I'm just planning on waiting a year so there will be more games available and the price will drop on the console some. I just can't justify paying $699 on the x-box 360 bundle that I wouldn't mind having.

My current Xbox sits there looking at me asking why its collecting dust.
Only games that got me going on my current Xbox were Panzer Dragoon and Otogi. The rest of the games were so-so.
On the Xbox360, the only game that i consider playing is PGR3 but i won't fork out $400 plus tax to play one game!!
Games, we need exclusive and good games on the 360!!!!

Ummm is this the "Not Getting Any" thread?
Actually, I'm a big Xbox guy and I'm waiting this launch out for several reasons.
1: Just got my second Xbox with BB's replacement plan, which I re-upped. I figure I can wait a while, then cash in my $150 in chips for a 360 a year or two down the road to make it a softer blow and also be able to pick up some budget titles at that time.
2: Recently got a sweet new computer and a mid-level graphic card. Should be able to play several of the launch games at my computer already (and CoD2 will be $24.99....umm... somewhere very close sometime very soon).
3: Still have tons of games to get to on the current systems.
4: Just got a PSP and can't be splurging like crazy.
but most importantly,
5: I have more xbox games than PS2 games, but that's because I go with the better hardware and HD support for multi-platform games. The exclusives for the xbox, with the exceptions of the Halo games and KOTOR have been skip-able at best, IMO. That hurts me to say, really, but there hasn't been much else exclusive that I've loved. When I compare that to the PS2, there were many exclusives that blew me away (R&C series, Jak series, God of War, Dark Cloud 2, Kingdom Hearts, Shadow of the Colossus and the semi-exclusive GTA series). If the PS3 has better (or even equal) hardware capabilities, more franchises I like or love and Blue-Ray playback, I think I'd prefer it even at a (slightly) higher price. I've really thought this through and that's the way I feel. I could easily be wrong, but part of me feels no matter how impressive the 360 looks, it might be a sorta 2.5 generation console the way the Dreamcast was a 1.5. We'll see; I could always change my mind...

Aside from the certain Ninja Gaiden sequel, there aren't any announced exclusives for the 360 that I'm even interested in playing. Also, I have no use for the convergence-type functions.

I'm really impressed with the 360 hardware and with the media center and the way they have perfected Xbox Live. My problem is cost. Its just too expensive for the number of games I would actually play on it. I'm not a fan of FPS games and that is still going to be the bread and butter of the 360. The reason I would get one would be sports games, but the reviews of the launch sports titles are terrible.
The 360 is one I will look for again next year. When they finally have a price drop and the sports games catch up to the hardware I might finally want one.

I assume I'll do like I did with the orginal Xbox ... wait to see if there are any games that I really, really want to play, then buy it the day that the price drops. I'm hoping for some promotional/pricing blitz with the PS3 release ... or is that just the day that Halo comes out?

There is nothing on the xbox 360 I want to play so I wont be getting one until that changes. Why should I care if the games look the best if I don't want to play them. Its same reason I don't have a PSP. Im into rpgs, strategy, and fightying games. Xbox is more action, sports, and shooter games. This doesn't look like it will be changing for the most part.

I'll hold off for a little while. I'll probably end up getting all three like I did this generation, but none right away. Plus I still have some games (as far back as the PS1) that I haven't played yet.

I bought a GameCube at launch... and still have quite the library of games that are still unplayed/unfinished. It's gonna take me another few years to get through those.
I'm thinking of getting a PS2 (Slim) to play the new DW VIII and the Jak and Ratchet series... and that Katamari game.
The X-Box was never a need for me, nor were any of the games.

