Yeah, funny how an NES game is larger than an SNES game of the same series and proving gameplay is always more important than graphics. SMB3 was the first leap of innovation, the next would be Mario 64.

I disagree about the only innovation is SMW being the graphics. The multiple exits changes a lot. The flying is 100% better and super rewarding when mastered. I agree that it is a logical extension of everything SM3 added to the pot, but to dismiss it as just a graphical upgrade is a bit over the top IMO.

I dismiss "World" as adding tweaks and not being the big leap others make it out to be. Flying (IMO) is cumbersome and more complicated than it needed to be. The secrect exits are fun, but to imagine them being added after a game such as Mario 3 seems very logical and evolutionary.

I would say the jump from 1 to 3 would be like going from a 4cylinder engine to a V8. The jump from 3 to World seems like jumping from a V8 to a V10.

The V10 is faster, more powerful, and in some ways better, but its not that big of a leap.

I also think that returning to a three power-up system was a step back from Mario 3 and limited the game.

I like them all to some extent. Not a big Sunshine or Mario 64 fan though. Though Paper Mario 2 I thought was great as I did Mario RPG years ago.

My favorites would be Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World. They were at the peak of my gaming interests and great memories of youth.

Hopefully, the upcoming game (which looks like a hybrid of earlier Mario titles) will make the list.

World was the first video game I ever owned, but i always had a soft spot in my heart for 3. It was so awesome when that came out.

My favorite is Mario Kart, which isn't on the list.
