I'm going to buy a PS3 when I can walk in the store and pick it up with no problems, but the more and more I hear Sony talk shit, I want to see Sony lose this next generation.

My review will be up later, but Contra is a

Microsoft Survey Hints At New Controllers, Subscription Charges
http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/new...hp?story=11609
November 8, 2006 Microsoft Survey Hints At New Controllers, Subscription Charges A new survey issued by Microsoft to select Xbox Live subscribers has given several hints regarding new products and services being considered by the company, including new controllers and the concept of paid-for beta testing. The detailed survey asks whether users would be interested in a redesigned Xbox 360 controller which includes backlit buttons, rubber grips, a “premium” color (black in the photoshopped illustration) and “slightly improved D-pad performance”, all at a cost of $59 to $69. A second joypad is also described, and pictured, which is designed specifically for use with Xbox Live Arcade games and would cost between $29 to $39. The illustration of a possible design is highly reminiscent of the iconic Atari 2600 controller. Another potential new piece of hardware mooted by the survey is a “mini-keyboard” plug-in device for Xbox 360 controllers, to enable text messaging and chat, priced at between $19 to $29. The survey also attempts to poll acceptance for new microtransaction prices, including a price of $0.99 for music downloads, to be accessible in-game. An additional service priced at $14.99 per month is also described, which would allow subscribes to stream music from a library of over two million songs. A price of $19.99 for movie downloads or $1.99 for TV shows is also mentioned, along with a price of $3.99 for “renting” movies which are subsequently deleted from the hard drive. A $5.99 per month subscription for accessing ten to twenty Internet radio stations via the Xbox 360 is also described. The final points in the survey attempt to discern interest in two more potential Xbox Live services. One of these is the idea of integrating a fully functional web browser into the 360's Xbox Live package, as with Nintendo Wii's additional Opera browser service. Perhaps most controversial in the list of possible new services is the idea of participating in beta tests of forthcoming games for “an additional incremental fee”, an idea unlikely to be well received by hardcore gamers. However, all of the concepts listed are obviously under consideration only, meaning that survey feedback may change Microsoft's plans. POSTED: 05.58AM PST, 11/08/06 - David Jenkins - LINK |

From microsofts perspective though, it might be the best way to get the most accurate view of a product--the testers would be VERY critical because they're actually putting money down on the game. Not that I think its a good idea for us though. |

Not that I think its a good idea for us though. You have a point, though. I guess we'll see what comes of the survey. Even if they roll this out, I don't think too many people would participate unless it's a really high profile game and they restrict access to just the beta testers. Actually, given the recent things we've seen on Live, that might be just what they're thinking. Instead of giving us a free Halo 3 demo, they can open up a Halo 3 beta test and charge 800 MS points to participate. |

Glad to have you back. BTW, that same survey had a black 360 controller with rubber grips, new Dpad, and illuminated buttons pictured. It can be seen at Xbox-Scene. There is also a concept drawing of the arcade stick. The fancy premium pad had a survey price between $60 and $70. Ouch. |

But $20-30 for a tiny keyboard that attaches to the controller sounds great. Hope this pans out.

i got into the habbit of keeping my keyboard plugged in from playing PSU, and having mic problems at first. The idea of a small, attachable keyboard would be excellent, if they could keep the cost low

Ugh, I was hoping that Contra on XBLA wouldn't have the same problem that the DC D-Pad had. I don't see how anyone can find it acceptable to play if that isn't fixed.
|
I've been really tempted to get a 360 lately. Alas, I think I'll hold off until next year when the new processors are out (the ones that aren't supposed to get as hot.) B'sides, the Wii will hold me over for awhile. But man, 360 really has some good stuff goin' for it. I think when Assassin's Creed is released I'll have to give in...

