As happy as I was to get the update prompt on Live today I just wasn't ready to give up the horseback money cheat in Kvatch. I declined it and figured I'll go back just one more time and cash in.

Yes, thank you for that list!

My game was crashing, but the update today fixed it. If you don't have your 360 connected to the internet, go download this patch and load it.

Fuck Bethesda!

Goddammit. I applied the patch tonight, and it supposedly fixes the Cheydinhal Mages Guild Recommendation bug which caused me to stop playing Oblivion about a month ago. So I went back into the well and the body still wasn't there. I rebooted the 360 and tried again. Still no luck. I searched the official Elder Scrolls forums and apparently other people are having the same problem. It's rumored that the fix only applies to newly-started games - i.e., if you've already hit the bug, applying the patch doesn't fix it. I sent a tech support request through the official site. If their response confirms that I need to start a completely new game to see the fix, I'm demanding my money back and never buying another Bethesda game ever again. It's bullshit that we pay $60 for a buggy game and then their patch doesn't even fix the problems it claims to.

I'm at a point in this game where I'm stuck at every level. I'm working on getting all the Daedric artifacts to see which one I want to give to Martin. I need that khagit ring so I can steal another ring for the theives guild but I keep dying doing the Daedric quest in the Necromancer cave because they keep over-encumbering me and I dont' have enough magic to use the ease of burden spell I was given.

My sneak sucks so I can't do the DB quest to switch out the poisons and I don't have enough magic to the the Mage quest for the 4 spells.

I've a level 14 and I honestly feel like throwing this game out the window, because I have no where to go.

You need a chameleon spell. You will breeze through all the quests with that spell alone. Invisibility is the key. I am using "deathly visage" or something like that.

Maybe try some other quests before returning. Then your levels will be up, or at least your skills, then come back to the (and thieves guild). although maybe working on the Thieve's guild will help your sneak..

You can even buy Deathly Visage in the DB guildhall.

The thieves guild storyline was the very first one i worked on and completed and i did the entire thing with no invisibility or chameleon other than any potions i could make/steal. Pick up some scrolls and potions by robbing shops. Collect ingredients in the wilderness and make your own potions. You can also find someone sleeping or on the other side of a small wall, sneak and just creep back and forth near them and your sneak skill will begin raising. It doesn't have to be someone agressive to you.

i've only completed a few of the thieves guild quests, maybe 7? i forget, but they're not too hard, imo. and my guy's sneaking skills is horrible cuz i made him a pure fighter. i didnt finish the thieves guild or start the assasin's guild quests cuz i wanted my guy to be well liked during the main quest. now that's completed, i can mess around with the darker aspects of the game.

Those questlines don't really affect the main storyline at all. That and the main prize you get for completing the thieves guild line is extremely useful throughout the rest of the game. I'm very glad i did it first.

So apparently Bethesda's response is that saved games are not affected by the fixes in the patch. So you can either lose all progress on your current character and start all over again, or continue playing your current game and be unable to finish large sections of the game.

I am currently in contact with Bethesda Tech Support, trying to find out who at the company I need to talk to in order to return my game and get a refund. Failing that, I'll be selling or trading this P.O.S. game.

I am at 100% chameleon. Nobody attacks me, even when I attack them. They cannot see me. I have only gotten hit by stray swipes or magic.

I enchanted about 5 items to put me over 100 points of chameleon, no spells needed.

I can just run through the oblivion gates or anywhere unnoticed.

yea, i know, but when my character is well-liked, it makes getting information out of them easier. i didn't like the persuasion minigame at all

but the main thing was i wanted to play my character as a pure good character. he was absolutely virtuous. i didn't wanna play it strictly for completing for the quests or getting achievements.

It is weird, I am over 100% (4*30) and it still seem like I am seen. I was shooting arrows and some necros, and their zombies would still come at me, and the magic too. I don't know if they are following the arrows or what?

i never tried that spell, does what you wear affect it also? i read that you need to wear certain shoes or go barefoot to avoid making noise

I can get behind actually role-playing it a little bit. That is what i did except i was a thief. After i got turned into a vampire without realizing it i decided my character would fall totally to the dark side and start the DB storyline next.

I never played the persuasion mini-game after trying it once. I just bought some spells to raise their opinion of me and always used that spell before talking with anyone. Between the spells and just paying money it was never an issue.

Yes it affects what you wear. The shoe thing is in regards to your sneak skill. If your sneak is under 25 (or 50 i forget) you want to be going barefoot as shoes/boots will warn your enemies. After you get the first "perk" the bonus is shoes no longer affect your sneaking. When you hit a skill level where shoes no longer affect your sneaking then the game will let you know.

That cannot be true. My Clavicus Vile quest, which was freezing, worked just fine after I applied the patch. I'm sure what they meant is if you've already encountered a glitch, and saved, this won't fix it. If you haven't encountered a glitch yet, it will work.

Yeah, maybe I didn't phrase it very well. I was a little fired up (could you tell? ) and probably didn't choose my words carefully enough. You pretty much said what I meant to say. My problem is that I didn't even realize I had hit the Cheydinhal bug until a long time after I accepted the quest, so I no longer had a save game from before the point where I accepted it. So basically I'm screwed unless I start a new character, which I really don't want to do. Now that I've cooled down a little, my current plan is to play through the rest of the main storyline, finish up the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood storylines, and then sell or trade the game. If they eventually release a patch to fix the bugged quest without having to start over, I'd probably rent the game and finish the Mages Guild storyline, which I am currently unable to finish due to the bug.

That said, I doubt I'll purchase another Bethesda Softworks product ever again. I don't like being an unpaid beta tester for a buggy game.

You probably aren't interested in spending more money, but if you get the Wizard's Tower add on, I believe you get the main benefits of the mage guild...spell making and item enchanting.

Sorry to hear about your problem. That does suck. I've enjoyed the game enough to be willing to start it over again. There's so much to do and it would be fun to try using a different character and skill set.

I'm having problems now where I'm trying to do a thieves guild quest and her ring is gone. I even pick pocketed her and it's not there anymore. I reloaded a save and probably do something else and come back.

I hope it's not lost forever.

hehe, that's a great example of role-playing. when i had to kill someone who was "innocent", the DB guy visited me and i almost jumped outta my seat cuz i didn't know about them. i actually felt guilty about killing someone innocent. i checked my stats and it seems i still have only ONE murder which will soon disappear when i start the DB quests. huhu

Chameleon Spell

Are chameleon spells stackable? I know with feather spells, you can keep casting different ones and they will all add to how much you can carry. Are chameleon spells the same? Example: I had a chameleon spell for 25% for 30 seconds. I finally reached 100 in my illusion so I was FINALLY able to buy "cloak" which gives me 75% chameleon for 30 seconds. If I were to cast the 75 one and immediately follow it with the 25 one, does that give me 100% for 30 seconds?

Thanks

I believe so. I am saying htis because it is stackable with the enchanted armor, so I would assume the spells are the same.
