destructoid.com? Never heard of it. Reading that, it looks like an anti-Sony fanboy wrote it. I don't think it is too reliable. I would wait for a more reliable site like Gamespot or IGN to report it.

I think destructoid is one of the bigger blog sites. Up there with Joystiq and Kotaku. So it isn't out of the realm of possibility.

That site look real reliable...

Even if MGS does come out on the 360, this is one of those games that was designed from the ground up to work on the PS3, so I'd still get the PS3 version. And I highly doubt the content will be significantly different or more numerous on the 360, either.

Yeah, but I think the point is that Sony is counting on MGS4 to sell PS3s. If people know it's coming to the 360 too -- a $200 cheaper system... then why buy a PS3? For Home and Little Big Planet?

Unless Sony pays Konami to keep MGS4 exclusive, then Konami does not have to do what Sony wants. Konami will do what Konami wants.

Lair
Heavenly Sword
Uncharted
the inevitable God of War 3

There are some good PS3 exclusives left.

No doubt, but are they worth a $200-350 premium?

No but then again no game is worth that, not even MGS4 or GTA4. This is just the first year of the PS3. More games will come in time. The first year is always slow for any console.

And on top of that, the longer you wait, the cheaper the system will eventually become.

Yup. That is what I am doing. I will not pay $600 for a PS3, but I will pay $400. By the time it reaches that price point, there should be many quality games out. Sure the PS3 is a bad buy right now (unless you are into Bluray movies) but it won't always be that way.

but what is baffling is that there are a ton of people that won't even pay $400 for a system. $300 last gen was pushing it for a lot of folks. I don't see a 50% price cut anytime soon. Sony built last gen on a cheap machine with tons of excusives and a huge library. Neither of which the PS3 has going for it. $200 (and under) guaranteed you quite a lot of gaming potential on the PS2.

So I don't see Sony making any inroads until they are at least at $400, and even then I think it will still be a hard sell even if MGS is exclusive.

Why is it baffling that people won't pay $400 for a system? When you factor in the cost of ancillary products and the $60 a pop games, that's not chump change. Many of us are hardcore gamers and some of us still won't pay $400 for a system. Some people don't think $400+ is a worthwhile expenditure for entertainment.

I won't pay $400 for a gaming system precisely for that reason ($400 quickly becomes $500 with an extra controller and game). If I was into Blu-Ray, I could see spending $400 though.

Right now the PS3's only value to me is as a Blu-ray player. I only own Resistance thus far (although I got Spider-Man 3 on PS3 to review, I ended up getting the 360 version due to the framerate issues on the PS3 version), but I've got tons and tons of Blu-ray discs.

People who are really unwilling to spend $400, I can't blame them because it is a bit pricey, but these things are basically PC's built just for gaming, they're pretty ace. I have a 360, and it was worth every penny.

Exactly. I like gaming. But I don't like it enough to shell out $400 for a console when it's not even my top hobby these days.

Console prices keep going up they'll price me right out of gaming by next gen. As it is I plan on not buying stuff at launch anymore and spending the first two or three years of new gens catching up on dirt cheap games from the prior gen that I missed out on and then getting into the new gen 1/2 way through or so after a price drop or two.

Yup, it's pretty easy to understand why $400 is considered to be to big of a wad of cash to spend. Gaming for most people isn't worth that sort of expenditure.

Sorry, I didn't mean it was baffling that people wouldn't spend $400, I meant it more in the way of people won't pay that, there is no way they will pay $500 or even $600. I just worded the sentence wrong. I meant that even a $200 price cut is in no way a sure fire thing for Sony.

I was hesitant about my $400 360 purchase, but haven't regretted it at all.

Hey Guys, this last page has not mentioned MGS at all - which is the topic of the thread, NOT Sony's pricing and how you'll act when prices drop. Please get back on topic.

The discussion just branched off a bit to what possibly losing MGS4 as an exclusive meant to the PS3, given its off to a slow start and the price tag is undoubtedly a big reason for that.

http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/10/ko...ther-consoles/

Konami executive Kazumi Kitaue, head of Konami North America and European ops, dropped a bombshell today saying that Metal Gear Solid 4 may move to other consoles in an attempt to recoup development costs. He also said the PS3 price drop may not turn the ship around. The natural assumption, given the console hardware technology, is that Metal Gear Solid 4 will see its day on the Xbox 360, destroying one of the final feathers in Sony's hat of exclusives.

In regards to the PS3 price cut, Kitaue unleashes the backhand with quickness. "I don't expect a substantial impact ... with $500, you can buy a person computer," Kitaue told Reuters. It's been surprising to see the mainstream media pick up on the $100 price drop without acknowledging that there is a new "better" model at the same price which caused all the calls for a price drop in the first place.

But for gamers, the first acknowledgment that Metal Gear Solid might find its way to other consoles is what's really going to shake things up. Kitaue says, "Since Metal Gear Solid was born for the PlayStation, we would like to keep it a PlayStation game. But we might have to take some steps." Whether those steps are announced this week or if this is some last ditch effort by Konami to force Sony to pony up exclusivity cash, which they say they do not do, is worth wondering about. If MGS goes to the Xbox 360 ... well, all eyes will be on Final Fantasy XIII as the last famous third-party man standing.
