I'm still playing this game trying to improve my scores, but it's not really getting there. I'm trying for all 5 stars on hard, but I can only do it up until Take Me Out. I haven't been able to really improve any of my expert ratings either.

The other night I was playing. I had 43 5 stars on Hard, 31 5 stars on expert.

I was playing a song on medium that I had already 5 starred to determine exactly what score was needed for 5 stars so that my wife would know what she needed to get. I finished the song, hit continue and then apparently turned off the game while it was loading the song list. My wife came in later, turned on the game and apparently our save game was corrupted. It's times like these when I really hate consoles and their lack of HDs. I'm not even sure I want to even retry anymore after all the hours I poured into it.

Pretty dang depressed about the whole thing.

It sucks, but the game does tell you not to turn off the system while it's saving, which it does every time after you get a new high score (assuming you had autosave turned on).

Even if it had an hard drive, wouldn't the save be corrupted if you turned it of while it was saving?

I ordered from newegg way back when and I never got it. The game disappeared from their web site too. I contacted customer service and they said they didn't even have the order in their system but that it was sold out anyway. Sorry for any inconveniece and all that. No problem. No harm, no foul, I picked it up at Best Buy before X-mas.

Don't ya' know I get an email saying that newegg has shipped the order and charged my cc.

I do have autosave turned on, and it wasn't saving as I was about 50k below my high score for the song and was playing on career mode. I had just finished the song, got my score, hit continue and then powered off the PS2, so I assume it was reading the card to get my list of high scores and that's what corrupted it.

Even if it had an hard drive, wouldn't the save be corrupted if you turned it of while it was saving?
Saving/loading would take a lot less time so less chance of corruption, and as I said, it shouldn't have been saving anything as I didn't have a new high score.

Just damn depressing

seeing my 'game only' ebay auction close at $36 last week made picking up a second one just for the guitar completely worth it!

I got this for Valentine's Day(awesome girlfriend x10)

Easy was, well, easy. Medium is kicking my ass. The notes are moving faster and faster. I'm sure it'll be like DDR, where the more I play, the better I get, but jeez, what a big jump.

The other night, my wife said she wanted to see me fail a song. So I tried ThunderKiss 65 on expert. It kicked my ass. I have a lot of practicing to do still. I'm making my way through hard right now, but the guitar solos are extremely difficult with all of the hammer ons and pull offs.

I never would have thought that a song by Boston would be my favorite to play on guitar hero.

I just picked this up late last night, and the girlfriend and I were up for hours playing it. So far I have everything unlocked in the normal difficulty. I did a few in hard and tried to bump up to expert and I couldnt get passed 62% or so in the megadeath son. This is a really fun game though, I wish I would have bought it earlier.

Well, it certainly looks like Guitar Hero was enough of a success to warrant some future installments...

All-around awesome news. Not only do we get a full sequel, but also single-genre expansions, all in the next year and a half.

Great news, indeed! This game has yet to leave the PS2, ever since I got it in mid December.

If they release them for 20 bucks each, they'll fly.

I think he meant the sequels (no guitar, just the game), $20 seems fair considering the engine is made, and all they have to do is get a few bands to cover the songs.

$30 seems more likely though

New interview with John Tam (from RedOctane) about GH2 over at IGN....

The hightlights:
- New multiplayer mode where one player plays the lead guitar part, with the other handling rythm/bass/etc.
- Each player can select a different difficulty in multiplayer.
- Practice mode where you'll be able to loop a particular section of a song. No mention if you'll be able to slow it down, though.
- They're aiming to have 40 licensed songs, up from 30 in the original.
- The indie songs may be from more than just the in-house bands. They'll also be running the Be A Guitar Hero contest again.
- They've been talking with some of the artists of the new licensed songs, and there have been a few mentions of using the master tracks from the songs, so there may be a few less covers this time around.

Holy shit - that's nine kinds of awesome. GH is the only reason I still have a PS2. I even picked up a second guitar the other day. The new multiplayer sounds awesome, especially different difficulties for each player and lead/bass/rhythm stuff.

I hope it comes with a different guitar. Like a flying V or something. It would be awsome if each sequel came with it's own different guitar.
