I played for 4.5 hours today, which is a LONG session for me. I'm about to start the third dungeon and I'm at 21+ hours. I think I remember someone saying that this is the point when it really gets good. It was hard for me to stop playing today, so I guess that's a sign that I'm hooked.

I LOVE this game (but hate that the Wii tells me that I played for over 6 hours straight yesterday!)

i've put in about 20 hours into the gamecube version. I'm stuck at the part
Spoiler:
where you escort the wagon and it's so frustrating! how am i supposed to fend off the guys attacking the wagon, blow whirlwind on the wagon, kill the bird AND steer my horse all at the same time?!? I can see this being easier on a wii with the easy aiming for the bow and arrow to take out the birds but sweet jesus its so frustrating with the gamecube controller.

Okay, this I found fairly easy. Focus on knocking those birds out of the sky as they seem to cause the wagon to veer off the road. Watch the fire level and put it out with the boomerang if it gets too far along. I did the spin attack to take out most of the archers and used some arrows. Just get those birds out of the way as quick as you can. Then focus on the archers. You only need to boomerang the wagon when the fire is over halfway along.

The part that had me calling shenanigans was all the crap you have to go through to get the Master Sword.
Spoiler:
I died a couple of times on the last part with the guy with the pipe (really had trouble hitting him) and after all that frustration I then have to solve some cheap freaking puzzle. Thanks Nintendo for reusing some crap puzzle from a Resident Evil game.

Anyway that is done and I've taken a break for the day. First three dungeons were very impressive though.

To tell the truth, I think the only thing you really need to worry about there are the birds. One will drop a bomb right along the path you need to go to escape, so when the carriage is getting close to that path(you'll know which path it is because it's not grassy), shoot the bird with an arrow and there will be no bomb dropped to scare the horse. Defeating the archers are no problem, really. This segment still annoyed me to no end though.

Just got done playing for an hour, although it felt like about 10 minutes.
Spoiler:
Just got the Clawshot at the Lakebed Temple. I really wish the bosses and mini-bosses were hard, but oh well. This one might have been the easiest of all. Kill the babies, move out of way of fat momma, and slice it's tongue, repeat x3. Yawn. Oh well. So far the water temple isn't too bad.

Well, I'm finished with the game, so I can go out now. I'd say TP is the definition of a flawed masterpiece: tons of terrific stuff, but full of tiny flaws and design decisions that hold the experience back - some of which have been around since the original, and more that were added when the series went 3D.

Anyway, it's a helluva game; when TP was going good, it was as good as anything. I do hope Nintendo is serious about taking the series in a new direction, though.

Just beat the Wii version, and this is the first Zelda game I've actually beaten.

OMG... what a great game! What have I been missing?

I can now resume a semi-normal life... that thing has consumed it for the last couple weeks.

This is my first Zelda game. I'm like 15 minutes into it and I fucking hate this game. How am I supposed to know what I should do next? I have some lady whining about a cat, some guy whining about a bee's nest.

Demontooth:

Bear with it a bit... it starts off a bit slow, but it will start rolling soon. Took me a while to figure out the start of it. Just walk around and talk to everyone... it'll dawn on you sooner or later.

Watching my wife play the final dungeon...

Spoiler:
Hyrule Castle is fucking awesome! I LOVE the homage to SNES's A Link to the Past...with the music, and the blue carpet/curtains. Just told my wife it'd be fucking cool as hell if the mini-boss here was Aghanim, or whatever his name was.

I'm finished collecting the mirror shards. I've got to say, this Zelda is phenomenal. They all are, though. I'm going to be sad when this ends.

Just got the
Spoiler:
spinner. Took a break from dungeon raids after the third one, and just went looking for bugs, poes, and went fishing. The game really does get better after everything opens up.

I can't believe that nobody has made any videos with a rap song using footage with Link and the fourth dungeon item. Or maybe there are videos and I don't know it.

What the heck, I'll update everyone on my progress as well. My total play time is listed at 30 hours and 39 minutes, and I just got through the 3rd dungeon. This is the most "complete" game in recent memory, in terms of places to go and things to do, and without a doubt the best game of last year, and could end up as the best game of all time in my eyes.

You never go more than a few hours without something new being tossed your way, and it's a lot of fun to just screw around doing whatever, not even worrying about the storyline. Up to this point, I've felt like the game was somewhat pushing you along, but at this point I feel like the game loosens it's grip on you, giving you even more freedom.

I've only used a guide (GameFAQs) once, and that was when you had to
Spoiler:
do the puzzle to get to the Master Sword
. I just didn't want to put up with that, I wanted to get on with it already.

And not to start going too overboard with Wii-praise, I'll say this. I don't see why Nintendo will ever produce another Zelda game without using the Wii type of controls. It's a perfect feel, and I love it. These controls can only get better from here on out, so I say bring on more games like this for the Wii. I can't imagine playing TP without the Wii controls.

Also, my favorite cutscene so far, other than nostalgic stuff, would have to be right after the 3rd dungeon:

Spoiler:
The scene where Zant grabs Midna, lowers the bottom of his mask and saying, "I need you."

Now that was awesome.

I'm currently in the Temple of Time and I'm around the 30 hour mark. I'm definitely enjoying it, but honestly find the controls on the GameCube excellent. Guess I will have to play this again on the Wii at some point so I can find out how much better it is to use the wiimote.

Really like how they pull together the major dramatic moments in the game, but it also makes you wish for voice acting.

This might seem like a stupid question, but here it goes anyway. I was checking out http://thehylia.com and watched part of a video speed-run for TP, what I've already done before, and I noticed that it's the mirror image of what I'm currently playing. What is up with that exactly?

Ah, I didn't know that they didn't change the GC version to be like that as well, thanks.

Well, here is my favorite hidden heart piece so far:

Spoiler:
I'm taking some time to fish right now, and I noticed a heart piece on that cliff in the middle of the lake. I started rowing around it to see where I could climb up on it to get it after I finish fishing, then decided to try and just cast my lure up there and try to hook it. I didn't think it would actually work, but it turns out that it did.

I wish they had left Link a lefty (and the world the right way) in the Wii version myself. The argument that we needed a right-handed hero for all the right-handed people doesn't make sense to me since the sword movements are nothing more than quick jerks of the control and could easily be done with either hand.

I don't understand why people care if he's a lefty or a righty. Seems like a completely insignificant detail to me.

So I still hate this game but I got to the part where you have to fish, my wife wants to play the fishing part so I let her fish, 6 hours later she finally stops playing. At least I don't feel guilty about not finishing this game because she loves it.

Dude, you haven't even scratched the surface of this game. Once you finally get to get out of Link's stupid town, the game gets way better.

We all know that in every game it is a different "Link." The Wii one just happens to have the recessive right-handed gene.

Why do some people care if Han shot first? I am a Zelda nerd and my wife and I discuss details, story, etc. Link being a lefty is just one of the tried and true aspects of the character to me.
