Hey, check out the video preview narrated by Major Nelson on Xbox.com: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/marketplace/moviestv.htm

- The web link also lists Studio 60, Friends and West Wing as downloadable shows.

- From the video, it looks like other TV shows may include Venture Bros., Babylon 5, NCIS

- CSI NY was priced at 240 points ($3) Babylon 5 episode priced at 320 points ($4)

- Other movies may include Lethal Weapon 4, Cradle to the Grave, Analyze This, and a Albert Brooks comedy special.

Personally, I think the selection sucks at this point. But I'm sure it will get better if more networks / studios join up.

RichC2 11-06-06 10:03 PM

20gb just isn't enough space.

xmiyux 11-06-06 10:14 PM

Agreed, if i buy the thing i want to be able to save a permanent copy somewhere other than on a tiny hard drive on my 360.

It would be cool if they would put episodes up for sale shortly after they aired. I would pay weekly to keep up with a few shows i started when they came out on DVD.

Mopower 11-06-06 10:15 PM

Hopefully they will release an update that will enable external drives. I hope. :(

So is this just what MS needs to win some ground in Japan, a total copy of the RPG genre with no real innovation?

Or am I missing something here? Is this just another RPG clone or is there something special about this one?

While the JRPG doesn't really make enormous leaps and bounds in terms of gameplay evolution, this game (and Lost Oddyssey) is a decently big deal for Xbox 360 in terms of the Japanese market. It's not a Final Fantasy ripoff, though it is connected to FF...it's being made by Sakguchi, who was one of the top people involved in directing and producing the Final Fantasy series. He kind of parted ways with Square after he directed the FF movie which, well, tanked.

Nonetheless, much of the hype around this game and Lost Oddessey has to do with who's making it. Sakaguchi and his MIstwalker company are pretty much some of the most respected gamemakers in this genre and in the Japanese gaming world. Not to mention, for those into the genre, they look pretty damn good.

Fandango 11-06-06 10:41 PM

You can be pretty sure MS will be releasing a larger HD.

I guess I'll stick this here also.

KICK ASS!

Brent L 11-06-06 11:02 PM

I can't wait to give the online co-op a go through the main game after I beat it on single player.

Flay 11-06-06 11:35 PM

GRAW chapter 2 has been reduced in price by half (1200 points to 600 points) on Xbox Live for those still playing that game.

RichC2 11-06-06 11:42 PM

Guess that reflects the price drop ($39.99), maybe not :).

That GoW video looks great.

discostu1337 11-06-06 11:57 PM

Anyone else think PAYING for the TV shows is ridiculous? I could see renting HD movies, but the TV shows should all be free with a Gold membership....You can just tivo/dvr that crap for free....why on earth would I blow $3 to watch an episode of CSI??

RichC2 11-07-06 12:30 AM

You'd blow $3 to watch an episode of CSI because you missed it and don't have a DVR (I can't afford cable right now, and theres really no point in owning one. But then, I don't like CSI so I wouldn't personally be getting an episode of it.). And didn't feel like spending the same money on purchasing it from iTunes. That or the person w/ the DVR is too lazy to FF through commercials and wants an uninterrupted copy.

I don't disagree with paying, I do think it's about $1 too much though ($1.99 would be more fitting.)

It's no different than purchasing it over the net regularly. Gold is a cheap service (what is it, like $4 a month?), so there's no way it'd be free that way, and it is a nice option to have on a console -- being able to watch HD-quality copies of TV shows. So no, don't find it ridiculous at all, and find it a nice option to have. Hopefully we'll be able to use MS Points :). That all said, that's a terrible line up.

Gears of War GameSpot Video Review!

There's no score given, but the reviewer doesn't say anything bad about the game at all really and ends up saying that if you like action games of any sort at all, then this is the game to own this holiday season.

I am. So this is cool. But I'm in no hurry to get MS points so it can wait. :D

Yeah, I don't have cable or a TIVO and if I can't catch certain shows like Real World or any other MTV/vh1 shows at work where we have cable, I go to there site and watch whole eps for FREE. I wonder when this will go away? What with CBS and others starting to charge for per ep downloading....

movieking 11-07-06 07:46 AM

No doubt that these shows and movies will not be available in Canada. :(

When I click on the link I cannot find the video review, but they do have a score up now of 9.6

RichC2 11-07-06 09:05 AM

Heads up for those that import - both F.E.A.R. and CoD3 are importable, and cost $39.90 and $44.90 respectively. (@ Play-asia at least.)

