My 360 Problem

So here's my story I came home today to play some Top Spin 2, I was on live playing someone and my 360 froze, so I restart it and this time it freezes on the 2K games startup screen, I restart it again and this time it freezes on the 360 startup screen, so I restart it once again and this time I get the 3 red lights. So now I unplug all cables and plug them back in and this time it freezes in the dashboard. So I call Xbox and they got me restarting it with different games and all that stuff. So heres the good part, they tell me that I need to send it in but its not under warrenty. They tell me that my warrenty expired on the 4th of May. He also tells me that I originally get a 6 month warrenty and a 10 day grace period. So I figure that warrenty started on the 4th of November, when the console hasn't even been released yet. I bought mine on November 22nd (the release date). So my question to you all is does any of this make sense, or am I missing something. For now I told them I'd call later on my decision, so what would you do.

This may sound silly but call back. Try another rep. They may dig a little deeper for you and and help you out. What have you got to lose?

I thought they extended the limited warrenty for launch units to 9 months. At least thats what I remember reading before.

call back, maybe you will get a rep willing to work with you. A tip though, if they do have you ship it back to them and repair/ship back to you on their dime, when you get the new unit, the warrenty period starts again. Purchase their 2 year extended warrenty. its $50, but having piece of mind if something happens in a year knowing you'll be covered and get a new system is worth it.

I did that when my launch unit died a couple months ago. When I got the new unit delivered to me, I called right up and enrolled it in the 2 year extended warrenty.

Man it sucks if they won't work with you on the warranty. Actually the fact they don't give a one year warranty on the 360 is bullcrap as well. I had a similar issue with my PStwo unit. I bought mine the day they were released and had a controller port problem 9 months later. Even though my unit had to be under warranty since the model wasn't even on the market a year Sony refused to honor the warranty because I had lost my receipt. Why they even bother with you registering the system I don't know since the receipt is all they care about. I ended up selling the unit at a loss instead of paying for the expensive repair cost.

I would call them back and keep trying. You should not have to pay for the repairs of something this new. When I had my launch Xbox I had trouble with it just outside the warranty period and they fixed it free anyway. You just need to talk to the right customer rep.

So I just called back and I must have found the right customer service rep cause they were really cool about it. They apologized for the previous call. They are shipping out a box to send the 360 in and I should get my repaired 360 in 10-14 days. I'm am really happy with them as I did not want to pay $130 or get a warrenty to get it fixed.

Has anyone had any experiences with sending there 360 in?

I bet they were calculating 6 months as 180 days.

Nov 22nd
Dec 22nd - 30
Jan 22nd - 61
Feb 22nd - 92
Mar 22nd - 120
Apr 22nd - 151
May 22nd - 181
May 23rd - 182 days

Even going by 6 months = 180 days, you'd still be within your 10 day grace period, so I don't know what their problem was...

Good that they ended up doing right by you.

Maybe, but the original guy I talked to told me that the warrenty expired on May 4th. I told the guy how that made no sense and asked him how does the warrenty start on November 4th when the console wasnt even released for another 2 weeks. He had no answer just saying that the computer said it expired. Atleast I got someone with a brain the second time I called.

I would have tried asking for a supervisor to figure the correct time so the rep would look stupid.

Good thing you got a good rep the second time.

Who knows what that guy was talking about, but I hope your problem is resolved easily. I've had problems with my 360s (I'm on my second one,) and it's really annoying.

Do they at least transfer your drive and/or data to the refurb?

I asked them if I need to send in my hard drive and they said no. Which is good cause I don't want to lose all my saved games.
