More:
Beginning in January 2007, Atari will release six titles on Xbox Live Arcade throughout the year. Both classic and evolved versions will be available for each of the following titles:

Centipede®/Millipede®: defend your village against an onslaught of centipedes, spiders, army ants and more. In addition to the classic mode, the evolution mode offers high definition graphics and special effects like motion blur, trails and particle-based explosions to make the experience as enjoyable today as it was decades ago.

Battlezone®: the original tank vs. tank action classic has received an Xbox Live overhaul, adding in exciting new multiplayer modes including Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Capture the Flag. This updated version is truly a must-have for any fan of the original, which is also included. Additionally, players can use the Xbox Live Vision camera to watch live video of their opponents. Combine these features with new special effects for weapon firing, impacts and explosions and you have one killer classic as you’ve never experienced it before.

Asteroids®/Asteroids Deluxe™: rotate, thrust, flip, fire and jump to hyperspace as you blast oncoming asteroids to smithereens just like in the 1979 original, but in updated, beautifully rendered, high definition graphics that complement the classic original.

Missile Command™: protecting your city from alien missile attacks has never looked better now that this classic has been overhauled with updated graphics and 3D rendered vistas. Choose from the evolved mode or the timeless original gameplay.

Tempest™: clear a web of enemies before time runs out and advance to the next stage, using an arsenal of weapons at your disposal. This evolved version features a graphics overhaul while maintaining the same addictive gameplay of the original.

Warlords®: a multiplayer classic that resurrects the competitive spirit of arcade games from years gone by. Knock out the other kings in their castles while keeping yourself protected at the same time. Up to four players can join the action with the game taking control of any vacant castles allowing for a variety of single- or multiplayer experiences. Gamers can also import their own pictures to their castles for an extra personalization.

OMG, I will buy all of those.

it also worked as:

u,u,d,d,l,r,l,r,b,a,b,a,select,start

KurrptSenate 11-06-06 10:49 AM

that was just for 2 player mode

that select, start has nothing to do with the 30 lives fyi

Liver&Onions 11-06-06 10:52 AM

You need to press start somehow to get in the game -ohbfrank-

that has nothing to do with the code then, does it

pinata242 11-06-06 10:56 AM

That's true, you could enter the code and then not play. But under that logic, any code would work ;)

KurrptSenate 11-06-06 10:59 AM

nah i was just saying

when people saw the "select start" back in the day (when the game was released), they thought it only worked on 2 player mode, and that it was part of the actual code, and not the desire to want to play 2 players

Anyone having troubles with UNO. Last night about 50% of the time the screen says "Starting Game" it just stuck there for 5 min or so then a blade pops up and says "cannot connect".

s}{ammer 11-06-06 02:07 PM

I'm having a bit of buyers remorse. Anyone know when more games will come out for the live vision camera? Totemball looks good, but from what I have read it isn't very good. So that leaves it just for letting people watch you as you play Uno and other games on XBLA. Does it work with Texas Hold'em? On the box it shows holdem, but in Live the ad there doesn't list holdem for the camera?

So is it worth keeping it at $28, thanks to google checkout, or should I send it back?

The camera only works on the World Championship Poker that you buy at the store, not on the Arcade Hold Em. Totem Ball is pretty horrible but it's free. Other than the Uno type features with the camera there is also face mapping and stuff like that on certain games.

Like I said in the VGT review, the camera isn't really supported for games that much beyond some XBLA support. In fact, the only disc-based games that support it this year are World Series of Poker Tournament of Champions (which Jeff and I both agree sucks) and the upcoming Rainbow Six.

Save Ferris 11-06-06 02:25 PM

and dont forget you can use this camera on your PC for when you start up your "Live webcam" website

It happened to me with most of the ranked games. There would be 4 players ready to go and the countdown would stay on zero.

MasterofDVD 11-06-06 02:49 PM

While the 360 camera support isn't great it is nice to have a decent web cam for my PC again. Totemball is shit unless the light in the room is almost blinding. I'm hoping that the support for the cam picks up a bit but I'm not regretting my purchase at all yet.

