2 wireless Belkin routers that support WDS bridging. One of them cost me -~$17 or so, the other cost me about $40.
The router in the audio rack just bridges the physical wireless network connections the the other wireless router, where my PCs and the cable modem are hooked up.
Here's a good picture/explanation:

Some routers you can bridge, some do wds bridging, some don't. We can help if you need to find some that work.
The best part is, you can hook up multiple consoles that way.

The whole process takes no longer than 25 seconds.

For your purposes, I'd get a 360.
But if you do a ton of travelling, I'd easily pick the PSP. I take mine on every trip I take and I don't think I could do without it (especially being away for long periods of time). It's not only a video game machine, but an mp3 player, web browser (for basic stuff), and if you rip DVDs to the memory stick, a DVD player.

get the 360 the psp is worthless, 90% of the games are crap, most are ps2 ports and aren't that good due to only having one analog stick. Theres very few interesting games coming out besides metal Gear solid. The I havent touched mine in a year probably.

So wrt the 360...
1) Are they still having the over heating problems? Looking around on ratings/comments sites I see some people are still complaining about as recently as a couple of months ago.
2) Does anyone know if they plan on coming out w/ a version that has the HD-DVD built in as opposed to an external module?

My 360 was manufactured in October, I played Call of Duty 3 for 3 hours this morning, left it on for another 2 hours and it was a little warm on the back but the rest of it and the power brick were cool to the touch.

I have had a PSP for over a year and have used it like 4 times.
It's just not a good system. It's clunky, non-ergonomic, and just
not very fun to use. And forget using it as a media player.
The Xbox 360 on the other hand, has impressed me far more than
I expected. I'm pretty anti-Microsoft, but I have to admit they did
a great job with the 360 (QC issues notwithstanding) I've been having
way more fun with my 360 than I ever thought...it's awesome.
Needless to say I highly recommend the 360. If you want to spend
less, than get the Wii, if you can find one. Forget the PSP.
