I swear, I have the craziest girlfriend on the planet. We went to a nice dinner and a movie, but none of that matters, because I asked her to come with me to Wal-Mart 20 minutes before midnight. I even sat through "You've Got Mail" until it ended at 11:30! She did it, though is now incredibly pissed off at me because she wasn't where she wanted to be when the ball dropped, and that's how she'll remember this new years, being at Wal-Mart, not all the other things we did... oh, and there were already 15 people in line for 12 systems, so it wasn't even worth it! I would have gone an hour early if I could have… I have the worst luck…

I refused to let Microsoft ruin my New Year's Eve...until I can walk into a store and buy a premium system off the shelf I will not own an Xbox 360.

Which means I should probably just wait until the first price drop, pick up a Revolution and be done with the whole thing for this generation.

It gets people to come into the store in off-peak hours.

Similar bad luck here. Went to one Walmart and showed up around 6:15. The line was already about 10 deep including myself. Manager came out at 6:30 and announced they had 8 core and 4 premium. I could have gotten a core but I want the HD and I have an HDTV and I want the component cable so I didn't want to have to spend more for that stuff.
Went to another Walmart a few miles away. got there around 6:50 and the line was about 10 or 12 deep. I figured that since most Walmarts aren't getting more than 15-20 systems total (and in reality it seems like it's less than that) and only about half being premiums, my chances of getting a premium were pretty slim and just said screw it and came home. It was worth a shot but I think that was the first and last time I try and wait in a line before a store opens for one of these (unless I have kids some day who want a must have toy).
I think my best chance of getting one will be to call around to a few stores a few times a week or to just randomly see them for sale. I swear this is such a mixed bag for MS. On the one hand, apparently there is huge demand. At the same time, we're look at 1.5 months almost since the system was released and people still can't just walk into a store and buy one? So much for having a huge installed user base before the PS3 comes out. It's weird too that some places are getting shipments in often and in large numbers (I hear reports of some Best Buys getting random shipments of 25+ premiums) yet others aren't getting squat.

Kudos to the manager of the first Walmart though since he was nice enough to come out and tell us how much they had as well as pass out numbers. As soon as they did that everyone went back to their cars. It looked like at the other place that never happened since everyone was standing in a very formal looking line. That particular Walmart (the first one i went to) is in a more urban area so if anything I expected that line to be a bit less organized but it seemed they handled it well.
Back to bed for me.

I wish my Walmart had your manager!

I was 7th in line at about 6:55, and overheard the manager arguing with the people in the front of the line... and then he stormed off.

Turns out the guy had forgotten the keys to the store, and lived 20 minutes away. All the store employees were left out in the cold too.

He shows up at 7:40, lets us in to wait for about 10 minutes... then hands us numbers.

When we got there they had 14 units... 6 premium, 8 core.

Like I said... I was #7. :-(

At that point it wasn't worth it to try another store, since it was 8:00 already.

So I grabbed a Core, but will just e-bay it and try again.

I'm getting very close to just preordering a PS3 and being done with this.

I finally scored one last night at Walmart. There are four 24 hour Walmarts within about a ten mile radius of me, so I decided to go to the one that I thought would be the least crowded. I got there around 11:55 pm, and the store had a number system in place. I was #7 of 7 for the premium system. All told, they had seven premiums and eight cores. I was out the door 15 minutes later. No one showed up after me and all of the cores were still there by the time I left.

I originally set my alarm for 6:00 AM this morning...but after surfing the net and checking my loal Wal Mart's hours of operation for today (Open at 11:00 AM) I decided to just shut off my alarm, as I wasn't feeling like having to wait in a line on New Years day (hungover!).

Happened to wake up at 7:10 AM and the XBOX 360 immediately came to mind. Hopped in my truck - and headed out for my local Wal Mart (Victorville, CA), which is just over a mile from my house.

Got there, lots of cars in the parking lot - thought I was screwed as I realized they were already open. Saw lots of guys walking out as I walked in but NONE of them had anything, and one was on his cell phone shaking his head. (Not sure if it was xbox related or not though).

