Has anyone tried running World Series Baseball 2k3 on their 360? It's on the list but it doesn't work for me.

I guess Microsoft found out that the one person who owns a copy of this isn't getting a 360.

"Xbox.com: By what date do you plan to have all original Xbox games backward compatible?

Todd: We're continuing to work hard to certify as many original Xbox games to work on Xbox 360 as possible; we'll be adding to the list regularly.

Xbox.com: What criteria do you use in choosing which Xbox games will be backward compatible on Xbox 360? How far back into the Xbox game library are you going to go?

Todd: When we say Xbox library, we mean the entire Xbox library. This ranges all the way from our launch in 2001 up to games that haven't even shipped yet. As we've said before, we prioritized the top-selling titles and those games with a large Xbox Live following for launch, and we're going deeper into the portfolio every day."
Prioritizing top-selling titles, but the Splinter Cell games aren't on the list? Kind of kills his credibility when top-selling games aren't on the list, but a bunch of lesser games are on it.

Sounds like marketing BS to me. I highly doubt that there will be a time when every XBox game works on the 360.

I don't think it's necessarily BS... and I'm sure they are trying to prioritize the major sellers. They'd love to have Splinter Cell work, but there are probably some issues with the emulation. At the same time, it's good that they're not solely focusing on the major sellers. Some of the ones that are already compatible that are secondary titles were probably either really easy to emulate or shared some kind of engine with other titles that were on the list.

I do think they're trying hard... I just wish they'd have planned at least for all new games (and games that came out maybe since October or so) to be compatible. As it is, if I traded in my Xbox and just bought the new Prince of Persia game this week, I'd be out of luck.

Once they get Panzer Dragoon and the first Buffy game to work i can feel good about selling my first Xbox. It's definitely in their best interest to get everything working, look how long Sony made money on PS1 games.

I played DOA3 and Ninja Gaiden on the 360 and they both don't run to well. There they slowdowns and in DOA3 the videos stutters. Halo 1 runs fine.

I played Half-Life 2 finally and I did not enjoy it on my 360. It seemed to run a bit slow, or maybe it was just me. I personally was a bit bored by the game. That is why it's in the trade forum noww

NOOOOO!!!! That really sucks, I just got that a week before the 360 came out and I was going to start it this weekend.

I've only played Deathrow so far from the BC list. It wasn't bad but there were noticeable stutters, I couldn't tell if it was my old game or a system glitch.

I still can't find ANYTHING about any upcoming future BC titles, anybody else dug anything up?

Is there a list of Xbox games that run exactly like they are supposed to on the 360?

From what I've seen and heard, it seems like the stuttering is one of the major glitches across the board. I can't imagine having to re-patch the patch for these BC games, so could we be stuck with them? The more I think about it, I can't think of a single game that anyone I know or on this board has mentioned without issue except for Halo 1 and 2. I'm curious to hear if MS has an opinion on how the BC list is functioning against their expectations.

Even people on this board have mentioned feeling "held back" or "slowed down" while playing Halo 2, so I wouldn't even say that was a total sucess. I am just wondering how many of these games are playable the way they were originally intended to be played.

Yeah, it seems most games are slowed down. Halo 2 did seem ok though....Half-Life 2 is another story.

Not a BIG deal to me, sicne I got rid of most of my other games....I enjoy my 360 games a LOT more.

I played Kill Switch and couldn't save a game in progress.

I figure I'll limit the Xbox games I'll play on 360. Don't want to add wear and tear to an expensive machine that may cause it to breakdown earlier. I'll stick with mostly 360 games, n keep playing older games in the Old Xbox.

Pardon perhaps a dumb question, I am ridiculously uneducated on stuff like patches or emulators and anything computer hardware related. But are you saying there is additional wear and tear on the 360 by playing BC Xbox games on the 360 or just the fact that playing any game on the 360 is wear and tear?

The second part. Playing any game on a 360 will cause wear and tear. He is saying he doesn't want to add to that when he can just play his Xbox games on his Xbox and his 360 games on his 360.

I'm going to keep a spreadsheet of the changing list. Along with those mentioned, I noticed...

Freedom Fighters, Grabbed by Ghoulies, Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, Legend of Wrestling, Rugby 2005, Ghost Recon 2

are on the original list but now have been removed.

The only thing added is the Halo 2 MP pack.

I'll keep checking for differences as they happen.

This "Wear and Tear" stuff is a bit misleading. Aside from the disc spinning, there's not really many mechanical parts that the 360 has. It's not like using one car instead of splitting your time between two.

If anyone would like to start a list of Xbox compatibility games and ratings, or has a link to one, I'll gladly contribute.

Not to get too technical, but there are plenty more moving parts in that thing besides the DVD drive. All Xbox games must access a hard drive - which have a MTF based on rotations. The fans within the system (and I think someone mentioned the power supply has fans too?) also have a MTF for the engines based on rotations. Will you ever hit that MTF? Probably not. But it does cause extra wear on the system.

I think I'll just steal what you guys said and try to sound smart with some of my other friends . The only thing that came to my mind was that I didn't know if the 'patch' (or whatever needs to be d/l to the 360 to run the BC games) would require more memory or processing power to run and then over a LONG period of time possibly wind the system down quicker. I assumed it didn't since the file is so small, but I have no idea.

What is MTF? Or are you meaning to say MTBF ?

Does anybody know if it's official that Sid Meier's Pirates! is no longer BC?

Mean Time to Failure.

Also regarded at MTTF.

Or sometimes they say MTBF (Mean Time Before Failure or Mean Time Between Failure).

I have tried Halo 2 on the 360 and it runs the same, I had no slow downs on the single player or on LIVE. It does look a little better in 720p.

Now I have Half Life 2 and played it on the 360, but have nothing to compare it to as I didn't play it on Xbox. The reviews of the game state it as having some issues. The loading can get old as it happens quite a bit, but it is rather short. I also had to play Half Life 2 in 480p to have it fit my screen for some reason. I only tried 720p, but did not try 1080i.
