Tried WalMart last night at about 9:15pm but the line was longer than the number of systems they had. Swung buy Best Buy on the way home and saw about 15-20 people standing in line in the rain. Felt kind of bad for them.
Went to KMart just before 7 this morning and there were only 4 other people there! Score! Then the guy who openned the door at 7 said only 3 Kmarts in the state received 360s and the one we were at wasn't one of them.
Rushed over to Costco through morning rush hour traffic (took about 40 minutes) and found a surprisingly short line. And the manager was taking down names and member numbers of the people in line. I was 20 out of 24 bundles!
Only had to wait about 2 hours. Also picked up PDZ for $44 and Call of Duty for $54. The bundle had Kameo which I might try to exchange for Project Gotham Racing.
Still can't believe I was so lucky!
There was a woman just ahead of me in line who got a call from her mother in law, whom she cares for, asking what time it was. The woman (we'd been talking some already) said she was worried that her mother in law might be having a stroke!
Luckily it was just that she'd forgotten her blood pressure medicine and took it when told to so she was feeling better soon after that call.

Good catch on the winning bidder.
He may still get stuck paying, or banned from ebay though, given the explicit statment that it was just the box in the item description.
And your right, amazing so many people would bid several hundred dollars on somethign without reading the item description.

yea these clowns (yea i said it if you buy something that cost $400, for over 3x that your a clown) that buy system for $1k plus make me laugh. Patience...+ systems at release usually buggy or end up being inferior compared to ones a few months later, im waiting until spring unless they show me a game that looks breathtaking...

I didn't realize these were so hard to get. I was shopping for my wife's birthday today and saw three of them in a bookstore. Hastings. I guess I should have got one and then sold it on e-bay.

I got in line at 9:30pm for a Target 8am opening, and was #17 in line. Before the store closed for the night, an employee came out and said 22 premium bundles and 22 core. We asked about tickets, and they said not until the next morning. The 44 systems were probably accounted for around 12:30-1am, but people kept coming. They asked the people towards the front what they knew, and still decided to line up even after counting more than 44 people in front of them
. Finally at 6:30am, the store manager came out and said they'd pass out tickets around 7-7:30. 7:45 came and people in the back were complaining about cutters, even though there weren't any; we policed the situation ourselves rather well. After a speech about the honor code, the manager went down the line, handing out tickets for whichever system we wanted. As expected, all premiums went first, and their "actual" number of units was 40 instead of 44. Many upset people in the back of the line. The manager said when the next shipment comes in, he'll personally stay late the night before and hand out tickets before store closing so people don't wait in line for nothing. Why didn't he think of this earlier?!
So now the Xbox360 sits in my room, waiting until Christmas for me to open it. At least I have the peace of mind to know that I have one for sure. Good luck to those still trying to get one, and happy gaming to those who already have it.
EDIT: What happened to curfew laws?? There were a lot of minors camping out without their parents. Being #17, there were at least 5 minors in front of me whose parents dropped them off, then came back at store opening to pay for the systems. I'm not bothered since I was able to get mine, but the thought had crossed my mind, especially when a few cops drove by every now and then to make sure things were civil.

Myself, a friend and his nephew (who turned us on to Halo 3 years ago cause he got one last launch)were going to wait at walmart as MGR told me they had 48 of them, nephew is in on college break he was gonna go about two get 3 spots for us, but his uncle talked him into waiting until he got off work. I had football practice and coaches meeting until almost 8:30 during which they text me no line so I'm thinking cool. When I get in the Jepp head that way I call them, there back at home playing halo said no ne was in line why wait, rushed on over they had went to electronocs looking after I told them near the layaway. I get pissed called them the messsed up all systems were took, so went home try to watch MNF.
Called a couple other walmarts within an hour of here as no CC or BB close we thought about trying ther one had 8 systems opend at 7. Kept fuming, then decided about 10 I was gonna go about 11:30 and offer to buy someones spot. got tied up for awhile bumped into a girl been talking to in parking lot. We talked and fooled around then it was 5 after 12 when she decided to leave, I then went in walked to the Premium line holding two 100's in my fingers said anyone wanna sell there spot. got a few looks one guy said 225 I said this is best I can do, walmart lady said you can't do that asked why not, guy in line said all I'm gonna do is put it in layaway then on eBay. She said well if you want one that bad I'll look the other way. So I ended standing in line a total of 15 min. (voucher was for # 19 and they were already to 15) paid an extra $200 but didn't wait in line all day.

I'm so angry that I saw the CircuitCity.com sale and didn't act. I had no idea Friday was its debut on that site, so I assumed the page had been there the whole time and were all sold out.

All the local stores around me sold out. I saw a dozen people already in line at Best Buy yesterday around noon. I didn't even bother looking, just heard from a relative. I'll pick one up sooner or later, nothing is a must play for me now except Perfect Dark Zero, although I never played the first one.