Deftones 11-06-06 03:10 PM

Already posted here yesterday or early this AM.

Matt 11-06-06 03:30 PM

Posted this earlier, but it kinda got lost in the Contra shuffle, so I'm reposting:

I don't follow the 360 news as closely as most of you do, so forgive me if this has been covered recently. I'm looking at maybe getting a 360 in the next couple of weeks, but I've heard some scuttlebutt about a new/redesigned chipset or something coming in the next few months which is supposed to run cooler than the current one (and may have additional benefits).

Anybody know anything more about this, and would it be something worth waiting for? I don't absolutely have to have a 360 until Guitar Hero II comes out for it, sometime next Spring.

Deftones 11-06-06 03:57 PM

Quick question. The HD-DVD drive only has a USB output, which attaches to the actual Xbox 360, right? Meaning, I don't have to go out and buy another optical cable for sound to attach to the separate unit.

Correct. It also has an extra USB port.

I don't know if it's already been posted here but here's a Youtube video of <b>"Blue Dragon"</b> gameplay. I've never seen it being played and although it's not really my thing it looks nice.

Is this just a knockoff of final fantasy or something? I have never played FF cause they just don't appeal to me, but this looks like the gameplay is just like an old PS2 RRPG I had picked up cheap. Okage I think it was called. The battles looked the same, although with much better graphics. So is this just what MS needs to win some ground in Japan, a total copy of the RPG genre with no real innovation?

Or am I missing something here? Is this just another RPG clone or is there something special about this one?

Don't ask me dude. Apparently to make it in this industry you have to kiss the ass of Japanese gamers in Japan and "American snob" players here who <i>only</i> get excited about Japanese style games. You know who you are. :p I guess you gotta thow'em a bone like this to keep them from flippin' out.

RichC2 11-06-06 06:02 PM

It actually looks more like Skies of Arcadia. That said the genre is pretty similar across the board on all consoles (J-RPG), and is more reliant on story for it's 'variety' than gameplay mechanics (which haven't changed all that much in the last 15 years).

I'm not sure if Blue Dragon will have anything innovative, but it should be a fun romp regardless.

The japanese are great at making innovative quirky games, but apparently aren't much for gameplay innovation with the tried and true. (Then again, neither are americans, hell we release the same game every year :))

s}{ammer 11-06-06 06:10 PM

:) Yeah I suppose we do get the same games each year huh. Anyway, I am not knocking this game in any way at all. I will at least give it a rental. My comments were because it just looks like that old RPG I have, before a fight the creature does a cute little jump or dance and so on. I just figured that with all the hype on this game it was going to revolutionize the RPG genre, but it just seems like they could call it FFXX and it would fit right in.

Anyway, I guess I will keep my camera, perhaps I will try out totemball in a few. Have any of you seen this 5 year old reviewing the new sony PS3 controller while playing a racing game? It kinda seems like a good idea for racing.

I know what you mean. It always cracks me up when Japanese-style gamers say that all FPS games look the same. Every JRPG looks the same too IMO. I wouldn't even say that JRPGs variety comes from the storylines. Every JRPG I have ever seen has the same "pubescent male who has way too many feminine characteristics and a stupid haircut and wields a sword that is five times bigger than he is and his "destiny" is to save the entire world for complete destruction." I would rather play Oblivion or KOTOR or most any western RPG. At least they feature real "role playing".

Yeah, I'm with you on just about everything you said. However, if this is what people like, it's nice to see MS coming around and giving it to them. On a different note. The camera is ok, Totemball is fun. I just started but it was pretty fun so far. The lighting in my living room is horrible though, but my arms getting tired is more of a problem than the lighting so far. I really hope they come out with more games that are like the eyetoy packs for ps2. The kids are enjoying totemball more than I though.

Am I mistaken, or on the back of the box for the camera, isn't that the arcade texas holdem? I am sure it is.

