I don't know either. They even said in the post-E3 hubbub that it wasn't going to be a launch title. Nov 2006 is the expected launch so I don't see how this is news.

According to CNN we may be seeing the Wii earlier than any of us thought

I just pre-ordered at FYE for fifty dollars when I was buyig a DS Lite. I was the first to pre-order; hopefully they will honor that (unlike a lot of 360 pre-orders that were moved down the list).

I can't wait. Zelda and Metroid on the same day? And Wii Sports?

:)

Michael Corvin 07-05-06 03:27 PM

Already manufacturing systems? Sweet. September? I'm down.

Outlaw 07-05-06 05:20 PM

I'm down for that too if it ends up being true. Hopefully more stores will start taking preorders. I'm ready to put my money down!

The Bus 07-05-06 05:37 PM

No matter when it comes out, if it launches earlier in Japan, I'm importing it. (Unless it's only like 1 or 2 weeks).

glasschicken 07-06-06 07:44 AM

Reading that CNN article got me even more excited about this. I just don't know if I should preorder it or just wait on line the night before. Any ideas?

Actually correct.
Japanese uses Channel 14 , while the US uses 1-11 (some firmwares can allow for ch 14, even though through FCC regulations it is illegal)
Apparently Nintendo DS allows for the automatic detection of channels and can support 1-14.

Nintendo has a strong history of region free portables.
Nintendo has a strong history of region blocked consoles.

So like I said, you run the risk of not being able to use wifi properly.

I'm probably going to preorder with whoever isn't going to make me buy every release game, four controllers, a warranty, etc. Although, I'd really like a red Wii and I haven't heard anything about color choices at launch.

pinata242 07-06-06 01:02 PM

As much as I hate the concept of bundles, this time it probably won't bother me too much because I'm sure I'll be getting a lot of launch things anyway. I just know better than to expect a Zelda/Metroid bundle because those are going to fly off shelves anyway.

Our Nintendo rep told us to expect Wii systems in stores the last week of October. First week of November at the latest. and that the official price and release date will be released very soon.

Oh hotness.

Supermallet 07-09-06 01:10 AM

Now, the reps Nintendo sends out to stores aren't high up in the loop like an executive would be, so take that with a grain of salt until the official announcement is made, but considering the CNN article, I think it's pretty accurate.

devynal 07-09-06 03:25 AM

If they roughly follow the same timetable as they did with the GC (Nov 5) it seems pretty reasonable.

Michael Corvin 07-09-06 08:25 AM

GC didn't come out until the 18th.

Liver&Onions 07-17-06 07:05 PM

Not sure if it was mentioned here, but Engadget has cited the Wiimote being powered by 2 AA batteries for 30 - 60 hours of life depending on which mode is used.

tommyp007 07-17-06 07:46 PM

If there is a Animal Crossing for the Wii, my wife will make me be first in line.

Supermallet 07-18-06 12:30 AM

There will be an Animal Crossing for the Wii, but it's not a launch title. They said it would use the Wiimote in a variety of ways. One would be when you use the axe to chop down trees, you will actually make a horizontal chopping motion.

Goldberg74 07-18-06 01:13 AM

GameSpy says that Wii is already on the assembly line.

:D

Edit to add: Whoops, I just noticed that the date on the article was July 5th... so this might be old news.

maxfisher 07-21-06 11:42 AM

I just placed my pre-order at FYE. The first person I talked to thought I was pulling some kind of weird joke on him when I said I wanted to pre-order a Nintendo Wii. Had to have him call a manager up and she took my order. I'm second on the list and have no idea if they'll try to force a bundle on me or not. She said with PS3, they're definitely only selling bundles, but as of now, the Wii pre-orders are console only, with the possibility of that changing as we get closer to it being released.

Supermallet 07-21-06 07:35 PM

Don't worry, it's FYE. It WILL be a bundle. :)

BeanDip0001 07-21-06 08:28 PM

Ah bundles suck, I don't want to get an extra control I want everyone to be jealous and have to watch me play my new system and laugh. And man some of the games they come with super weak. Like everyone else I’ll have one pre ordered because the system is going to be super awesome.

Supermallet 07-21-06 08:35 PM

I don't think that supply of the Wii will be so short this year that you'll have to pre-order them from FYE.

Michael Corvin 07-21-06 08:40 PM

Regardless of Wii supply, I will be doing the same thing I did with the 360. No preorder either. While 3 of my friends camped out for 12 hours overnight, I dropped by Sams club 90 minutes before they opened(business member), and walked away with one and was home playing it before my friends had even checked out with theirs.

Of course it was a bundle, but not like the other stores outrageous $$ sets. Only $50 more and you got an extra wireless controller and charge kit.

BeanDip0001 07-23-06 10:52 AM

bad bad corvin i waited in the cold and still didn't get one launch day, hell i ended up with an extraone strangehate bought so i got the defective canada xbox :( i'm preording as soon as i can, i don't think i can stand to wait in line again.

On the plus side, since it will be launching in Oct? Chances of camping out in 10 degree weather are slim compared to the late Nov. 360 launch.