It is amazing the stupidity of people though. There were 2 employees that camped out since 1 am. They were nice and greeted others as they arrived telling them what number in line they were. So once the 20th was spoken for, he continued to tell people that there were only 20, no since waiting since they could try elsewhere (even suggested another Sams that does little to no business). So there were a dozen or so people past the 20 mark waiting for an hour in the 40 degree weather...for nothing!
Eventually, the manager handed out business cards with a number on it for the available systems. Wouldn't you know that #20 was exactly where he kept telling them. After the cards were handed out, they finally left.

Great stories, here is mine:
Pre-ordered at Gamestop in August - won't get until after January 2006.
Tried to buy at CircuitCity.com last Friday - got everything in cart, input credit card #, hit submit, and then the site goes down. By the time it recovered all units were sold out.
Against my best judgement, pre-ordered one premium system for $494 shipped after 10% coupon (not tooo bad a deal IMHO) from a reputable seller on eBay. He ended up cancelling the order, but gave full refund.
Last try - which happened unexpectedly - was browsing Amazon.com for christmas shopping. Noticed that it sadi they would have bundles available on 11/22, but no times were listed. Stayed up until about 1 AM, but nothing. Gave up and wnt to bed. Got to work the next day and checked. Surprisingly, bundles were in stock, but didn't come cheap. Had one in my cart and pondered whether to get it (didn't know my eBay order was cancelled yet). Must have been about 1 minute later, hit submit and it says item not available. Refreshed page and its back again! Jumped on it w/o hesitation. Shipped yesterday and should arrive today or Friday. Now, just have to sell the games I'm not interested in.
There you have it!

I was constantly checking this forum, xbox.com and teamxbox and very few people got one from cc.com and there were many wasted hours spent trying.

Here's my saga:
Monday morning at 7:15 I stopped by the 24 hour Walmart in Amherst NH. 6 kids already in line. The say they have 48 systems, 24 of each and will be giving out tickets at 10PM to those in line.
I head to work, but my next door neighbor is "working from home" so he checks in periodically. Noontime there's about a dozen people, by 3:00 the have about 25. At 4:00 he calls and they tell him "they've given out all 40 tickets and the people that have them went home until midnight." What happened to the other 8 I dunno.
He really wants one for Thanksgiving so he wanted to camp out at Target. I told him that I'd have no problem doing that 20 years ago but I'm 45 and there is no way I'm sleeping outside of a Target to buy a video game system. He has a bit to drink and is persitent so we drive over there about 9:30. There are about a dozen people scattered in cars because they won't let them queue up until after they close at 11:00. I took him out for a couple more drinks and talked him out of camping out.
I promise myself I'm not gonna do anything crazy, just try to pick one up if I get lucky. I went to BJs on the way to work, didn't even leave early and stopped for coffee on the way (with a free 60 day membership card in my pocket).
There are about 9 people out front at 7:50 AM. “Congrats, you’ll be the last one. They gave out tickets already and have 2 left-you and the lady in front of you. All premiums”
2 minutes later a worker comes out and says “sorry, only 1 left”.
The friggin stop for coffee cost me a premium system for $400!
After that I swung by ToysrUs, Sears and Target (all of these places are within about 1 mile). Then I stopped by Costco there were about 25 people in line for 45 systems (again all premium). But you had to be a member (which I wasn’t) and you had to wait until 10:00, and I had a staff meeting at work that was really important for a change.
I called Rob my next door neighbor and told him to sign up online and get down there asap (about 20 minutes away) if he wanted one. He signs up and goes down there and is right about 45th in line. They open the doors and start handing out tickets, but they are refusing people who aren’t members. He tells them he signed up online.
“Did you print it out?”
“Doh!”
“Sorry”
But he argues and get inside to the service desk. They look it up and can’t find anything because it takes a day or so to get a membership number. He says he’ll sign up again. Okay, but we only take Amex or cash. Nope, he doesn’t have an Amex and only has $35 in cash. The line is getting pissy at this point. He bums $10 off someone and gets a second membership.
“But now how are you going to pay for the system?”
“Doh!”
He gets an instant Costco Amex application and is approved. He walks out with a new premium system. Picks up Madden, PGR and Call of Duty 2 (although the big dummy got the XBox version, not the 360 of CoD2) at Target.
Whew! Good to get that off my chest.
PGR and Madden were beautiful on his 52-ish" TV. The cockpit view of PRG that big makes it really feel like you're driving. I'm not really sure how great it will look on something much smaller though. Can't wait to see it on the 55".

So what's with all these reports of changing stock numbers? I'm sure the stores all opened the pallets and knew what they had in stock... was it just employees taking the extra systems? Isn't there store policy against this?
