Yeah, that's what I love about this game. On the surface it seems strict with the time constraints and whatnot, but it really is diverse. You can play through 72 hour mode five different times and not play the same way twice if you see fit. And I'm not just talking about different endings, but also in your goal. Which leads me to:

Some of the achievements you will have to play a specific game to get. Meaning, if you are going for that achievement, you will want to dedicate that entire playthrough to the achievement and strategize accordingly. To me, this was the single funnest thing about this game. I loved trying to formulate strategies based on time constraints and other issues. I've posted my walkthroughs here for getting Saint (save 50 survivors) and Frank the Pimp (8 women at once), so if you have problems with those my strategy is earlier in this thread.

You should be okay. I think I was around level 25 when I beat
Spoiler:
overtime mode, not sure what my level was when I was at your point. In the very least you should be able to beat 72 hour mode and if needbe you could start overtime mode after leveling up a bit more.

You can actually get a katana in the same place as the battle axe, just try the glass case in the back (left hand wall when facing the back of the store). There's also one in the knife shop next to the supermarket, and another one on the awning below Columbian Roastmasters on the second floor of Paradise Plaza.

*nail gun = found in multiple rooms in the contstruction area right before you reach her.
Also, you can jump into the under construction fountain w/ the catwalks around it in the middle of where you meet her. She can't ram you in there, and no zombies can get you unless they drop down from above. You can just aim and shoot and take her out.

Maybe this has been covered earlier in the thread, so if it has, I apologize.

i had the chance to play this a bit last night at a friend's house. Seems like a great game, and I've been contemplating the 360 purchase for a while. It's going to happen shortly.

However, my one complaint with the game was that all in game text seemed painfully small and hard to read. this was on a standard Def 27 inch tv, which is what I'll be playing it on. is there anyway to upsize this text? If not, this game will definitely have to wait until we make the jump to hd.

Nope. That is a known issue with the game and Capcom has no plans to fix it. Apparently they only play tested on HD sets.

well, I'm at the end (I think). I'm now faced with avoiding the special forces until my helicopter comes around.

I thought I was done for, but ran back and grabbed the propane tank and blew a couple of them away at the warehouse.

Now I have some nice guns

but now what? it seems like the helicopters isn't coming, as it is past 11 am. do I need to venture somewhere else?

ok .. I'm standing dead center of the helipad, and the cut scene with the pilot looking comes on, but he doesn't see me .. what did I do wrong?

edit: I should add that after he fails to see me - he gets eaten.

Hmmm, sounds like you got a different ending. I'm guessing you might have not visited Isabella around 9-10am?

she called me, but I didn't go to her since I didn't think there was time to get back to the heli pad.

Do I need to go back to her? if so, how the heck am I going to do it with all the special forces dudes running around? I mean, I can clear them out of the werehouse from above, but then .....

2-3 swipes with Adams magical chainsaws Otherwise, I'd say you're SOL.

yeah, I think you need to talk to her in that timeframe to activate the A ending. I could be way off...but I know I did talk to her, and I went to see her before hitting the helipad.

I might have to start over, then .. I don't know that I have enough time to get another saw and then back to her

My strategy was a little different. The first run through, i didn't concentrate too much on the side missions and saving people. I wanted to get the A and true endings.
Spoiler:

From the night before the helicopter shows up, I stayed with Isabella until past 10am when the special ops guys leave. I then made my way to the heliport and stayed waiting for the chopper. I got theA ending and ventured into overtime mode.

Surviving the special ops guys wa a tad difficult as I didn't have the chainsaws. But I managed to kill one and kept refreshing the machine gun they carry. I'd use it to take out one or more in my area and kept 2 fully loaded in my inventory the whole time.

Now to just go back and work on saving people and the other misions so that I can reach level 50 and have the best chance to survive 5 and 7 days in infinity mode.

Where are you guys finding the mini chainsaws? Aren't they destructable like every other item?

I defeated Adam and took his and used them for a while, so where do you pick one up again. All I seem to find are the regular ones.

The chainsaw respawns right in front of the ride where you first see Adam whenever you leave Wonderland Plaza.

You don't need a saw against the SF. Use the maintenance tunnels. You do have the key, right? Even if you don't, just run from the SF. Use a skateboard if you have one. Contrary to what seems to be the prevailing thought, you do not have to kill every SF you see. You can pretty easily run away from them (as long as you don't run into a shop/dead end and get ganged up on). Take advantage of the fact that SF do not chase you through loading screens.

Also, if you are a sufficiently high level, either disembowel or pick them up and throw them for an instant kill.

