When you get to the later, long, hard levels of SSE, you are able to choose between characters quite often.

You can remove the stickers. When you get to later harder SSE levels, the stickers help out a lot. I was getting my butt handed to me until I added stickers to boost my stats. I'm playing on 'normal' difficulty.

I beat the SSE, clearing about 83%, then beating the boss. You don't need 100% to clear it.

Maybe I phrased that poorly. I meant to say that once you place a sticker, you can't remove it and then reuse it. Or at least I thought I had read that it worked that way. I haven't tried it myself so I could be mistaken.

Supermallet 03-12-08 12:58 AM

It says in the manual that you can remove a sticker, but not reuse it.

I got it today, and my launch Wii played it fine, but sounded like it was going to die any moment. This is my first time playing Smash Bros, and I honestly did not like it at all. I like the DOA and Virtua Fighter series, and enjoyed the Guilty Gear game that just came out for the Wii. Those games I can play for hours.

I played using the classic controller, and I might give it a shot with the Wiimote, but as it stands I have no desire to play the game again. I beat it on classic mode with Link. I didn't like the controls, and some stages I didn't fight anyone and won. The second stage all I did was climbed ladders without pushing any buttons really. I was hoping the game would destroy me the first time through, but I was able to beat it only getting killed twice.

Not what I was expecting, I was disappointed it in, and I feel that I wasted my $50. That is just my opinion.

Man I've been playing the living hell out of this game. I'm really digging it a lot more than SSBM. Just a fun romp all around

No problems on my or any of my friend's launch Wiis.

pinata242 03-13-08 10:35 AM

My launch Wii has been fine as well.

harrydoyle 03-13-08 11:39 AM

The gameplay isn't vastly different than Melee, but it's more balanced, and the amount of content is mindblowing. I'll be playing this non-stop for months.

Keep playing and you will like it, its not an average fighting game, fun once you get the hang of it and all the weapons etc

this is true. ive never played any of the games. i didn't get it at first and was terrible. Playing thte SSE has helped alot and has introduced me to many characters and their strengths and flaws. i am officially hooked now, especially with the depth of what to do and unlock.

QFT. I tried SSB Melee on my nephew's Wii months ago and hated it, mostly because it was too chaotic and seemingly random (I loved Powerstone, which was the closest to SSB as I had played at the time).

Upon playing SSB Brawl, I got the same impression initially. But playing SSE and getting to use the different characters, I'm REALLY liking this game. Now, if they can do something about handling the current crazy server load I'll be a happy camper!

FatTony 03-13-08 02:30 PM

OK, I've spent a bit more time playing SSE and I'm liking it a bit more, even though I still find myself falling to an untimely death far too often. I also constantly get my ass kicked by those giant balls with the axe arms. But one thing I really like about it is that you unlock the characters you encounter. Anyone know if it's possible to unlock all the characters by only playing SSE?

Also I really don't like playing as Snake. They dropped the ball on that one.

I think, but you have to go back after you beat it to some points on the map that aren't complete.

redbill 03-13-08 03:09 PM

Those axe-balls are nasty, never found a good way to beat them w/o taking serious damage. I finished SSE last night, and got most of the characters, but I sitll think there's a few more. Will ventually go back and find all the hidden crap I missed. I only cleared 83%. snake is tough, I think it'll take some practice, but I see potential.

GatorDeb 03-13-08 05:48 PM

MasterofDVD I ended up getting it (about to play) so let me know when you want to play a match :D

That sucks you didn't like it. But if you want to make the game harder, you can adjust the difficulty level.

Those axe guys were beating me as well until I applied stickers and now they are easy to kill. :)

I like that Snake is included in the game, but his smash attacks pretty much suck.

You do know that
Spoiler:
you are supposed to hit them in the head? And it takes a load of their energy away right?

darkside 03-17-08 09:04 AM

I'm having some of the initial dislike of this game that others here have had, but it sounds like many of you have liked it more as you keep playing it. I tried all the different control options and still don't know which one I like, but it seems that the GameCube controller will win out. The analog sticks on the classic just aren't positioned in a way I like and I'm not getting the Wiimote controls.

harrydoyle 03-17-08 09:52 AM

I haven't even tried the Wii-mote controls because I just can't see how it can beat the Gamecube controller. It's easier to hold and is more familiar to me.

Lately I've been doing a lot of homerun contest. I suck though, I haven't broken 2000 ft with anyone yet.

Smash Bros. Breaks Nintendo Sales Records

Nintendo of America has announced that Super Smash Bros. Brawl has become the fastest-selling video game in the company's history, selling more than 1.4 million units in the U.S., 874,000 of those on its March 9th release date alone.

According to Nintendo, this computes to a rate of more than 120 units per minute between its launch and March 16th. The title features dozens of classic Nintendo characters battling alongside other industry mascots like Sonic the Hedgehog and Metal Gear's Solid Snake.

The title supports battle for up to four players either locally or online. Nintendo also notes that its predecessor, Smash Bros. Melee, was the best-selling GameCube title of all time, selling over 7 million copies worldwide.

Nintendo of America EVP of sales and marketing Cammie Dunaway commented, "Super Smash Bros. Brawl has made the leap from video game to cultural phenomenon. Game reviewers and the public alike praise its fun game play and extensive, inventive content."

This game is disturbingly loud in my Wii, runs fine though.

(Picked it up w/ Wii Play w/ that TRU Buy 1 Get 1 $20 off.) Gotta say I'm happier with it than I was with Brawl, though I still suck ass at these games.

I will keep you posted. I promised my wife a relaxing evening so I don't dare turn the Wii on tonight. the past two times I have started to play this game 3 or 4 hours were gone in the blink of an eye.

Jamezuva 03-18-08 06:55 PM

Ok, this is driving me nuts. On Subspace Emissary, how do you get the crown (meaning you've gotten everything in the stage) on "The Plain" which is like the 4th or 5th stage. I've gone through it probably 5 or 6 times and still I only have the green flag. I went to that one red door at the top of that long vertical passageway which leads to a room with a bunch of blocks and water flowing in the background so I've gotten everything there (I think). What else would I be missing? I even beat the level on the "Intense" difficulty without having to use a continue. I've managed to get a crown of every single other level I've played thus far and I'm about 30% through it