Incase you didn't realize....
REDMOND, Wash. — Nov. 9, 2006 — Horstachios, Fizzlybears, Fudgehogs, Mousemallows, Elephanillas and Pretztails are just a handful of the 60 species of wild piñata, coming to homes this holiday season in “Viva Piñata™,” the highly anticipated Xbox 360™ game for kids of all ages. Breaking new ground in Xbox 360 family entertainment, “Viva Piñata” was shipped to stores on Nov. 9, and it will continue to be rolled out to retailers throughout the U.S. and worldwide through Dec. 2. Created by world-renowned video game developer Rare Ltd. and Microsoft Game Studios exclusively for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system, the two-disc “Viva Piñata” Special Edition invites game-players to escape to Piñata Island, where wild-roaming, living piñata animals are looking for a home. “With the arrival of ‘Viva Piñata,’ we’re opening up Xbox 360 to new audiences and inviting more people to jump into the fun,” said Shane Kim, corporate vice president of Microsoft Game Studios. “This is a game that will have broad appeal. Families will play it together. Kids will play it by day, and, I’m willing to bet, their parents will play it at night. Even for the seasoned gamer, ‘Viva Piñata’ will be a great escape, and they’ll see it as a guilty pleasure.” People of all ages will enjoy the vibrant world where they can create and customize their own environment to attract, tame and nurture more than 60 species of wild piñata and make their experience uniquely their own. Packed with hundreds of personalization options, “Viva Piñata” lets people name their piñatas, choose accessories for them to wear, decide where to plant grass and flowers, and more. The colorful, fully customizable game invites people into a world with all kinds of possibilities. People first experienced the world of “Viva Piñata” in September, with the debut of the Saturday-morning computer-generated animation series produced by 4Kids Entertainment and Bardel Entertainment on 4Kids TV on FOX. The arrival of “Viva Piñata” for Xbox 360 establishes a crossover between the show and the game as people, young and old, tune in to the series to pick up hints and tricks to take back to the game. “Viva Piñata” gameplay will be extended through the Xbox Live® online entertainment network. Xbox Live Gold subscribers will be able to connect with friends, family or other players from around the globe to trade items from their piñata paradise — everything from the smallest plant to the largest piñata. Players with the free Xbox Live Silver membership also can trade items. And Xbox Live will offer accessories for download into the game to personalize piñata collections. “Viva Piñata” from Rare and Microsoft Game Studios is rated “E” for Everyone and is available exclusively on Xbox 360. The game started being shipped on Nov. 9, and will be on store shelves by the following week with an estimated retail price of $49.99. The two-disc “Viva Piñata” Special Edition Xbox 360 game, available for a limited time, will include a second disc with playable demos of LucasArts’ “LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy,” the arcade classic “Frogger” as well as family favorites “Cloning Clyde,” “Time Pilot” and “Marble Blast.” In addition, a full-length episode from the zany, anything-can-happen animated TV series “Viva Piñata” is also included. |
I may rent the game and if it seems fun look into asking for it for my birthday or Christmas or something. I just can't imagine even Animal Crossing itself (which ruled my life for a good year) even taking me away from CoD3.

so are all the discs right now the 2 disc set?
|
It looks to me like it is going to be slightly in the same vein. I would wait for reviews and such though to confirm, i'm just basing it on my impressions from video of the thing.
|
I'd be all over Viva Pinata, but there are just too many amazing new games that just came out. Between Guitar Hero 2, COD 3, and Gears, I'm set for a long time to come. Not to mention the Wii launch in just over a week...
I'll have to pick it up during the typically slow early months of next year, especially if the price drops by then. Of course, I have my Amazon Wish List stacked with a bunch of games to pick up if I get gift cards over the holidays, and VP is on there, so that's another option. |
This is a game to get your female companion for sure. Not that guys wouldnt like it but you guys who want to make sure the 360 never becomes a bargaining chip, get her a game she'll find addicting. Then YOU'LL be the one she'll beg for permission to play the console (or buy her own) :)
|
i got my female companion Phantasy Star Universe, or rather, I convinced her the game was for her. Shes now on lvl 20, and has 50 hours logged in
|
Viva Pinata looks great. Microsoft is sending me a free one, so I'll tell you how it is.
