Tough life DS...
Here's a handy chart for hair/face combos...

At work we got 28 copies, and had 28 pre-orders. All of the stores in the area basically got enough to satisfy pre-orders. My manager things we might get one more replenishment shipment, but I don't know about that. In the instructions it says you can move to another Animal Crossing cartridge over the wi-fi, so for now I'm sticking with my one copy. If WhoGirl plays it and loves it, then I'll get her a copy and have her move over.

I finished the Tom stuff, and spent some time picking fruit. Then I designed a Metroid pattern for clothes and things. Took me forever. I used a template from the game guide, which I also picked up today. It's a pretty informative guide, handy to have.

All in all, I'm very pleased with the game so far. I like the graphics a lot, and I also love how there are no load times when you move around from area to area in town. The touchpad controls work better than I thought they would. They actually work better than the normal hand controls.
I loves this game so far. It's my first time with Animal Crossing since I never got it for gamecube. I love fishing, I have been doing that for about an hour now! I also loved the fishing minigames in the Zelda games for the N64. Quick question, where can you find your friend code is this game?
I'm definitely getting the guide as well. However, I renewed my Nintendo Power subscription and get the guide for free. It's only a few bucks extra, so it's definitely worth it.
Really liking it so far. Almost got my first mortgage paid. Any know if there is an easier way to change the item that you are using. Also anyone find a calandar of events or when turnups are for sale, is KK even in this game?
Your friend code you can get from the dog on the right at your gate. He's also the one you talk to about opening your gate and visiting other towns.

The tag mode has me interested, with the whole message in a bottle thing and the seemingly random switching of items.

One of my wife's neighbors was showing off a shirt that they said was made by someone in another town... is this just something the cartridge makes up, or does this stuff get automatically downloaded? I did opt for the automatic downloads from the phone in your house (I guess you'll get messages from Nintendo on your town board, and a cat will randomly visit you?)

Because my wife and I have two cartridges, we've raised a ton of money just by switching fruits back and forth (non-native fruits go for 500 bells). Plus there's a fish that nets 2500, so that's pretty good. My Nook is closing tomorrow to upgrade, and I just paid off my first mortgage. Cool. Almost as good as the old island moneymaking scheme. My wife's neighbors have already sent me inter-town mail, though I'm not sure how to do that.
I'm sure I'll like this game, but my first impressions left me a little disappointed. It would've been nice to have little shovel, fishing pole, etc. icons at the top of the screen next to the arrow to quickly pull them out and put them away as needed. Also, I recognized a lot of the items and shirts from the gamecube version. I was hoping for a bunch of new items. Also, the resolution is pretty crappy. It's hard to make out what most of the shirts and items even are. The "scrolling globe" view is pretty cool, but I miss the structure of the grid. It made it easier to scan each square of the city for fresh fruit and fossils.
Thanks fujishig!

Anyway, I got my first mortgae paid off in one swoop. I guess I caught some fish that were more valuable then I thought!

Also does anybody know where you can get that bug catcher net?
Nook's should have the net after a while... As his store grows, you're more likely to get one because he can stock more stuff.

My wife visited my town, and bought the only shovel Nook had! Apparently, it wasn't "in stock" in her town. Plus, Nook is closed down all day for remodeling, so no shovel for at least another day.

On the plus side, I got another neighbor today. Though they still haven't unpacked their house (all they have are moving boxes).

I see that you can invite other animals from towns you visited to live there if the other town's gates are open... so I can "steal" neighbors from my wife's town? Or is there a way to stop that? I'd hate to lose all my "good" neighbors to people who visit online. Also, is there a way to boot someone out when they're visiting, if they start chopping down trees and stuff?

If it's like the original, the animals can come and go as they please depending on how hospitable your town is, regardless of whether somebody comes to visit. However, there is a chance that when somebody visits that one or more residents move between the towns. To tip the balance in your favor, just put in the effort to make a nice town by adding the right amount of trees, flowers, etc.. It was something like X number of trees per square without any adjacent to each other in the original version. I'm not sure what it'll be in the DS version. If you ask about the environment in the Town Center, it'll give you the general vibe of your town.

I was reading the manual last night, and I think the option you're looking for is in your Start menu whenever you have people over. Something like "time to leave" that kicks everybody out. Haven't seen it myself though.
I know that the animals come and go... but there is a specific option in this game to take animals from other towns. I haven't tried it yet, so I'm not sure if they have to want to come (like you have to butter them up when you visit them) or what.

There doesn't seem to be a way to communicate between players when visiting towns, other than the normal passing letters to each other (there may be something I'm missing). So if someone visits my town and I don't know them that well, I guess I'll have to follow them around to make sure they're not chopping trees up or digging holes in the ground...
Man I'm scared of how addicted I'm going to get. I just got the fishing pole, and I'm already thinking of how fast I can fill up this museum.

I do kind of miss how large the GC town was though. This one seems a little small. However I'm hoping I won't care when I start visiting other towns.

I wouldn't get my hopes too high. Some of them you won't be able to find until next summer. Lots of cash for the repeats, though

Oh I know from the original, but it's just reminding me. It seems a little tougher to fish this time around. They change direction a lot more making it harder for you to get the bait in their line of sight.
Yeah, I did notice that, although it seemed that the fish were more plentiful. It would've been nice if you could tap the river where you want to cast, rather than struggling to get the person facing the right direction before tapping him.

Yes, there does seem to be a lot more, and the tapping feature would have been nice. So I guess we have to wait for rain for the Coelecanth again?

I love how huge the museum is, but what is the Brewster guy for? I'm guessing KK plays there Saturday nights, but does anything happen if you sit in that chair long enough? I have been wanting to explore, and didn't feel like testing the theory.

Hmm, I only went into the bar area once while I was still employed by Tom Nook. I think you may have done what I initially did, sitting in the chair against the lower wall facing the room, but Brewster was referring to the bar stool. When I sat down at the stool, he asked if I wanted to buy some coffee for one or two hundred bells, but I didn't have any at the time since I was still working.

The worst is when you spend a couple of minutes getting into the right position and the "fish" turns out to be a tire, boot, or tin can!
I've got the gate to my town wide open, so come on over and visit! Make sure to bring some of your native fruits so you can trade them for some of my apples. Non-native fruit gets more Bells from Tom Nook, so make sure you plant any apples you get from me.

Here's the list of DVD Talk member Friend Codes if you haven't seen it. This thread has also been designated as the official NWC "lobby." If you want to get online, post in this thread to let us all know when, what game, and any other necessary details.

Has anybody figured out what the Tag Mode is for? After sending away the message in a bottle, I quit out and went to Tag Mode and left the DS for a few hours, but it never connected to anything.

Another question for those who have 2 or more people moved into the house. How does the downstairs of the house work? Do you have to share it or is it a different downstairs for each character?
I'm assuming Tag Mode is like Bark Mode in Nintendogs, but no I haven't really figured it out or used it yet.

Paid off my first loan so I should have a bigger house tomorrow. The game is drawing me in again and the fact I can take it with me should keep me playing for awhile. Already had a visit from Redd today and caught a ton of fish for the museum and for cash. Stringfish is worth 15,000 bell so catching two of those has helped.
And the stringfish are pretty easy to catch too. I got 4 of em already! Just got my first Karp an hour ago, but nook's shop is closed for a whole day. I have to wait a bit to see what it's worth.
Cool I caught a squid in someone else's town.
Can only one person play per city? or is it like the other version where multiple people can have a house in the city and you take turns playing.
