii) in over a month, turned it on today to check out the new channel and try to fix the error above and decided to fireup Wiisports for a bit.

On my first try at the home run derby I went 10 for 10 with several out of the parks and got the platinum medal. I'd spent a good 3 or 4 hours a couple months ago off and on trying to get 10 out of 10.