BBEANLPHIE 11-07-06 09:28 AM

Gears of war review up at ign.

s}{ammer 11-07-06 10:40 AM

Both Gears of War and COD3 look so good. Which one is THE one to get if you are only get one right now? Which one do you guys all plan on getting? I am leaning towards GOW since I still need to get a copy of COD2 and finish it.

BBEANLPHIE 11-07-06 10:43 AM

Any reviews for COD 3 yet?

thanks for the heads-up. I'll probably pick this up now.

Good news on the GRAW Ch 2 content, but bad timing. Too much stuff coming out this month as it is. As much as I'd love to play Ch 2, I don't know when I'd ever find the time to.

Looks like more people are getting GoW.

DJ_Longfellow 11-07-06 11:15 AM

Wow, I may have to get the GRAW 2 content now....I was wondering if MS would reduce the points on some items.

Also, anyone pick up the HD-DVD this week? Not sure when to expect it in B&M stores (Best Buy anyone?)

s}{ammer 11-07-06 11:18 AM

KG, thanks for the link. You would think I would know about searching before posting by now :) That pretty much seals it for me, I guess I am buying GOW and renting COD3 first. :)

I might have to get that content too. I wanna finish that game bad but there are so many great games on 360. Hell, I even really enjoy totemball so far. I guess I am the only one who does, but it is fun.

fumanstan 11-07-06 12:21 PM

Impressive reviews for Gears. I'm glad to see it live up to the hype.

Flay 11-07-06 12:38 PM

I've got to question why Activision would even think of releasing CoD3 in the same week as Gears of War.

Next week would have been much better timing up against a bunch of sweaty wrestlers, a hedgehog on speed pills, some creatures made of Legos, a boy with a dragon fetish, and Xzibit screaming about pimping my ride.

Deftones 11-07-06 01:40 PM

I think they didn't want to be overshadowed by the PS3 launch and Wii launch. At least this week, they get a 10 day headstart on sales for the Xbox 360.

Deftones 11-07-06 02:09 PM

BTW, I talked to two different Best Buys today about the HD-DVD player. Both guys indicated that they aren't expecting their shipment until at least 11/17, if not later.

Save Ferris 11-07-06 02:26 PM

Id also check how many they expect--Im sure I heard somewhere that they didnt have that many to launch with

Trevor 11-07-06 02:41 PM

Where can I find this faceplate for my 360?

:)

I may have to buy elsewhere, then get at Best Buy at a later date then ;) They ol' switch-a-roo. What is EB/GameStop return policy?

You gotta love the ol' switch-a-roo :D

Deftones 11-07-06 08:13 PM

I was hoping to do the buy somewhere else tonight return tomorrow w/ the BB copies I got for both of the games. Too bad I couldn't find anywhere that had the games.

RichC2 11-07-06 08:18 PM

A guy at Sony went on a rant about how the HD features were a disservice to those with Core Xbox360s (I have a core... bought an HDD on sale).

I laughed.

The Gamespot forums were flooded with console war kiddies based on the article.

I laughed again.

Good times all around. Back to Guitar Hero II. Gears of War in 25 hours, woot woot! (Gotta make time for Lost.)

Here is the article about that:

Sony calls Xbox Live HDTV a disservice

"I think they are doing a disservice to their consumer base because they are ignoring all those people who bought the Core system," said Sony Computer Entertainment America PR chief Dave Karraker, referring to the lower-end $299 Xbox 360 system. Said system does not come with the attachable hard drive necessary to store content downloaded off of Xbox Live.

Naturally, SCEA's head spokesman pointed out that both the $499 and $599 models of the PlayStation 3 have hard drives built in. "We would never segregate or shut out any of our consumers from our entertainment experience because they didn't buy the top of the line system," said Karraker.
Uh... hello... Sony, you can buy the 360 hard drive separately. Any Core owner that wants a hard drive probably already bought one. If a Core owner doesn't have one, it is because he chooses not to have one.

I laughed when he said that Sony wouldn't segregate any of their consumers with their top-of-the-line system. Yeah right... it is a top of the line 1080p HD system that comes with composite cables. Now, THAT is a disservice.