HD Shows direct to your 360s - the rumor was true: Spread the word DVDTalk has the news first ;)

Microsoft Corp. today announced agreements with CBS, MTV Networks, Paramount Pictures, Turner Broadcasting System Inc. (TBS Inc.), Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment to bring an initial lineup of over 1,000 hours of hit TV shows and movies to Xbox 360™ gamers in the U.S. by the end of the year. Furthermore, Xbox 360 will be the first gaming console to bring standard and high-definition TV shows and movies via digital distribution over the Internet directly to the consumer.

Beginning Nov. 22, on its first anniversary, Xbox 360 will be the first gaming console in history to provide high-definition TV shows and movies directly to gamers in their living rooms. Xbox 360 gamers will have access to the full-length TV shows as downloads to own and movies to rent via download from the Xbox Live® network, the worldwide leader in online distribution of high-definition gaming and entertainment content. This announcement also brings with it several additional “firsts”:

· For the first time, consumers will get an integrated gaming and entertainment experience on a gaming console that includes downloadable high-definition TV shows and movies. This new full-length content adds to the ever-expanding number of choices gamers have on their Xbox 360, whether they want to play games or play a movie on a disc or as a download in high definition or standard definition.

· For the first time CBS will deliver high-definition download-to-own TV shows including “CSI,” “Jericho,” “Numb3rs” and remastered “Star Trek” episodes; gamers can buy them and watch them repeatedly.

· For the first time on any platform, NASCAR.COM will deliver download-to-own condensed versions of select NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series races from “Race Rewind.”

· For the first time, the Ultimate Fighting Championship will make 50 of its most intense fights available for download as well as select episodes from the original season of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality series.

“This groundbreaking announcement is a win for everyone,” said Peter Moore, corporate vice president of the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft. “It connects our partners with one of the most coveted audiences in entertainment today, and provides even greater value to our Xbox Live community, allowing them to enjoy the games and entertainment they want, when they want it.”

The initial lineup of TV shows available for download to own and feature films available for download to rent will include a growing catalog of popular hits. Examples of content that will be available on the network by the end of year include the following:

· “Robot Chicken” and “Aqua Teen Hunger Force” from Adult Swim

· “CSI,” “Survivor” and “Star Trek” from CBS

· Emmy and Peabody award-winning “South Park” and “Chappelle’s Show” from COMEDY CENTRAL

· “The Real World” and “Pimp My Ride” from MTV

· “Avatar: The Last Airbender” and ”SpongeBob SquarePants” from Nickelodeon

· “Skyland” and “The Nicktoons Network Animation Festival” from Nicktoons Network

· “M:i:III,” “Nacho Libre” and “Jackass: The Movie” from Paramount Pictures

· “Carpocalypse” and “Raising the Roofs” from Spike TV

· “Race Rewind” provided by NASCAR.COM

· Select episodes of the original season of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality series and the “UFC: All Access” shows from the UFC

· “Breaking Bonaduce” and “Hogan Knows Best” from VH1

· “The Matrix,” “Superman Returns” and “Batman Forever” from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment

Xbox 360 gamers can access Xbox Live Marketplace with a free Xbox Live Silver membership and a broadband connection. More information about the content available on Xbox Live Marketplace can be found at http://www.xbox.com/marketplaceentertainment.

Mok 11-06-06 08:34 PM

Great News! One problem where will all this content be stored, surely not my 20gb HD.

fumanstan 11-06-06 08:44 PM

I actually read it on Gamespot first :p

Cool idea, but a bigger hard drive really does sound like it should be coming.

BigDave 11-06-06 08:53 PM

I wonder if content could be saved on an external USB drive. That would solve the issue of drive space for all of the HD content. We'll probably just have whatever larger drive they offer though. :(

Fandango 11-06-06 09:04 PM

http://www.engadget.com/2006/11/06/m...loads-for-you/

This link says it can only be saved to the Xbox HD, no external drive.