It's a combo of money and too many games I sitll need to play this generation. I have the money to buy an xbox, but spending $400 on one and another $50-$60 on games for the next six months until they start dropping in price just doesn't make sense to me. I bought all my games this gen for $20 or less (with a few exceptions) and I have a ton of them, probably over 100 unplayed/unfinished. I will wait until the games and system start dropping in price or I see something I must play now. Nothing seems "revolutionary" to me, I am sure the games are good if not great, but nothing that is so different from this gen that I must have it now.
Also many of the 360 games will be available for the PC, and I have a pretty nice computer that can play all the recent games. Any FPS games I like playing with the mouse and keyboard anyways.

.anyway I'm in the (5) too much to play current gen right now, (3) no games interest me enough to spend extra money, (1) not enough $$$$$$, and (2) no HD. I'm in no hurry, I'm having a blast with Dragon Quest VIII, and if it's really the 80 hours they say it is, I'm in no hurry to buy something that will just sit there. I'm surprised how many people on here aren't getting one at launch, it seemed like everyone was sold on it for the HD, etc.

My projector is a 4:3 800x600 so HD is good for me (I can take advantage of 720p in 4:3...being scaled down to 800x600 is better than 480p scaled up).
I played Kameo at Walmart. Ehh. Good graphics, but I'm not that impressed. Not $400 good. Hell I barely bought into the PS2, and that was only because my wife bullied me into it, and we used it for a DVD player back when we were just a couple of broke college students living together. And she bullied me into the used Gamecube about 6 months later for $150.
Besides, so far, Microsoft has shown to me a lack of change. Some racing games, some sports games, some FPS games and a few platformers. The same sort of concentration that caused be to not buy an Xbox until January of this year.
The only RPG on the near horizon is Oblivion, which I'm not a big fan of the series (admittedly the last one I played a lot of was Daggerfall).
I'm not buying the PS3 for $400 either. I have such a backlog of games, I'm just going to stick with the Revolution until the other 2 consoles come down to a reasonable price. There's no killer must-haves for me until some quality Japanese RPGs or strategy games of some sort show up... maybe Devil May Cry 4. At least the Revolution will have some unique games with the controller, oldschool downloads (I don't have an n64 any more), etc.
Racing games and FPS games may be the big console thing these days, but not everyone is all about them. I have Quake 4 and UT2004 if I want to play a FPS game, on a superior mouse/keyboard setup. I'm not seeing any unique games or must-have typical games from the Microsoft camp.
P.S. a Good PC video card runs you about $200-$250, not $400. A 6800-line or am X850-line will do the job fine. And my PC also plays Civilization 4 and the few RTS games I enjoy, like Battle For Middle Earth and CNC Generals ZH - something that doesn't exist on consoles at this point

The x-box had some decent exclusives, but a lot of people justified it by having the best graphics for multi-consoles games, X-box live, etc.
Sony doesn't really need much more to entice people other than keeping the exclusive library on par with what we got with the PS1 and PS2.

I almost always buy systems on launch day. I'm skipping this one because I'm behind on playing other games and systems.
I don't think any of you should skip the launch because you think the system will fail. I bought a dreamcast and didn't regret it. It had great games at the time. I'm the type of person who buys a system for one game. If N64 only had Mario 64 it would have been worth the purchase. Not to mention there is no chance xbox 360 will fail. Microsoft owns online gaming and that won't change.

Interesting thread..
Primarily I can't see paying $500-$600 to play games that appear to be minor graphical updates of stuff already over-flooding the market. Mind you I do like a good FPS or racing game but there's a lot of them out there and those are genres that I'm willing to take the $20 year-old model over the $50 (or $60 in this case) brand new one. Unless something really amazing comes out, I'm sitting on the fence for both the Xbox 360 and PS3 for a year or two, much like I did for all three consoles on the current generation.
However, Blue Dragon is the one game that has my interests piqued for a 360 at the moment.. and with how much I'm enjoying Dragon Quest VIII right now my interests in it are doubly vested. The names Sakaguchi and Toriyama probably don't mean a lot here but I'm damn sure the name Chrono Trigger DOES.. and I'm so damn excited to see what these guys are working on.