You should do the Zombie Genocider Achievement to level up to 50. This will also get you the Real Megabuster, without which you shouldn't even think about trying for 7 days in infinity mode (probably not even 5).

Damn. 53k in one play through? What are some good tips on this one? Maintenance tunnel with a car? I'm on case 7 and only have about 2,500.

Yep, maintenance tunnels with a car. There are several routes you can take with varying degrees of complexity. This is supposedly the most efficient: http://youtube.com/watch?v=wzH1cndSwqc . The simplest, but still quite effective, is just to get the truck near the meat processing plant, drive down to where you find the tunnel key then back out, killing the massive amount of zombies that spawn there, then head back to the meat processing plant and kill as many as you can there before the truck dies. Go into the plant and back out to get a new truck and repeat. No matter the route, the key is to hit as many of the zombies pushing explosive tanks as you can. The entire process takes 3-4 hours of real time. Make sure you play to the end (doesn't matter which ending you get) and save. Otherwise, you won't get the Real Megabuster.

I'm sure everyone has their own methods on leveling up but I thought I would share mine. Although it has probably already been posted.

From midnight to noon on the last day, just take out Special Ops guys in the warehouse from above. Use the propane tanks & machine guns. The A.I. is insanely stupid and they run around in circles on the floor never once firing up at you. I managed to level up 7 levels before the helicopter arrived. Much easier than hiking through the mall and dealing with them and zombies.

Which leads me to, kind of sensitive placing is that? I stood on the roof and failed. I stood on the helipad and I failed. I guess I will try some more spots this evening.

What are you talking about? As long as you are anywhere on the roof at 12 p.m., you will an ending.

Now, if you let the cases lapse, you will get the failed ending I think. Otherwise, you will get the ending which unlocks the overtime mode or the happy ending (if you saved 50 survivors). Also, if you get captured by the special forces, you will get a completely different ending.

The pilot decides it's not worth waiting ("when you're dead, you're dead" & the story never gets out) because he doesn't see me through his binoculars then he is attacked by a zombie. Nevermind the fact that I am standing on the helipad he landed on.

So one of the endings isn't actually leaving the mall by helicopter? Forget the extended modes, I thought that was the whole point of the game. In 72 hours be on the helipad or be left behind.

I got ending C & D so far. How many are there?

Also found a bizaare glitch in the acheivement system in regards to saves. I got the 3 day survivor, marathon man, and legendary soldier achievements/points in the period between midnight and noon on the last day. Well I ventured out into the mall and died. So I loaded my save game and I no longer had the achievements. Still had the points but not the achievement on the list page. Got them again easy enough but it was weird.

I got that ending as well the first time through. The Overtime mode is an extension of the main story, so it's worth completing all the case files and unlocking.

There are 6 endings, I think, the worst of which you haven't experienced. The trick to unlocking ending A is to complete all the case files, get the special forces cutscene several hours before the arrival of the chopper, be at Carlito's hideout at 10 A.M. for a cutscene, and making it to the helipad by noon. Then the story continues into Day 4.

Spoilering this just incase.

Spoiler:

I got ending A the first time I played through the game. I did all the case files, sacrifing many side missions and survivors. I just didn't have the time, nor wanted to take on too much and miss my chance at finishing the story and all the cases.

At 10 am on the 4th day, I didnt' have a cut scene at the hideout. At least that I can recall. My last day went like this.

Once the Special Ops guys enter the mall, there is a cutscene with Jesse in the security room. I was already in the hideout from earlier. I made my way through the mall to the security room to get the one achivement there, Snuff Shot J. I died on my way back out by being caught by the special ops guys. So, I reloaded my game and stayed at the hideout until 10am on day 4 when the special ops guys leave. I spoke to Isabella, and there was just text on the screen.

I made my way to the helipad and waited until noon. The chopper arrives and I see the scene with the pilot waving to me and then gets attacked by the zombie. Frank just stands there stunned as the helicopter crashes. He is getting surrounded when Isabella shows up, shakes him out of it and kills some zombies. That was a cutscene.

My game ends, I get ending A, and Overtime mode starts.

I get through Overtime mode without getting caught by the special ops guys to get the true ending.

Well, I did get caught a few times, but I just reloaded to the most recent save and made sure I was ready for the special ops guys or took a different route.

My last time in the mall was pretty boring as I waited from about 11pm on Day 3 to 10am on day 4.

"I spoke to Isabella, and there was just text on the screen."

That's what gave you ending A.

That is what I thought, but the above poster and others on different fora kept mentioning some cutscene at 10 that you get when you go there and speak to Isabella. I was a little confused as I didn't see any cutscene at that point, just the text. But I did get my A and True endings.
