I think it looks pretty good. It may be only a one time through type of game, but that's what rentals are for.

Thanks for the list.

Looks like there is indeed a lot to do in Dead Rising.
I just hope there is enough so that the game doesn't have that feeling of being repititious.

This game looks great. We need a cool 360 game to tide us over into fall.

I've seen the release date for this all over the map, can anyone confirm that it's still 8/22?

I think its 8/8....gamespot, IGN and gamestop all have 8/8.

The capcom site just says Aug 2006.

Maxim played through the final copy of the game months ago? I seriously doubt that, so I would take their review with a grain of salt. They probably based their review on the E3 demo.

I hope that's true, the last couple times in EB Games they've said the 22nd, which is where I got that date.

That is something i had read in the early previews. I had read that the game will take 8 hours realtime and that you could hide in a room and sit there for 8 hours and never do anything and get one ending. Then depending on how many people you free, what you do etc. will give you several different endings. This was an early preview though - who knows how true it all is now.

Oh, man. I'm a big zombie movie fan and just by the looks of this game I would almost pick up a 360. Maybe when the system has a price drop or two sometime in the future.

Probably old news to most now, but marketplace has the demo available for download. I gave it a quick try and it looks like it will be a fun game. The graphics aren't up to par with some of the other 360 games, but the gameplay is pretty good, and it looks like it gives you a lot of variety when it comes to smashing zombies.

The demo has been talked about in the 360 Sticky topic for the last couple days now.

I wasn't going to get this game. It looked fun, but not $60 worth of fun. Then WhoGirl showed up at work and saw the promo for it and had to have it, so now I've got it on reserve. *sigh*

Oh well, I'll still get some fun out of it.

My concern is how much depth is to the game. The demo seemed pretty shallow. Run around and kill zombies. Is that it? Might be good to blow off some steam but it just seems shallow to me.

Don't get me wrong, the demo is fun, but I need some missions or something.

There are missions. Killing zombies is only ancillary to them. The demo just shows off the free roam, bash zombies aspect of the game. Also, there is a lot more to the demo than it might appear. See http://boards.ign.com/dead_rising/b8413/123937268/p1/?7

GameBrink - 80%

http://www.gamebrink.com/xbox-360/16...g-reviews.html

Once the initial joy of destruction has subsided youll want to get into the actual core of the game which takes place over 72 hours within a mall. Each hour is about 5 minutes real time and each quest known as a case requires that you be somewhere in the mall at exactly the right in-game time. While this doesnt sound to limiting it does get quite annoying when all you want to do is search around for a new object to throw or swing at the sea of undead surrounding you.
Pros

Huge environment with tons of items
Combat is a blast
Storytelling and voice acting are great

Cons

Save sytem
RPG leveling system
Case mission system

1UP - 84%

http://www.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3152674

The end result is a relentlessly inventive game worth the price of entry. With more than enough first-person shooters, racing games, and other cookie-cutter filler swamping the 360, it's encouraging to see such an original title land on the system. The experience is flawed -- some might say hampered -- by the save system and curiously designed game structure. But whether you 'get it' or not, Dead Rising nevertheless provides a wealth of secrets and mysteries for both eager gamers and the adventuresome. With each repeated play through a stage, Frank becomes stronger, better able to uncover the mysteries behind this allegorical horror adventure (we'll let you discover what really makes zombies zombies), and the experience becomes richer for it. While there's plenty of room for polish and finesse in future iterations, no hardcore gamer should miss the wholly unique experience provided in Dead Rising's debut.

Team Xbox - 87%

http://reviews.teamxbox.com/xbox-360...ead-Rising/p1/

Dead Rising may not be a game for everyone, but it for those that have enjoyed past Capcom games and zombie games of the past will definitely want to check this out as it’s completely dissimilar from anything you’ve seen before. The astounding level of variety that is packed into the game is wonderful to see. While side missions can be tedious at times, there’s nothing that’s truly forcing you to complete them so feel free to steer clear if you like. The story is engaging and semi-comical at times, it definitely heads in a different direction than you’re expecting at the beginning. In short, this is the game that you should own in the interim between now and the holiday season’s onslaught of gaming bliss.

I can't wait to run around the mall like Mega Man!

This game looks pretty good. Kinda reminds me of Gun: really good game with open gameplay but really short. But it seems like this might have a little more replay value than Gun. I'll probably pick it up even though I don't want to pay $60 but a game like this needs to be supported (just like Gun) to encourage developers to keeping on producing games like this instead of another Need For Speed, Madden, or Medal of Honor sequel (don't get me wrong, these are good games but it gets a little old playing the same franchise sequels over and over).

Hmmm, I may be interested in a 2 for 1....I have NHL and NBA for the 360 to get rid of.

On Topic....the demo was fun to me, but after reading more about everything you can do with this game, sounds like a MUST buy for me now. I guess after my 3rd season of NCAA, I'm ready for something new.

Gamestop did this for a while, not sure if it still is happening. Has anyone done it recently?
