Plus there are some exclusive [afaik] PSP games that look really interesting (although I've never have a chance to use one so I'm not entirely sure how playable they would be...); Battlezone, Killzone, ST: Tactical Assault, SW: Lethal Alliance, LotR: Tactics, Warhammer: Battle for Atluma are the ones that come to mind off hand.

Overall I think I have decided to go w/ the 360 (if I decide to do anything, they're still pretty expensive [esp the games ]). Thanks everyone... keep the opinions coming though if you have them.
Don't rely on Gamefly for giving you details on each system. The PSP has, at best, about a dozen good titles. The 360 has at least twice that plus a lot of decent NEW $5-$10 arcade titles (not counting Pacman, Dig Dug, etc.).

That requires the "live" thing though right? I don't plan on getting that as I don't do much online gaming.

As long as you have a broadband connection you get a free silver account which lets you download demos, movie trailers, rent tv shows and movies, as well as buy arcade games and play them. The restriction is a silver account doesn't allow you to play online with others.

That being said, the 50$ a year for Live gold has been the best money i have ever spent. By now i have a big friends list of good people to play with so most of the time i'm not even playing with random people online. I'm hooking up with people from here or fellow 8BB members for anything from shooters to casual relaxed games of Uno. The Live service has really drawn me back into gaming and made it awesome again.

You should get the XBox Live. The short version: there's a lot of cool shit on XBox Live.

Also keep in mind that when you first make a silver account for free they normally give you a month of free Gold access so you would be able to check out gaming online - just make sure you get in some games with friends - not random asshats.

exactly...

after that free month, you can sign up a new name, and get another free month. Rinse and repeat, and you pay nothing for live service

Sheer number of games doesn't matter. There's more highly reviewed games on the 360 than PSP for sure, regardless of the sheer number of games. 95% of the PSP library is garbage, and most of the other 5% are PS2 ports and spinoffs that are good--but again are better played on the PS2 on a nice TV.

Or you can just pay the whole $4 a month it costs not to mess with that hassle.

yea, i already paid for the entire year.

I found it out when I wanted to play Gears of War online with my brother. For some reason, it wouldn't allow him to sign on as a guest, and it wouldn't let him use any of my other, non-live handles.

its a temp account for playing 2 players online. Who would want to pay for 2 accounts, and hardly ever use the other one? Screw that

The biggest problem/limitation of getting into live is the machine is no where near the network connections (different floors) so it would require the investment in a wireless setup too. The silver might be nice to poke around a bit and see what's available, but the ~$100 "buy in" charge for the wireless module puts it way down on the priority list

This is true, I guess I should have used a different phrase than "better overall selection"... I speaking mainly to quantity/number of options/things to try, not quality

ladies and gentlemen, there you have it. The exact reason why the PS2 walked away with a win last gen.

Mine's on a different floor too, but all I do (since I'm not into online gaming either) is when I want to get an update or download a demo, I just unplug my router upstairs, and bring it down and plug it straight into the 360 (which comes with it's own ethernet cable) whenever I want to go on live and get stuff. The whole process takes no longer than 25 seconds.

I have both...I bought a PSP awhile back and sold it because I wasn't impressed with the games. Just this past week, I bought another to go along with my new 4gb memory stick. I've been ripping some of my dvds to watch them while I'm on the go and I'm much happier with it now. I'm still not impressed with the games (buuut, the new Metal Gear Solid and Killzone games look promising).

I love my Xbox 360. I've owned just about every major console since the late 80's and the 360 is by far my favorite. Game wise, you can't go wrong with it.

Neither as there hasn't been a single game I wanted to play on it besides Lumines.

My brother has one, as do a couple of friends, so I've played the PSP quite a lot, and yet to have an enjoyable experience on the 10 or so different games I've tried.

But nice try playing they you have to own a console to know the game library card though.

Wow. A lot of people here with both the 360 and PSP! Guess Sony and MS aren't mutually exclusive!

Anyway, I can confirm what most people are saying: go for the 360.

There's no reason to buy the 1st party for $100, when a 3rd party pc ethernet -> wireless should do you just fine. I'm sure someone else can throw out an approx price for this, but it should be much less than $100.

It's not nearly as bad as this serious question: Warm water is a carcinogen?
