Elder Scrolls Oblivion Thread: Part 2

Re: Elder Scrolls Oblivion Thread: Part 2
I haven't played much past that but it's alot harder than Oblivion. Killing local wildlife is touch and go most of the time. Boars are nothing to laugh at! And per the faq the difficulty slider doesn't effect gameplay all that much, so there's no dialing back the difficulty. It's similar to MMORPGS in that different areas have a different level ratings. There's none of the scaling you see in Oblivion.
Visually the only thing I hate right off the bat is the depth of field effect (It must be a German thing because both Gothic 3 and Risen have the same feature). Other than that it's just as immersive as the original.

I think the difference between it and invisibility is invisibility also breaks if you steal something or open a door. Again this is memory thing since I played it when it originally came out... I just know I chose chameleon rather than invisibility for that reason.

Re: Elder Scrolls Oblivion Thread: Part 2
Hmm so it appears I encountered one of the many remaining bugs in the console version of the game. I'm playing on the PS3 for the second time through (since my HD got corrupted and I lost my save file). I did Knights of the Nine first and then started the main quest. Now I have Gukimir following me and I can't get rid of him. I tried hitting him into a lava pool in an Oblivion gate and that SEEMED to work as he would immediately become unconscious when he stood up. I left (didn't close the gate just went out) and it seemed like I was all set but then about 10 minutes later he showed back up. I tried talking to him to see if there's a choice to make him go away but no dice.
All the workarounds seem to be for the PC version. Any ideas on how I can get rid of him on the PS3 version? Maybe I need to find a cliff or something with a lava pool below it and knock him down so he can't eventually get up and find his way back to me.
Edit-Looks like according to UESP, I can complete the Malog Ball Daedra quest and then the follower will go away. I still have a save game from a couple hours back before I finished KOTN, so that's my fall back should the Malog Ball quest not get rid of him.

Re: Elder Scrolls Oblivion Thread: Part 2
Well I completed Shivering Isles, what a blast.
Dawnfang/Duskfang is too cool. I geek out on the weapons. That Madness axe is wicked. It's so light you can swing it fast, with little fatigue, yet it does a lot of damage. It's like a chainsaw. Oh yeah how about Nerveshatter? Too cool.
I've got a Madness armor suit that rocks. I consoled up the Sigil stones I needed to make it right. I just had to.
What a total blast playing this again.

We'll see if it has all of the official plugins (DLC) that were left out of the GOTY edition. The annoying thing was that their DRM for buying that stuff was incompatible with Windows Vista and 7, so to obtain them legally, I had to find a standalone Knights of the Nine disc. But even that disc was missing one of the plugins for some reason. Hopefully this will finally be a complete edition.
Although, I don't see myself buying this. Steam already sells a package with everything, so I may just get that someday when it goes on sale for something crazy like 75% off.

Re: Elder Scrolls Oblivion Thread: Part 2
After putting over 110 hours into skyrim i'm ready to take a break. Is it worth going back to Oblivion? I never joined any guilds, never started the expansions, and never completed the main quest. But for some reason i put 70 hours into Oblivion on 360
On Sky. i did a Battle Mage build. I'm thinking of doing the same for OBL. Any good builds you guys can recommend for a battle mage?
Playing on PS3

Oblivion actually has a better story than Skyrim, in my opinion. And the Dark Brotherhood questline in Oblivion remains the series' best.

Re: Elder Scrolls Oblivion Thread: Part 2
Just curious, but i have not played the Xbox 360 version for a long time. When i did i remember that the discs got scratched all the time due to problems with the machine. Did this issue ever get resolved with newer versions of the 360?

Foliage is lusher, fronds of grass are more plentiful... everything is much sharper across the board.

Just seen that i was one of the last people to write about the game. I loved playing through it, but on the 360 it was a nightmare.. The unit destroyed about 6 copies of the game.
