If the PS3 tech is really so much better than the 360, then why was there no launch game that was above what the 360 can do? Even the best PS3 game, MGS4, is not noticeably better than what the 360 can do.
Because it was Sony that was spreading that garbage about the PS3 being more powerful. The fact is these two systems are so close in power that any difference in graphics will be so negligible as to not be worth talking about. Both have 512 megs of RAM. RAM runs at the same speed on both. CPUs on both run at the same speed. The funny thing is graphically, Gears of War slaughters anything on the PS3, including Resistance.

As for MGS4, it's not even close to Gears graphically. Have you seen the gameplay screens and footage? It does not look as good as those trailers Konami kept releasing. Case in point!

Now, we'll see how it looks when it's finished.

Michael is right. The so-called generation argument doesn't hold in Sony's favor. The system was delayed twice by a year. As he said, all of those launch games and other games had an extra year of development. Gears is also not a second generation game. It was Epic's first go at the system. That has as much to do with generation as when the game is released.

basically, what it is saying that, instead of more people going out and buying more systems, the people that already own the system are just buying more games.
The only problem with that is people are buying the console every single month to the tune of a quarter million every month, give or take. That will probably increase substantially in November and December, due to great games, lower price, shortage of other systems, plus it being the holidays. When Halo 3 hits, look out.

I just played the trial, and it feels a lot like Super Smash Brothers. I wasn't a huge fan of that game, so I don't know if I'll pick this up or not, but it looks like a blast for multiplayer, so maybe the online play will hook me.

A quarter million per month is pretty bad. At that rate it will take Microsoft over three years to get to 10 million. They have yet to sell more than 500,000 any month. They need to get a few months where the console sells a million units. I hope this is happening this holiday, but I doubt it.

They are already at 6 million sold. That was as of last month or so. They'll likely sell a few million for Christmas since it's available. So, they'll hit 10 million sometime in the 1st half of next year.

First off, I disagree with that statement. Second, the game is still a year + away from release. It will be the best looking game of all-time when it's released. Every other MGS game since the PSX version has been, so I don't expect this to be any different.

Game Informer magazine this month said that they have only sold 2.5 million.

The video market place is awesome, I love the layout, the backgrounds changing. I love how they have full seasons of these shows. Fantastic. but I wish the prices were alittle cheaper, I wish the could of done the tv shows cheaper, or even free but maybe make you watch acouple advertisments. I wouldnt care if it was free.

I'm not sure what they are talking about.

http://www.gamepro.com/news.cfm?article_id=86890

The company has projected it will sell 10 million consoles by 2007. By the end of September, Microsoft said it sold 6 million worldwide, which means it must sell 4 million in the last three months of the year.
Edited to add: Though that year is incorrect. It should be 2006.

According to this website the 360 has sold 7.3 million.

I don't know where they get their numbers, but the PS3 sales (88,000 in Japan, 175-200,000 in NA) seem about right, as well as the Wii totals

If that website is legit, then it will be a good source of future
information.

Edited to add: And while they are at it, they should include the DS & PSP.

And I'm pretty sure that Microsoft isn't too worried about those sales figures for the XBox 360. They will probably wait until early next year to lower the price of the 360, now that they are supposedly making $75 per unit sold.

I don't think they will reach 10 million by the end of 2006, but probably the early months of 2007.

There are a lot of people that never buy a console until at least the first price drop. I am sure once the Xbox360 gets its first price drop, the sales will increase.

That's perhaps a very good point.

Even a $20 price drop might help convince holiday shoppers (who can't find a PS3) to make the 360 plunge.

Of course, MS better make an announcement NOW if they want to take advantage of the Christmas shopping season.

So with this new feature on the Marketplace of d/l movies and TV shows, do you actually d/l them to your hard drive or is it streamed? If it's streamed, can you only watch it once? Can you fast forward, rewind, etc?

There downloaded to your hard drive, Movies are rentals for 2wks or 24hours which ever comes first. Tv shows you can keep, if you download the HD version of a show you also get the SD version. Don't know about the ff and rewind, but I wouldn't see why not.

I do not know about the Moon, but here on earth, 24 hours always comes before 2 weeks.

I think what he is saying is that you can watch it for the first 24 hours and if you don't, then it expires after 2 weeks.