I almost turned around and went back home - but ventured to a completely empty electronics department. Walked over to the Xbox locked diplay and immediately saw 3-4 Premiums and 2-3 core systems in the case!!!! At that time, 2 employees came by and they were both talking about the 360 and one of them said, so we aren't supposed to sell these (pointing to the ones in the case)? The other employee said, no - we can sell those now.

So, as it turns out, the first employee was basically telling people that they couldn't buy them this morning (from what I gather anyway?).

I grabbed the premium 360 - and purchased it right there in the electronics dept. Walking out in less than 5 minutes with one (finally!).

Good luck everyone!

I was thinking the same thing. I'm not sure what I could say to convince my wife to ring in the new year at the local Wal-mart.

I'm actually getting very close to the same thing myself. I can't believe i'm playing this hunting game and busting my ass for the privilege of forking over 500-600$.

The EB's near me still haven't filled all their pre-orders and don't expect to have any units for non-preordered customers until late march or early april. Bloody ridiculous.

Had only been one other person cme by so I got my buddy signed up and his nephew got his they will call when next shipment comes in, gotta at least give thema pat on the back for doing that.

That's almost as bad as this

but seriously, funeral stuff is expensive and if people can save money by getting caskets through Costco more power to them (if they truly are alot less through Costco that would probably be great for people who were on fixed incomes and didn't have much life insurance).

Oh, shut up...

Maybe I'm weird, but I couldn't care less about where I'm at at midnight.

Best Buy is supposed to be getting another shipment for sale on January 3rd.

Here's the store allocations (3rd post down):

Good luck!

After striking out at Wal-Mart last night, I was beginning to lose hope that I would find an xbox any time soon. Today, my luck changed for the better. While calling around to see when stores were expecting a new shipment, I found out that the other Wal-Mart in town either didn't get in their shipment or just didn't start selling it until 7:00 AM this morning. I was able to get the last premium system they had at around 1:00. I also picked up PGR 3.

Now I just need to go back and read up on all of the other 360 threads.

I finally have one thanks to Y2K. We met at an outlet mall; he had to "twist" his wife's arm into letting them go down there. I had a white envelope and he had a non-descript brown box. The exchange was made and all were happy.

We still had 2 hours of driving before getting home, so I had the luxury of staring at that wonderful, white box. I hooked it right up once we got home. I had just enough time before I got sick though. I spent most of the night throwing up. My wife did get to play Kameo though. Hopefully I'll get to play with it more today.

Thanks, Y2K!

Well, we're supposed to get a pretty bad storm tomorrow and my vacation ends so I probably won't be able to make it to Best Buy for their shipment that's supposed to come in for tomorrow. I might hit up Target and Walmart just to see if they have any that for some reason didn't sell yesterday but other than that I'm fresh out of ideas.

I was just talking to a co-worker and her Boyfriend who was buying a 360 game and they started bragging about how the BF and his 2 brothers scored 3 units around the release time. I thought, “Ok, that’s cool. Hey, if they stood in line to get them then more power too 'em.” But then they started bragging about how they sold one for $800 and he offered me a "great deal" on one for $600. Yeah right. For $600 not only would I want the 360, I would also like to fuck his pretty girlfriend(my co-worker) otherwise NO DEAL! .

But seriously, throughout the whole conversation I was thinking how there's a fine line between Capitalism, The Entrepreneurial spirit, and just plain fuckin’ GREED.

I know what you mean. I get really annoyed when I see people (seems like the FW thread is full of them) saying "I just scored 4 units..ebay here i come". I could understand selling one or maybe even 2 but come on, 4 units that's what we in the know call being a dick.

This is what I find funny about all those people who are Ebaying.

Auction ends at $500 for a Premium.
Cost of product is $400.
Tax at time of purchase (5%) is $20
Ebay Listing Fee is $3.60
Ebay Sell Fee is $13.69
PayPal Fee is $22

So, if you sell your 360 on Ebay, and it sells for $500, you only make ~$40. Is all that work really worth it for $40? When they were going for 3 times the price, I would have easily said yes, but for only $40?

I just wish i could find something other than a core pack. One place near me has a couple cores but nobody is able to keep the premiums in stock for more than a minute or two.
