Your favorite Mario game
What's your favorite Mario game? Obviously only the core of the series the adventure platformers starring Mario are included.
Super Mario Bros. 3 is my favorite, i think it is the apex of the series. There's so many different worlds and levels, the most massive in scope.

No love for the original Mario Bros.?
I have to put Mario 3 after 64. I love them both, but 64 brought so much to the table, while Mario 3 was just a bigger more robust version of 1. Mario World would round out my top 3.
It's close though.

Super Mario World. Excellent graphics, excellent level design. And was probably the longest of the mario games with finding all the 96 exits and clearing every level.
Definitely the one I replay the most. Super Mario Bros 3 a close second, and Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island right behind it in third.

Tie between Super Mario 64 and Super Mario World. Loved both of those games, mediocre DS version excluded. If I have to only pick one I guess it will be 64 since I spent so much time getting every single star.

Tie between Super Mario World and Super Mario 64. SMW was an incredible platformer with tons of levels, and after you've finished it (or during depending on how good you were) there were those Special stages.
Mario 64 was an incredible game, it doesn't need to be said how revolutionary it was when it came out. The gameplay was so incredibly responsive and tight that I was always amazed at the glitches people found like getting on top of the castle without the cannon or the shortcuts and then sat in awe as I tried to do them myself and was able to do it too.
Those being said, I cannot wait for New Super Mario Bros. on the DS when Mario returns to his 2D roots .

I'm surprised. I thought everyones favorite would have been 64 or 3. I picked World as it was my personal favorite. I also really like 2 though. But all of them were quite good. Except for the first Super Mario Land. That one was a little odd. Definately the black sheep in the family.

However, I do agree the game is a little odd.

Super Mario 3. At the time, It had added so many new things. But still had all of the fun of the original one.
But now, I equally love all of the Mario sports games too.

Super Mario World, I remember playing the initial Japanese release and it just looked so fine at the time. Good memories. Mario 64 is close just for being such a great realisation of platforming in 3d. It wasn't until zelda oot that I enjoyed just running around in a 3d world more than mario 64.
Of course my fav mario game is Mario kart 64 .

In Super Mario World 2 you play as Yoshi, not Mario.

In fact, it wasn't even really a Mario game. Super Mario Bros 2 was originally Doki Doki Panic. It was reskinned to include Mario outside of Japan and they slapped the Mario Bros name on it.
You can read about it here.

Yeah, I know the history of SMB2. I still like it better than SMB and the Lost Levels as far as going back and playing them today. The control just isn't tight and the level design to simplistic compared to SMB3, SMW etc.

Just picked up Mario 3 for the DS; damn it's a hard game! Maybe I'm just out of practice with the "Mario style", but it seems that I do nothing but die during the game. Still hella fun though.
